Mid-Pricers Review – Round 4

Get Them In!

Players your team needs

These Mid-Price gems are becoming easier to spot now that they are becoming increasingly difficult to fit into your side, unless of course you’re willing to trade down from a premo (which is never the recommendation). The likes of Tom LiberatoreJack Bowes and Jacob Hopper are certainly great choices to bring in, but they have increased $152k, $95k and $47k respectively. You now must consider if they are going to be keepers, if yes – bring them in.

Other midfielders to get in are Tom Rockliff (I’ll regret this), Ricky HendersonTim Taranto and Dylan Shiel while down back also has plenty of options for us. Christian SalemWayne Milera and Nic Newman did everything to further solidify their names as candidates to get into your team with solid games. Meanwhile a few others to put their hands up this week have been Brad SheppardDane Rampe and Alex Witherden.

Rowan Marshall has been unbelievable in his three games this season averaging 114.7 with a low of 111 – elite numbers! Jeremy Cameron and Caleb Daniel didn’t do anything wrong on the weekend scoring 92 and 93 respectively but it was Saints gun Jack Billings who stood out and is looking like a realistic top 6 forward option with an excellent 126 against the Hawks on Sunday. If Jordan DeGoey continues his form and could creep into the midfield a little more then the spotlight will well and truly be shining on the Pies rising superstar.

  1. Tom Liberatore (Mid; $379,600; and 44.2% ownership)
  2. Jack Billings (Fwd; $473,100; and 5.9%)
  3. Tom Rockliff (Mid; $447,500; and 27.8%)

Pass Mark

If you have them, keep them.

Those who were left feeling cheated at Rocky’s injury impacted 36 in round 3 were rewarded with a huge 140 from the Power mid, who is looking more and more like a must-have this season.

Popular defenders Brodie Smith and Ryan Burton returned to form with 104 and 106 respectively and continue to look like solid mid-price options down back. Both have had their moments in the first four rounds but are likely to continue to rise in output and value.

Despite below average games from Daniel RichZac JonesJamie Macmillan and Zac Williams, they all continue to provide coaches with solid output and value for money and proving their coaches right who had them in from round 1.

Midfielders Brad Ebert and Harry Cunningham have catapulted themselves into consideration with big scores on the weekend lifting their averages to 101.3 and 96.3 respectively. Both players are currently in less than 500 teams and could be the epitome of POD, but are extremely risky at this stage. Brayden Fiorini and Luke Shuey continue to perform while despite below average games from popular mids Dom Sheed and Brad Crouch they are still excellent selections. Another to put their hand up is Touk Miller who could see himself in considerably more teams than the current 600 teams as his average has lifted to 95.3.

James Worpel and Jade Gresham continue their solid start to the season and continue to repay their owners faith in them and now Jack Newnes and Rory Lobb join them as potential POD candidates if you have a struggling forward line. Lobb in particular is an interesting POD and DPP ruck/forward solution, especially if he continues to complete the ruck duties for the Dockers.

Chopping Block

If you have them, you face a tough decision.

Midfield warriors Nathan Jones and Jack Viney are performing well below their potential and need to be seriously considered to be traded out. Viney in particular, has been an incredible letdown this season and is close to being added to the list below, maybe he deserves one more game to save his spot in your team.

Both Charlie Cameron and Josh Bruce started the season well but are now languishing with consecutive sub-50 games in the last two weeks. Bruce is still relatively cheap but Cameron, with a breakeven of 123 this week, will be hovering around the $350k mark and a decent stepping stone for those with some cash in the bank.

Bite the Bullet

These players need to be traded. Now.

Brisbane Lions #1 pick from 2017, Cameron Rayner has got to go. His fourth consecutive failed game, and this time a horrendous 19 is confirmation for all of 4,500+ coaches to now trade the young cub out of their teams. If he isn’t traded out now, Rayner in the next week or two will be approximately $100k cheaper than his starting price. He simply has to be let go.

Let me know your thoughts on the players named above and on any players I may have missed.

    1. Cheers Death Adder!

Personally – I would be leaving Zac Williams @ D4. If you want Rocky in I would suggest some other way.

  1. The way Billings is tracking he will be a genuine top 6. If you can trust him, get him in sooner rather than later.

Side note: Yes I have him and may be talking from my hip pocket… Time will tell
