Now for all you rookies out there, don’t go making any trades this morning. Player values won’t change until after their 3rd round of playing so if you were unhappy with a bloke’s score on the weekend give him at least until the end of R2 before you consign him to the scrap heap.

Score – 2,143 won my two private leagues but lost my 3 SCT leagues inc a close loss to Roo Bloke and a thumping by TeamStillNeedsWork. Both hurt equally as much.
Captain – Gibbs, should’ve listened to Deano and jumped on Cox.
Happy with – Gibbs, Pendles, Cox, Sandi, Burgoyne, Lower, Rioli, Heppell, Krakouer and Goddard
On the block – J Selwood will get a stern talking to today about running at the ball lip first but will probably survive. Dean Bailey will be blasted for making Petterd the sub. How good did he look when he eventually made it onto the field??

Oh and my high performance leagues are ranked: 26, 50, 122 (LoEC) and 193
Mike, depends what you are playing for. If yo uare simply about the leagues then i’d advise no trades til after the Rnd 4-6 non-league block of games (if you can avoid them) and you might be able to pick up some players of value cheaper.
That said though, there are numerous people on this site with delusions of grandeur and hoping of getting somewhere near the pointy end of the overall comp. I’d personally find more satisfaction out of getting top 100 or top 50 than snaring a few cheap bucks from my mates. And, to do well overall you do need an element of crash and burn with your trades.

On the block – Goodes, Riewoldt, Franklin
Giving serious consideration to bringing in – Swan, Bartel
Couldnt believe my eyes when I saw the Dogs on the bottom of the ladder this morning (GC excluded).
I predicted that ruck scores would go up this year with teams not resting rucking on the bench but up fwd – a great example of this was Cox last night who was cramping ’cause of the heat but due to their sub already being enacted he just camped himself in the fwd line.
2 of the top 5 scores were rucks (Cox, Ryder)
4 of the top 13 scores were rucks (Cox, Ryder, Sandi, Hille)
8 ruckmen cracked the ton (Cox, Ryder, Sandi, Hille, Warnock, Mumford, Ottens, McEvoy)
… to anyone who saved money by not selecting two out and out gun ruckmen, well all i can say is that i warned you pre-season that the rucks were more important in SC with the advent of the sub rule.
… i strongly suggest that anyone with some spare cash and crappy ruck stocks reinvests there money in the next fortnight before the price rise

Captain –Swan (who else??)
Happy with – Decided to include Mckernan instead of Otten as Otten was supposedly the sub – paid off handsomely, Lower, Heppell, Tapscott, and Darling and Richardson were very nice off the pine.
On the block – Only real problems were Selwood and Boak, but I’m keeping Selwood and Boak still got an 86 when his team was beaten by 75 points, so can’t ditch him because of that!
Giving serious consideration to bringing in – Bartel’s clutch play impressed me, as did Cotchin
I was nearly 200 points behind before the last game with cox and swallow to play and my opponent had waters. My two turned it on and got me over the line by 30 odd points. Now I never thought I’d say this but I love swallow ‘n’ big cox!!!
The Bombers wanted it more the only shining light was Libba jr, going to be a star within the next 3-4 years.
Score – 2,375 (very happy considering how many Guns? didn’t fire)
Captain – Swann (VERY happy)
Happy with – Gibbs, Bartel, Priddis, Burgoyne, Sandi, Cox, Heppel, Krakouer very happy with Lower
On the block – Boyd (it was a toss of the coin for him and Watson, looks like i lost),
N. Riewoldt (have a feelign that he is not going to live up to this years hype, there are some really good defenders getting around just to stop him),
Goodes, Knights, Grimes and Most of all JOHNCOCK! (cost me a lot of money, to spud it up).
Some usually very consistent scorers suprisingly didn’t fire and cost me a massive score

I’m looking at my team for this week. At this stage, Otten (D), Duigan (D) & Richardson (F) will be dropped from the team to make way for Lower (D), D.Swallow (M) & Petrie (F).
As it stands, I have no place for McKernan, Harris, Irons, Toy or Matera who will have to earn their place in HGL’s team.
Is anybody going to rush their GC players in this week?

Also very unhappy that I had Tapscott and Lower warming the pine… ouch.
On the Block: Despite the awful preformance, it’s time to show some faith in the boys… Although, that didn’t exactly work in the Ashes, did it?

Richmond’s Alex Rance has been offered a four-week suspension by the match review panel. Geelong’s Matthew Scarlett one week.

On the block – No one this round because the people who let me down were my premiums and they will be back at it next week
Bringing In – bit early but maybe Pederson from the roos and liked Curnow as well
Tipping – My tipping was as good as my choice of captain;(
And just on Waite, I love the guy – he’s one of our few big forward options – but when is he going to learn? There was every chance he could’ve got a week for that clumsy, intentional backward kick on McGuane. What does Ratts need to do to get through to him?

Not happy with: Jelwood, all key position forwards, McGlynn (who somehow managed to be 82 at half time and scored 76??)
Bringing in: Swan, goddamit
Would you consider Selwood a possible candidate for Geelong sub this week. Imagine him coming on in the last 1/4. He’d dominate!!!!!
Jump on freo!!! They just won by 2 points against a team that will be bottom 4 who had injuries to 3 players. Geelong by 40
Selwood has to play.

Happy with – Cox, Jobe, Bartell, Lower, Heppell, Cyril, Tappy and Pederson, Darling on the pine.
On the block – Nil (can’t be too greedy) but not happy with McGlynn’s score – was expecting around 110 but it seems ROK stole alot of points from him in the last Q. Will forgive Duffman as I think the structure without Silvagni forced him to play deep back.
Giving serious consideration to bringing in – Nil, lets watch the next two rounds first before jumping to conclusions. I’m already regretting taking Judd instead of Swan so I didn’t have the 2 Pie guns but at least there was no damage done this week.

I’m thinking of trading Selwood for Swan. Too hasty??
good trade i reckon pabs
164 coaches have already done that trade :D.
NOOOOO!
Swan scored 150 odd R1 last year and then averaged under 100 for the next 4 games.
The chances of Swan getting knocked out this week are the same as they were for Joel last week.
If there’s one trading rule to adhere to all year it is:
Do not trade out a premium unless it is an LTI!
You couldn’t afford Judd -> Swan anyway, Deano.

Cool thanks Deano, I really just wanted confirmation it was a bad idea..

Keeping Lower in starting 22, with Otten being rumoured to be a sub I didn’t consider him Rd 1 and had Heppel as E. Started Duigan Rd 1 but gonna put Coad from GCS in and see how he goes.
Think I’ll take Libba out for GCS Swallow, and have Harris (GCS) as E.
Leaving forwards as they are and giving Yarran ,Goodes, Varcoe and Harvey all a chance to redeem themselves, With the Crows bye McKernan not an option so will leave Darling as E and Matera in the stands..
So that’s 2 GCS in for Rd 2!!
Motts
There can’t be alot going on upstairs with Waite. Either that or he’s just got white line fever. I played with a bloke that remains one of my best mates today and played over 100 internationals but once he passed that white line the red mist took over and it was like he was a totally different person.
Talking about neurological activity (or lack thereof), the review panel once again early in the season have demonstrated classic inconsistency with the Waite/Scarlet assessments.
Was Juddy his advocate???

On the block – No one yet. Way too early in the season.
Giving serious consideration to bringing in – Robbie Tarrant, Ed Curnow… and maybe Fyfe??
Great advice, Deano.
If you are going for overall and you have J Selwood, do you be agressive and trade him out for a premium that will play so you don’t lose ground?
Also are the GC dynamic duo of Harris and Swallow automatic starters in the mids for SC? Or would you stick with at least A Krackouer?
I’m assuming that J Selwood doesn’t make the trip to Perth this week.
If you’ve got suitable coverage i.e Harris or D.Swallow, I’d keep him cos at most he’ll only be missing this week. But if you don’t then trade him out, Lingy.
wouldn’t the same rule apply about waiting a couple of weeks before trading out? (unless no backup..)
Depends, if you’re going for overall and you don’t want to lose ground or if you think you can make up the ground later on, Dolly.
Anyone got any thoughts on Johncock?
He spudded it up big time on the weekend with a disgraceful 41. needs 222 to break even, has a bye next week and i have a feeling that my gamble to try and have a unique might not have paid off, i think he’s going to get a forward tag each week.
Got a great score in the first round (2375) and as i am now much closer to overall contention than i would have thought, i’m thinking about burning a trade early to get some consistent and maybe still slightly unique to have a crack at the big one (silly not to), anyone got any ideas? already have godd and gibbs and was thinking Enright or Newman?

Appreciate thoughts on Petterd’s performance – will a cameo like that mean more TOG, or does it only cement him as a “supersub” and more time in the vest?
Yes good advice Deano and ordinarily I’d agree 100%. But also consider this. IF (and only if) Selwood doesn’t play this week, you get an average of 12 points over 2 weeks (the first 2 rounds!) + byes in round 6 and 22 (finals) which is not good enough from a premium/keeper. Puts you way behind the 8 ball (unless your like me who is way behind two 8-balls courtesy of Selwood and weakasp!ssgoldstein).
It may just be worth cutting your losses and trading a premium in this case.
