Macca’s Bye Planner 2019 – Rd7

Written by Schwarzwalder on May 2 2019

Howdy all! – IT’S CULLING SEASON!! … or is it?? Too soon to lose some of those rookies, or are you keen to chase premos already?

Either way, planning for the byes is essential and to enable your deliberations, the latest version of the bye planner is provided.

Two versions of the planner are supplied. Choose your “Gun Qualifier” based on Price (eg to be counted as a Gun defender, your value is over $450K) or on Average (defender = 90+) and so on … it’s up to you which one you choose!!

Qualifiers currently set to:

Def = $450,000 or 90+

Mid = $520,000 or 105+

Ruc = $480,000 or 95+

Fwd = $450,000 or 90+

Make sure you nominate any players in your squad that you do not believe will play in any rounds, including the byes, to get a more accurate total of available numbers (think Bines!). – SEE COLUMN I ON THE “PLANNER TAB”

For ROUND 7 only (this week) – (cash calculator on PLANNER TAB)

You should begin by loading your current team at the end of round 6, before any trades, in Column B of PLANNER TAB

in cell J46 enter your CURRENT team value (should be same as value showing in cell J44)

in cell J47 enter your available cash in the bank

Go Back and make your planned trades of players in COLUMN B

Check cell J49 to determine if you have sufficient cash to make those trades – POP UP MESSAGES WILL APPEAR AND THE CELL IN J49 WILL CHANGE COLOUR IF GOOD OR BAD

If you’ve been around the site for the last few years, you should all be familiar by now with the planner – the key tabs are the “PLANNER” AND “PLAYER DATA” tabs. These let you plan your team / trades (Planner) and provide some extra info on player performances across the current and last few years.

I’ve also added extra tabs this year for your ease of researching: note that tabs are now included listing all players in each position (D, M, R and F) and also all rookies listed on their own tab – filters included on each tab.

PLANNER TAB

Load your current team at the end of round 6 in each position in each of the cells in Column B (choose from the drop-down list in each cell, by alpha order on surname)

Check columns J-O for the key stats at end of round 6.

Make sure you load your current team value and available cash in cells J46 and J47

Now go back to column B and choose which players you want to trade out and in

Check cell J49 to make sure you can afford the trades

For the Bye Impacts:

check your possible players (Columns Q to U & rows 12, 25,30 & 40) and “Guns” (rows 13, 26, 31 & 41) for each of the bye rounds

Check total possible numbers in rows 42 and 43 and watch for the cells colour change depending on numbers!

Check also the warning box in rows 50-54, Columns R-U – this lets you know to be careful with your bye numbers in total – you can’t say you have 18 in a round if 10 are in the Mids – only 8 can play!

PLAYER DATA TAB

This is a key tab with the data of all players. Filters are included on each column to allow you to search on each column, like position or club, averages, BE and so on

Round 6 data now included (columns R-W) and you want negative BE’s & Total points / averages!  – is your player improving?

Rookies are shaded in yellow.

DON’T DELETE OR ALTER ANY OF THE DATA ON ANY OF THE TABS AS IT IS USED TO MAKE THE WHOLE FILE WORK!!

So, get to it! Leave a comment on the thread as well for any thoughts or ideas and discussions – we love those! I haven’t had a chance to alter the formulae to allow you to select your own values for determining guns – before the byes hopefully!

HINTuse the planner to make all your team changes BEFORE playing on the actual SC site!! Saves inadvertent locking in your changes when not ready once round has commenced and the last-minute players not listed!! Trades are gold remember!

The bye planner will continue to work each week showing how many players you have available over each of the bye rounds, though averages and player values etc will only be updated when I get a chance to upload current data.

Happy Bye Planning all and good luck for the rest of the year!!

    1. thanks mate! it’s really good to use for forward planning and also if not quite sure at the start of a round!! Make the moves on the planner first before trading players in and out on the actual SC site!! – saves inadvertent lock outs after game 1!!

  2. Awesome tool here! Question though, what is the optimal structure for byes? Like how many guns/players playing should you aim to have weeks 12/13/14?

    1. Hi Mike – depends on if playing overall (OA) or for leagues – for leagues you want to hold trades and have enough at the end of the year, and win enough matches to qualify for league finals …

      At a minimum you should have 18 players each round – it may depend on your selections, injuries, and rookies named / available. You should also watch / be aware of some teams give some of their stars an extra week off to ‘recharge’ … so aim to try and have 20 -22 for the rounds where possible … it’s also good to have rookies in later bye rounds that can be used in the early rounds and then traded before the last round to a premo that has already played the first bye round …

      That said, numbers of guns for each bye round is purely up to who you have selected initially, who is the best performing ones coming up to the byes and who you can afford to get in … I guess, ideally, if you can get 10 each bye round, then you are going well … it may prove harder though, as some of the best guns on lines, are all on byes in certain weeks – eg if you think the def guns include Whitfield Williams, laird, Smith (newman?) – then they all have byes in R14 … not ideal!
      R13 – is not looking particularly great, depending on who you have, as the best forwards are currently on their byes as are the two gun rucks and some pretty handy mids!
      For me, depending on who you have already and cash available, I would be looking at bringing in guys like Sicily, Merrett, Fyfe, Macrae etc after their round 12 bye – as long as they are also not rested!!

      Good luck!

  3. When putting in proposed trades it doesn’t take into account your left over/available salary.

    Am I missing something here

    Great work though gonna be very hand in coming weeks

  5. Just wondering what you guys think of not worrying about not using trades to worry about getting players on field for the by rounds and just copping a couple of loses in my league. I’m pretty close to top of my league already. Hope that makes sense

    1. Hi Winks 7
      If you are sitting comfortably in your leagues not a bad idea.
      It also depends if you are going for overalland whether you will benefit from trading now or during byes and how Many trades you have utilised to date.

      1. Not going for overall just league glory. I have 22 trades left have downgraded a few rookies in the last couple of weeks and am sitting on $480,000 k ready to start upgrading to some more premos

  6. Fantastic Tool Macca
    Hopefully will enable me to be prepared ahead of byes instead of frantic trading just before byes.
    Will still look to fro best value sell high and buy low but will assist with line ball decisions.
    Eg this week I went for Bolton instead of Hayes as he has rd 14 bye + enabled me to keep mid / forward loop .
    Also traded in T Kelly who can switch to mid as less premiums from rd 13 bye in Mids
