Get them in!
Players your team needs
Plenty of options for us coaches looking to add the final pieces to our teams this week starting with the ever-reliable Tom Stewart down back. Often overlooked as he fails to rack up the huge eye-catching scores, but his consistency can be depended on for the remainder of the season. James Sicily will be a popular choice this week coming off his 141 points last week as Clarko finally put him back in defence. Just outside the top 10 defenders, he is likely to finish top 6 and at $437,700 with a BE of 36 – now is the time to scoop him up. If you’re after a POD down back, Christian Salem is in great touch and is in only 4.4% of teams while Lachie Weller has been consistent this season and is only in 1.3% of teams.
I just don’t think adding a mid-pricer into the midfield is the right move with the numerous premium mids in great form. Dylan Shiel is in great form but has been rather inconsistent this season and isn’t a proven SC premo. Isaac Heeney has ignited his season and coaches who held him can breathe a sigh of relief, but coaches who are yet to jump can count their lucky stars as he is primed for selection this week. Will be the last time he will be under $500k and with a 3-round average of over 113 – just pick him. Now.
- James Sicily (Def; $437,700; and 22.8%)
- Isaac Heeney (Fwd/Mid; $496,400; and 37.8%)
- Tom Stewart (Def; $486,400; and 15.0%)

If you have them, keep them.
At this stage of the season, these players are looking to be held as a D6/M8/F6 option, especially for those who are running short of trades and have rookies on the field. Players including Darcy Parish, Jack Redden, Sydney Stack, Lachie Weller, Michael Hurley, Dylan Shiel, James Harmes, Steele Sidebottom, David Swallow, Angus Brayshaw, Tom Rockliff, Jacob Hopper and Daniel Rich are doing enough to hold through the season.
Chopping Block
Joining ‘Bite the Bullet’ and ‘Chopping Block’ together – a lot of tough calls.
Last year’s top 6 forward and #1 key position forward, Tom Hawkins, is falling rapidly. Averaging only 49.0 over his last 3 games he must be traded right now. Likewise, Heath Shaw and Wayne Milera down back can’t be trusted to see the season out, and before their price drops further, trade them now for a secure premium keeper.
Good luck coaches and let me know your thoughts.

Come on Hot Sauce, you’re hiding the gooduns from us. 😉 What about Simpkin and Westhoff?!
Simpkin (fwd)
$388,400
0% ownership – he’s currently in only 813 teams!!!!!!!!!
BE -1
Playing pure midfield now and getting heaps of the pill. Has a wonderful side step, good pace, great vision and can use the ball. Back-to-back tons and 4 in the last 9 games. Add in 2 90s in that period and he’s impeccable value as a slightly ballsy F6 or an astute F7 if you’ve gor the trades.
Westhoff (fwd/ruck)
$406,600
7% ownership
BE 26
We know Westhoff and we know he’s in Hinkley’s September plans as a Mr Fixit for the Power. His SC numbers weren’t too bad in the two weeks before getting dropped (80 and 90) but he came back and went ka-chow in the Showdown scoring 125. It’s his DPP status that’s super appealing though at this stage of the season.
Agree Simpkin appealing if you have trades and looking for an F7. I need to go and watch a few recent North replays tbh if I am to bite the bullet…
Likewise with Westhoff if you have the trades and at full premo on other lines. However teams also looking to bring in Whitfield for example in a week or two may have to give it a miss due to affordability unless they can free up some cashola.
Gresham is my problem child but with Bines at r3, if Gawn doesn’t come up, it may have to be Gresham to hoff with chol f7 already.
I agree RB. I’ll re-post what I wrote in the Rookie REview thread this morning …
On a positive note, and for those who like a risk AND only have few trades left, there are a couple of non-rookie options who should serve you well since their new coaches have been employed and their roles have consequently changed significantly.
They are:
Jy SIMPKIN, NTH, FWD, $388 400
Once considered a possible breakout contender, now playing midfield, he has a 2Rd ave. of 115.5 and a BE of -1
Jack SILVAGNI, CAR, DEF/FWD, $279 400
Scored 60pts in the second half against FRE after being put on Fyfe and 109 last week playing a run with role in the midfield against the Dees. He also has a negative BE: -16
Neither are options for the faint-hearted, but could be very shrewd moves for those who have nothing to lose should they retain these new roles for the run home
Given I’ve nothing to lose at this point of the season (apart from maybe an LoeC spot for next year) I’m very tempted to get Silvagni this week (for Hore) and ignore Sicily. Don’t need another FWD unfortunately or I’d be strongly considering SIMPKIN too.
If JKelly is OUT this week, I will do it AND trade Jelly to a decent MID premo. That’ll leave me enough money to do two upgrades next week or the week after, be full premo (plus two spares) and have two trades left.
#shitorbust
Why do you tempted me so?!?!?!
I only have 4 trades left… *covers my eyes*
#lovethehashtag
The Silvagni-Gardner swing is an interesting one. If Jack was $50K cheaper, I might look seriously at it…loan, anyone?
I’m seriously considering
bringing in Silvagni.
One I have no bench cover down
back. with Naish and Gardner.
It would provide me with
Fwd/ Def swing with Gardner.
Logue is at D6 at the moment .
To do this I would have to go
D Clarke > Silvagni via Setterfield
Which would open a Fwd/ Mid
Swing. It would leave me 6 trades
40k and Logue as my last rookie
On the field.
Is this a good plan or Crazy talk?
what do you think Chillo and
All saints?
Hope your right AS. I just went Jelly to Simpkin via TKelly DPP. This left me enough cash to upgrade Houli to Stewart and enough leftover to go Logue to Laird or Whitfield in a couple of weeks. This will either make or break me……M.
Great work all year with the MidPricers, Hot Sauce!
