Melbourne Cup

Written by Motts on October 31 2011

Americain, Dunaden, Moyenne Corniche, Niwot…… all good horses.

My sneaky roughie is Modun.

Who will you be placing your hard earned on tomorrow?

  1. I like Lucas Cranach, Lee Freedman has this little sparkle in his voice when he speaks about him. Think he might run a big race tomorrow.
For all those trying a small outlay tomorrow try this little bet, take the horse you think will win, Lucas Cranach in my case and then take 10 or many or as little as you like to run second in an exacta.
It costs you as much the number of horses you choose to take. For instance if you took 10 horses to run 2nd you would outlay $10 (a $1 dividend for each combination)
Then you have to sit back and hope that your nag wins and the roughest of your selections run second (to maximise winnings).
    Good luck…

  2. The more I read about this race, the harder this race gets to pick a winner. There are a few that I like, including Americain, Dunaden, Jukebox Jury (actually beat Americain, Dunaden, and Manighar in a 3000m race this year in France) and also At First Sight and Niwot.

Still not sure who I’ll be taking, but I’ll probably be including Unusual Suspect in all my bets. Should at least place.

  3. our family bets:
I’ve got money on Jukebox jury for a win
My daughter has Americain for a win
My son has money each way on Manighar
DP money each way on Dunaden

(I put the bets on for them of course)

  4. Only bet during the spring carnival and after many a losing streak (only broke even for the first time last year) I am happy to report that after success at Vic Darby (Trifecta) and Melb Cup (race 7 trifecta, picked Red Cardeux for a place and pulled in the Quaddie for the day) that I am currently in front.
There is however 2 main race days to go and plenty of time to get to break even.

I am looking at a couple of first fours today at Oaks seeing as the Quaddie @ Cup only paid $1800 and FF paid 22k.

R6 will do a Trifecta and group in Mosheen, Dowager Queen and Gliding for 1st. Will add Vittoria and Rahveel into 2nd and 3rd just for a bit of coverage but in a small field I think the 1st 3 will be too strong

R8 will be First Command, Perturbo, Master Harry, Cascabel and Grand Duels in no particular order but will put the last two in as 2nd – 4th only.

R9 will be Cosmic Causeway, Did We Win, Bianmick for 1st then add Sense of Sun and Belietto for the rest. Bianmick is at $26 but has performed very well over this diastance, at this track and in the wet so it may suprise.

Good luck to any others who are on the punt today.
