Motts Movers R11 – The Backs

Written by Motts on June 6 2011

Thrillers

All 3 of these blokes were staples in SC backlines in the last couple of years but have suffered through the first half of the 2011 SC season with poor form and/or injury. Going by the weekend’s results, they’re back baby and its time to give them all serious consideration while they’re valued at these prices.

Shannon Hurn ($395,700, 140, 85.80, 31) – Flagged him last week as a Driller and anyone who got on him was rewarded with a 140 score and a $37k price rise. It will now only cost you $50k to upgrade Lower to a bloke that has averaged 115 over his last 3 and has a pretty easy run through the SC Finals. In only 2% of teams which as of today makes him a great POD too.

Greg Broughton ($406,900, 114, 91.33, 40) – Had an issue with his back earlier this year but judging by his last 3 games (avg 108) he appears to be over it. Has lost a staggering $72k so far this year and with a non-competitive bye he’s attractive as all get up.

Sam Gilbert ($386,700, 101, 83.80, 71) – Gilbs has only played 2 absolute stinkers this year so why he’s this cheap is beyond me. 6 of his scores have been 87 or higher and his average over the last 3 is a handy 99. Be wary of bringing him in if you have a few Saints premiums already in your team – you wouldn’t want to lose that much firepower when the Saints have their second bye for the year in R14. Is a handy D/F DPP.

Honourable mentions: Heath Scotland (it is such a shame about Carlton’s 2nd bye), Sam Fisher, Grant Birchall, Paul Duffield and Heath Shaw.

Chillers

Dustin Fletcher ($358,600, 64, 81.78, 130)

Brian Lake ($338,800, 49, 58.80, 126)

Nick Smith ($293,100, 20, 71.70, 117)

Drillers

Paul Puopolo ($247,500, 85, 75.80, -14) – Don’t think that just because you didn’t have this guy from the get-go that you’ve missed the boat. Sure you’re going to be paying an extra $144k to get him but if keeps averaging 84 like he has over his last 3, he’s still super value at this price. And with the Hawks defence decimated by injury he’s going to get a game all year.

Matthew Broadbent ($332,400, 90, 71.18, 50) – Has averaged 90 over his last 3 and is a D/M DPP. Has the bye in R12 so if you’re keen on him, keep your powder dry for a week.

Marty Mattner ($343,500, 118, 83.30, -3) – Started off the year with a bang then fell in a hole. Over his last 3 has averaged 103.7 but scored 117 and 118 in his last 2.

Special mentions: Nick Malceski (not cheap at $450k but has averaged 88 over 3 games since coming back, 143 BE this week), Stefan Martin, Michael Hibberd, Luke Delaney, Cam Pedersen, Alex Johnson, Clancee Pearce, Joel MacDonald (2 weeks after being named a Chiller he scores another ton), Jimmy Gwilt, and Andrew Carrazzo.

  1. I look forward to Motts Movers every week 🙂

I love it when you confirm my suspicions as well,
before this I was already considering bringing in Gilbert, seems to be back in form and scored 101 against Collingwood which I thought was a good effort.

  2. Is lower to gilbert a good move or is it too sideways? There is only around 35k difference… I’m just not sure if I want lower as a keeper.

  3. I’m thinking Duigan to Broughton straight up. Should I do that, or should I double trade to get a extra premium, for example Sammy Fisher. Keeping in mind I only have about 11 trades left.

  4. Are there any rookies close to the bubble at the moment?
Any good downgrade options getting about?

  6. what is the opinion of everyone of broughton vs. goddard over the whole season?

was thinking of waiting till goddard gets back into form, but broughton looks a good option to jump on..

  7. Looking at one trade this week tipping out Duigan, I think he’s peaked. I was thinking about getting Enright but already have Selwood, Corey & Chapman from the Cats. Is it a better move to get Gilbert? I have Goddard & Roo. There’s 86k in the bank so I can make a stright swap for either player.

Enright ($384200, Av 96.1) thumbs up

    S.Gilbert ($386700 Av 83.8) thumbs down

  8. What defender should I get under 460,000? I have got Shaw, Goddard, Gibbs and Hurley.

    thanks in advance
