Don Cottagers, one of the best number crunchers we’ve got on this site, hit the stats this morning to bring us some breakdowns on the best midfielders in SC 2013. I loved it so much I’m giving it its own post. Great job, Don.
Will be interesting to see who has come closest to the current ‘best 8? of the midfield-only players which currently (by averages) is:
Ablett, Griffen, Pendlebury, Watson, Dangerfield, Barlow, Swan and K Cornes (how much would it have paid pre-season that he would be averaging 1ppg more than JPK and Jack at this stage of the year?!)
Always interesting as well to see the breakdown of the number of selections of the guns. Currently the ‘fan favourite 8? is:
192k – Ablett
121k – Pendlebury
109k – Swan
98k – Watson
83k – JP Kennedy
80k – Cotchin
74k – Dangerfield
67k – J Selwood
Popular ‘unloveds’ (as midfielders only and top 20 ranked players on average):
2k – Douglas (105ppg – 17th)
3k – Montagna (109ppg – 11th)
5k – O’Keefe (105ppg – 18th)
5k – McVeigh (105 ppg – 19th)
15k – Jack (110ppg – 10th)
18k – K Cornes (111ppg – 8th)
19k – Griffen (127ppg – 2nd)
24k – A Swallow (107ppg – 14th)
28k – Barlow (115ppg – 6th)

(1) minsy, (2) goldy or (3) roughy this week for bicavs?
interesting stuff, good job
i have 6 of the 8 with no swan or cornes, but i have JPK and T mitchell
I have the first 7 of the 8 listed (I have Stevie J instead of Selwood).
Not sure if that is a good or bad thing???
Would like to add Barlow before the SC finals though…
Why does Ryan Griffen get no love?
3 weeks ago, he was owned by less than 2% of all teams in supercoach. His avg over the last 5 weeks has been 146. On the footy show last week, while recapping the Richmond game (when he scored 143). All the commentators said was ‘Griffen played well’. But spent 5min talking bout the Richmond team.
It’s my first year of supercoach.
Is it coz he plays for the Bulldogs? Or did he do something else?
Thanks…
Gotta love quickly popping onto the site and thinking ‘hmm, the things in that top article look familiar!’
One thing that I do at the end of each year is quickly check who the POD guys are. The quality players who don’t get the love that they deserve. Then, after a full pre-season, I almost invariably end up with a pretty vanilla midfield line-up. I have six of the eight ‘fan favourite’ elites.
Having said that, I think that most of them are in there for a reason. Ablett and Pendlebury pick themselves. All of the other six have been seriously under-priced due to a few down games at one time or another.
I have 4 out of the most popular 8 and 1 out of the ‘unloveds’
This may be in the wrong thread but since we are on the subject of midfielders i am wondering how many coaches are in the same position as me, due to injuries haven’t been able to upgrade the whole team, i have been hellbent on building the midfield first but one 1st year player remains without upgrade……Jaeger.
Is anyone like me thinking about leaving him there and saving trades for other upgrades / finals? He just seems to be so reliable…
Interested in opinions if its worth trading Priddis to Griffen or Barlow? Priddis is super consistent scoring around 100 but not capable of the the big 130+ scores.10 trades left.
I have Ablett, Watson & Swan.
I have 6 of the top 8, no swan or danger. Have Griff with one more mid to upgrade, thinking danger/fyfe/barlow.
Interesting write up cheers Don, would love to see more of this type of article on SCT.
Who would select 1st if picking up a premium mid this week:
T/u – Barlow
T/d – Swan
Cheers
sorry wrong area, but how can i can get in sct leagues and cash leagues next season, ranked 215th overall
Love the article….
I have all the favs…. Ablett, Pendles, Swan, Watson, JPK, Selwood, Priddis… maybe the last mid upgrade should be a POD!!
4 out of 8 faves with pendles to come. 1 of the unloveds.
Couple of good value ones still in there – wingard jager and goodes.
For me, there is always bargain midfield rookies. Getting a premo backline is harder imho.
I think I am doing ok there too.
