Motts Movers R12, 2012 – The Backs

Premiums

Nathan Grima ($483,600, 105.8, 47) – NATHAN! played his first year in 2009 averaging 82 over 13 games. The next year he averaged 91 over 17 games. Last year he played only 12 games and averaged 70. So far this year he’s played 5 games and scored 68, 97, 120, 126, and 118. I’m actually starting to think that he may be the real deal.

Beau Waters ($524,400, 100.91, 125) – On a week when not a lot of premium defenders played, Big Bad Beau came to the party with a 105 against the Pies. That was his 7th ton for the year. He hasn’t scored less than 76 all season.

Midpricers

Andrew Carrazzo ($465,300, 93.2, 147) – He didn’t play last week but Carrots is Mottsy’s choice value pick of the week. If you can hold off a week, do so because he hasn’t scored 147 all year so far. The reason he’s so cheap is a broken scapula very early in the R4 Essendon game. Take that week out and he’s averaging a whopping 118. Now that’s what I call value!

Scott McMahon ($429,700, 83.83, 65) – Here’s one you might’ve missed. Scotty started the year in average fashion before registering a 98 against Sydney in R4. He then goes missing for 6 rounds coming back after North’s R11 bye and scoring 99 and 94 in the next 2 rounds.

Corey Enright ($454,000, 89.64, 101) – “BS 4 CE”. That’s what’s been carved into a tree near Big Sexy’s house. He loves him. Personally, I’m not convinced on Enright. Sure he belted out 123 against the Swans on Friday night but the game before that he could only manage a 49 against Carlton. The consistency just isn’t there this year. If you’re of the thinking that he could turn it all around in the second half of the season though, $454k is a very tempting price. Me? I’m passing.

Brian Lake ($394,400, 83, 60) – You’ve probably already got him – over a third of all teams do – but I’m going to mention him anyway. Can score tons (he’s had 3 this year) but more often than not he’ll ease out 80-something for you. Like.

Value Picks

Shaun Edwards ($183,700, 54, -40) – Last 2 weeks: 70 and 81. You don’t need me to tell you that’s great value for a guy under $200k

Brodie Martin ($270,200, 67.75, 7) – Because of their run home, we love Adelaide players in SC this year so I’m giving you the early heads up on Ol Brodes. He’s never played more than 5 games a year in his 4 year career with the Cows but this could be the break-out. His last 3 rounds have been 67, 92, 63.

Nathan Brown ($239,700, 54.17, 11) – If you’re a one eyed Pies supporter, trade him in today. You’ll love seeing another splash of black and white in your backline to go with Heath Shaw, Harry O and Marty Clarke. If not, give him a miss.

  1. Feeling regret this morning, picked up the gold medalist M Johnson last week instead of Big Bad Beau.

  3. Great write up motts! @tendai I know how you feel, I was tossing up between M Johnson and Grima all week and went Johnson because I thought he’d be more consistent…oh how i was wrong…on the flip side I also picked up waters who smashed out a ton…but also got Gibson for Trelor…sigh…

  4. I thinking of trading in carrots for Clarke this week. I know carrots’ BE is high at
Around 154 but Clarkes is around 133 so surely theirs price drops will be similar. Or do you think it’s worthy to wait as Clarke might bang out a 140. Yeah right.

  5. Looking to get one of the Carlton defenders next week. Price isn’t an issue.

    Thumbs Up – Carrazzo
    Thumbs Down – Scotland

  6. I’ve got a tentative four trade plan over the next two weeks.

    This week:
    Zaha – Beams
    Shiel – Crozier/Gibson

    Next week:
    Clarke – Carozzo
Giles – Best Ruckmen I can afford. Hopefully Ryder.

    What are people’s thoughts?

  8. Got Carrazzo in the week he got his injury and traded him out straight away… not sure if I should bring him back in this week

  9. The other one who MIGHT be worth looking at (give it another week) is Daniel Connors from Richmond if you have a large risk/reward appetite.

Corey Enright missed the whole pre-season which explains some of his inconsistency, but the other concern is how often he will be rested in the run home (and even if the Cats can AFFORD to rest players this year). Being one of their oldies I’m sure he’ll have a rest or two though …
