Motts Movers R10 – The Mids

Written by Motts on May 31 2011

Thrillers

Scott Thompson ($504,400, 162, 118.56, 65) – What’s there to like about the second Mover this week to be called Scott Thompson? He’s the 6th highest scorer in SC so far this year, he has a game against The Suns during SC finals, a 118 average, an average of 90 or higher for the last four years, a minimum of 21 games a year since he joined the Crows in 2005, a $500k price tag, just 2 scores under 100 for the year, 5 scores of 120 or higher, and a bye during a non-competitive round. To me, that makes Scotty VERY attractive. Can someone please tell me why he’s only in 3.15% of teams?!?

Dale Thomas ($508,400, 157, 109.67, 35) – Rossy Lyon reckons he’s the best player going around but take that with a pinch of salt – Rossy’s just pumping his tyres up before his boys take on the Pies this week. But make no mistake: Daisy is bloody good right now. His last 3 game average is a ridiculous 145. He got named a Mover last week and was so happy with himself he went out and took a screamer over Nic Nat, entered himself into Goal of the Year and thanked the 21,112 coaches who have him by adding 157 points to their bottom line. Right now I reckon there’d be more than a few who don’t have either him or Swan that might be spending a little longer on their decision to bring in Swanny.

Matthew Boyd ($535,200, 128, 121.00, 123) – Hasn’t scored under 108 since R1. I have nothing but respect for him and the way he goes about it. Even when the team loses he still scores big. Read my lips: Total. Gun.

Honourable mentions: All the usuals: Pendles, Judd, Murphy, Hodge, Griffen, Montagna, Joelwood, and Priddis. A heap of other blokes got tons in the guts this week but aren’t considered Thrillers because they have been consistent enough over the last 3.

Chillers

Hamish Hartlett ($360,300, 63, 85.13, 122) – Tantalised us with a couple of decent tons in Rounds 5 & 6 but since then has been on a slippery slope scoring 75, 84, 66, and 63. The Port Adelaide people hold out a lot of hope for this fella. His average is up from last year but needs to go further.

Stephen Hill ($342,800, 58, 84.11, 120) – Opened the season with a bang! scoring 95, 116, and a pair of 98’s but its been pretty ugly since then. I suspect it’s a factor of Sandilands’ injury (aren’t all Freo woes a factor of that right now?). His last 3 have been 76, 61, and 58.

Shaun Burgoyne ($332,400, 64, 80.67, 97) – If you’re reading this Burger, I’m going to continue to shame you until you come good. Seriously mate, 64 last week?? You are so much better than that. Are you injured? If so, come out and tell me – Scott Thompson would LOVE to be in The Maulers. If not, pull your bloody finger out!!

Special note: There was a request to name D Cross a Chiller this week but with a 96 only 3 rounds ago he’s got one more week to make amends. He’s definitely on notice though with a 77 and a 68 since then.

Drillers

Nathan Foley ($430,900, 145, 92.90, 52) – Tested the patience of SC coaches early by getting subbed off in his first game but has rewarded those who stuck with him. His 145 on the weekend was his biggest score for the year and comes off the back of a couple of mid-90s efforts. Give him a week if you’re keen because the Tiges have got the bye this week.

Travis Boak ($454,400, 156, 101.11, 51) Everyone on this site was pretty clued up as to T-Bo’s potential before the season kicked off. The problem for a lot of us though was and is: he plays for Port. Can you imagine how he’d be going in a decent midfield surrounded by class players? Last 3 rounds: 117, 99, 156 (oooph!). Owned by 3.25% of coaches.

Andrew Swallow ($446,000, 129, 105.89, 53) – Swallow Snr was always going to be one to watch in 2011 after averaging 98 in 2009 and then 106 in 2010. He went a little cold and flirted with Chillerdom in Rounds 6, 7 and 8 this year but is back on the scoring train in the last couple notching up a 119 and a 129.

Special mentions: Liam Shiels (still getting it done – last 4: 98, 97, 119, 103 and still under $400k), Luke Ball, Scott Selwood, Daniel Rich (last 5: 93, 138, 97, 102, 109), Dustin Martin, and Jarrad McVeigh (last 6: 90, 96, 103, 121, 95, 103).

  1. Didn’t Adelaide already play GC? Ablett scored a million points; Hunt got pwned by Rodney Dangerfield iirc.

  2. Thinking the same about Hodge. Imagine he gets rested in the grand final because they play suns in round 24? Ouch

  3. Was gonna bring in Mundy, but now i’m leaning towards Thommo! He’s more unique in my league and is absolutely banging out big tonnes. However “an average of 116 or higher for the last SEVEN years”? That is completely wrong. But his work this year is too hard to ingnore, welcome to my side Scotty!!!

  4. Still caught in 2 minds over who to trade in this week: Hodge or Thompson. I’m pretty sure he’ll get rested sometime in finals just to freshen himself up. He has a great draw though. I’m slightly le\aning towards Thommo at the moment. Thommo has a pretty good draw himself. Hmmm. Thoughts?

  5. Aw Busta, go Thompson cause not many people have him, and he will give you a big boost going towards finals.

  6. I’ll be happy to be proved wrong (BULLSH…..oops can’t afford that) on this but I’m not convinced on Thompson. Four of his five big scores were against Port, St Kilda (who were terrible that night) Gold Coast and Brisbane. He will still solid enough but I want my premium mids to gun it every week. I just don’t think he’s that good. A grade, not elite.

  7. I’ve got Burgoyne and Harris in my mids…

Surely its worth keeping burger in the hope that he wakes up from his coma and actually fullfills even a quarter of his potential….

    Thumbs up upgrade Harris
    Thumbs down upgrade Burgoyne

  8. I am hunting for a midfield gun. I am going to get pendle after the bye but cannot decide between Mundy, Ablett and S.Thompson.
Mundy – No SC byes. Can he maintain this form as the Dockers drop in form? What happens to his form if Barlow hits his straps in a month or so?
Ablett – No more SC byes. GCS have a decent run home during finals but I risk some low scores during regular season when they are pumped by some top 8 sides. Will the work load be too great on the little guy and cause him to need a rest for a week or two before season’s end?
Thompson – No more SC byes. Can he maintain the form as his side struggles? Plays some tough sides from here on in.
    What to do??

  9. On Boyd … can anybody explain to me why he only scored 80s during the four SC finals last year? Was his fitness an issue?

  10. Upgrade gibbs to whom??? cash is not an issue. Already have Mundy, Ablett, Pendlebury, Thompson, Cotchin and on the bench Harris, Evans and Bewick.

    Thinking Jude Bolton or Silvia

  11. Had to laugh Motts, when I read Boak would probably go pretty well if he didn’t play for Port. But I still remember plenty of the same stuff being said about Burgoyne… who this week is a chiller!!

Not a criticism mate, just an observation. 😛

  12. Losing patience (and $) with Cross.
Suspect he will loose a bit more in coming weeks.
Don’t see him as a prem mid at pointy end of season so thinking of dumping him while there’s still some coin on his back.

    Replacement options:

T Up: Hodge (price about to increase further)
T Down: Boyd (GUN, though hopefully his price will level out and can pick him up later)

Already have – Swan, Pendles, Mundy

  13. Motts – you’re right about DT. While I wasn’t going to trade in Swan, I was going to bring in Hodgey this week and now Daisy has got me thinking twice. Also want to grab Mzungu at his bargain basement price. According to Tooserious, Daisy’s price will rise by around $33K, Hodgey’s up $16.5K and Mzungu’s up by $27.5K. By this reasoning, I should leave Hodgey for another week.

Possible trade bait in my midfield includes Dangerfield, Swallow and Harris. Never thought I’d trade out Dangerfield, but his good games have been few and far between.
