Motts Movers R11, 2012 – The Backs

Written by Motts on June 12 2012

Premiums

Matthew Scarlett ($486,200, 95.67, 46) – Scarlo is a graduate of the Paul Chapman School of Happy Footballers and has consequently already spent 3 weeks on the pine after succumbing to the tremendous desire to thump the bejesus out of Hayden Ballentyne. He also missed a couple of weeks with an ankle injury. Which is all a great shame because when he does get on the park he has the propensity to score like he has for the last 3 weeks: 98, 108, 134. My point is: he’s a good player but you just can’t trust that you’re going to have him on the park often enough – give him a miss. (PS If just reading about thumping Ballantyne fired you up, check out @Iron_Balls07 ‘s current profile pic).

Michael Johnson ($495,000, 98.73, 79) – As the only male athlete in history to win both the 200 metre dash and 400 metre dash events at the same Olympics you always knew he was going to be pretty hard to catch. And with those flashy gold boots he’s always been very easy to see on the field. Wait. Sorry what? Different guy? Oh. For some reason, opposition coaches refuse to put someone on this Michael Johnson which means he just roams around centre half back picking up possessions like Duck picked up Thai, um, service professionals. Get him after this week’s bye.

Brendon Goddard ($515,900, 106.45, 93) – Not setting the world on fire like he has in previous years but still doing enough to get a Movers mention. Last 6 rounds: 120, 113, 115, 97, 106, 104.  Plays Adelaide at AAMI this week before taking a week off so you may want to hold fire if you’re thinking about bringing him in.

Midpricers

Rhyce Shaw ($370,200, 66.10, -54) – Woah! Where did his last fortnight come from? Did someone in the family have money on him to get Brownlow votes in Rounds 10 and 11? Here’s Rhyce’s scores from R2 onwards: 62, 39, 56, 25, 44, 42, 60, 60, 148, 125. What the? If you like living dangerously, pick him up. Otherwise grab someone like…

Shannon Hurn ($475,300, 94.90, 84) – Consistent performer with massive thighs who averages close to 100 despite being the object of Deano’s undying affection. Can kick it a mile and with his bye now out the way, he’s attractive even if you don’t barrack for WC.

Jason Gram ($419,300, 88.43, 7) – I was all set to go on about finally finding someone to DPP Goddard and Lids with in your midfield but then discovered that they’ve taken Grammy’s DPP status off him this year and just made him a straight Back. Bugger. Still, at $419k he’s good value and can pump out scores like his last couple where he’s gone for 119 and 120. Again, like BJ, he plays ‘Delayed over there this week then has his bye.

Their scores don’t warrant a Movers mention but Grant Birchall and Chris Newman are both solid performers who are dirt cheap right now. I rate ‘em both and am more than happy to go out on a limb to recommend you snaffle ‘em prior to R14.

Value Picks

Sam Shaw ($113,200, 74, -11) – He’s Big Sexy’s #1 Rookie this week and his name is all over Trade Talk so you’re no doubt already aware of him. With scores of 77 and 71 to date and his bye done and dusted he’ll be a handy pick up if he can get a few games. Just make sure he gets named.

Andrew Moore ($180,700, 39.50, 26) – Came on as the sub in his first game but got a full run in his second and managed a 68 (82 in DT). Plays for Port so you know he’ll see tons of it.

Josh Bootsma ($191,600, 50, -8) – You’re not going to pick him over Shaw after his 39 against the Cats and a bye next week but I still love the way BOOTS! goes about it. Tough, unrelenting, and a blonde afro to BOOTS! Fast becoming a cult figure at Princes Park.

  1. After a few weeks off, Motts goes BANG! Maybe give the Blues a few weeks off…

I think Shaw’s scores were helped by the Eski being dropped 2 weeks ago and wearing the vest last week.

  2. Awesome right up as always Mottsy. Always brings a smile to face reading these as well 🙂
“Consistent performer with massive thighs” made me smile more than I should have for some reason!

  3. Hey guys, apparently mid year rookie elevations were meant to be in by 2pm today. Meaning the likes of Sam Gibson and Majak Daw might give good mid season downgrade targets. Anyone seen a link to who has been promoted?

  4. Yeah, Shawy was doing some tagging for us earlier in the season, and doing a mighty fine job too if I might say so myself.
Got a go at running around against the dogs with Eski out and took it with both hands… Would’ve been nice to pick him up last week at 300k, but I still see value in him at under 400.

  5. Got on MJ for Carazzo and at the time thought it was a massive gamble. It was either him, duffield or Heppell and went MJ. The week I bring him in he is on 15 at half time and Duffy is on 67 and I pretty much wanna delete my team. Since then he is a consistent beast and a backline hero. One of the great pickups of the year and probably the no.1 value back pick as he has played all games and ave. 98. DPP means he can sit in the fwd line through byes and swap with Ellis when he is ready to get the boot. Now it’s just depressing that I’m gonna have to share him! Ecstacy4lyf

  6. I heard Ratten on SEN saying Scotland (and Carrots I think) were a chance to play this week. I feel better about holding onto Scotland now.

  7. Nice work motts. Guys, quick poll please on who to use the captaincy loop hole on this week:

    Thumbs up: Priddis

    Thumbs down: Natanui

    Cheers

  8. I’m looking at Matt Suckling at a cheap $385,900. Ave 86.18, BE of 71. Rd13 bye is the only thing putting me off him.

  9. This will be my finished backline that will take me through to finals.

Lids, Goddard, Enright, Birchall, Adcock, Broughton, Malceski(Darley, Shaw)

Will complete my team next week with Swan to finish.

Only one problem is I will only have 2 trades left for any changes or LTI’s.

    T/u – Respectable backline

T/d – Will need to use a double trade

  10. Will we know if S Shaw will get picked before the partial lockout?

I need the cash from the Morris-Shaw trade to be able to afford Conig-Priddis

  11. Wow – Scarlett’s average was a surprise … don’t know how that slipped past me. He’s always been somebody who I really rate as a footballer, but has not really been a reliable fantasy prospect (despite brief periods of fantastic scores). Maybe he hasn’t had a chance to get into an inconsistent phase yet this season, but still thanks for the head’s up !!

  12. Nice thoughts about Hurn, Motts but he’s up and down like a bride’s nightie. I reckon Birchall’s got a bit of fire in him though.
