Premiums
Dayne Beams ($606,900, 111.55, 101) – Crikey! How well has Beamsy been travelling? Since R4 when he was valued $100k lower than he is now he’s plundered: 106, 98, 137, 109, 80, 175, 121, 137 and 128. That gives him a 140 avg over the last 4. If you’re questioning if he’ll keep up his scoring when Pendles returns, just know that Pendles has only been out for the last 2 of those scores.
Paul Chapman ($562,600, 105.83, 145) – Missed getting a mention last week because of Geelong’s bye but one round on here he is again after easing out a casual 95. Has kicked at least one goal in every match since R3 and averages over 5 angry tackles a game. Getting tackled by Chappy – now there’s something I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy!
Steele Sidebottom ($572,400, 114, 90) – Does anyone have Beams, Sidey, Pendles, Swan, and Shaw in their SC team? DavePies? If you do you’d probably be needing a physio right about now to help relocate your shoulder after you’ve spent so much time patting yourself on the back. Steele had a 74 three weeks ago but I’m overlooking that because since then he’s gone for 156 and 99. Nice job.
Midpricers
Ryan O’Keefe ($495,500, 89.45, 81) – Why have I held off so long on recommending ROK? Coz BS LOVES him too. If love for ROK was a population, BS would be China. He started the year off really slowly missing the first game and then scoring just 21, 87, 69, 95, 83 and 84. Certainly not up to the level we’ve come to expect from him. Since R8 though he’s smashed out 136, 109, 84, 123 and 93. My concern is that his high scoring has coincided with Goodesy’s absence and Sydney’s other midfielders – Jack, Hannebery, and Kennedy – are really starting to come on. My recommendation: take the hard place over ROK.
Matthew Pavlich ($486,900, 97.58, 78) – Has only gone seriously missing twice this year and despite the fact that he’s averaged 105.5 for the last 4 weeks you can still pick him up this week for only $8k more than his lowest price for the year. Surprisingly (for me anyway) he’s in only 17% of all teams. What’s Freo’s SC Finals run look like? Adelaide (away), Richmond (home), North (away) and then in the all-important final, Melbourne at home. I think I just talked myself into getting him.
Shaun Higgins ($396,700, 76.67, 24) – I can hear your collective groans now. No one wants Shaun Higgins to do well because we all feel so good not having him in our teams. Unfortunately for us all though, over the last 2 weeks he’s managed a 114 and a 99. Console yourself with the knowledge that Nath only has him scheduled to score 76 against Essendon this week.
Dayne Zorko ($392,600, 92.67, -18) – No I didn’t trade him in last week. Yes he scored his 4th ton in 6 games. Yes I’m now sticking pins into the knees of a stocky little Zorko doll hoping for a season ending ACL injury.
Value Picks
Jamie Elliott ($227,800, 67.75, -22) – Should’ve added this guy’s name to the list of Pies players above. Went up an impressive $73k last week after scoring 96 against The Coasters and 106 against GC. The way he’s playing he really looks like keeping his spot so if you’re going to get on board there’s no time like the present.
Jonathon Patton ($196,600, 62.50, -8) – He ain’t cheap for a guy that’s only averaging 62-odd but will play out the year and could really go off against sides that don’t have much of a defence. Hawthorn (R15), you hearing me?

Thanks Matty! Re Higgins – the numbers don’t lie (nor can get plastered). On a personal note, I’ve actually started Dry July early.

Have Shaw, Pendles, Beams, Swan, Sidebottom and also Elliott in my team. It’s so annoying, I want Collingwood to win so they get the share of the points but saying I want Collingwood to win is so dirty.

It reminds me of something I heard last year. A cats supporter bet on collingwood to win the grand final, that if the cats lost he would not be completely devastated. So you can still barack for the other team, but if they lose you have the consolation prize of 100′s of sc points

I’m pretty sure you’ll find SC is finish by the start of the actual finals starting Nick……I think he was talking BS to you!
SC finals are completed with the GF being the last game of the home & away season!

Just like to give a shout out to big Jezza Cameron for his service during the bye rounds with scores of 105 (R12) and 74 (R13).

Bloody Hargrave – though in all fairness, the 2 games leading up to his being dropped it was almost like he wasn’t there anyway …

Bit like the mighty Hawks mate. One for all and all for one.
Come to think of it we’ve been known as “The Family Club” for a long time too so it’s a surprise we didn’t end up based in Tassie sooner.

While we’re on the McLean thing, does anyone else find it both hilarious and disturbing that he cops $7500 for a pretty harmless sledge but good old Cousi gets away with $800 for possession.

Disturbingly normal I’m afraid. The players must WISH their “foibles” would be dealt with by a real court rather than the AFL – in some ways you’de be better off attacking someone with a machete off the field than to “vilify” someone on it …

Shaun Higgins could be belting out 150′s for 10 weeks in a row, i’d draft him in and then he’d pull a hammy again and score 5.
Never again Shaun, never!!!!

Got a stark reminder last week about having guys that score in “potential” rather than “reality” when I traded in Grimey as a POD thinking he could average me 100 for the remainder or the season with the Dees’ easier draw only to be rewarded with a 60 in a ten goal win off 26 posessions!

Haha, thanks for the mention mate. I have Pendles, Swan, Beams, Sidey & Cloke (who I traded in last week for Brandon Ellis).
Although I don’t need supercoach performances to increase my love of a player from my own club, having D.B in my SC side makes going to the footy each week an absolute treat. Pendles to Sidey to Beams to Swan to Cloke to goals. BANG! +400 in 12 seconds!
Hot debate. What do you think?

Yup, me too, did the same, Selwood over Swan (face palm) on the back of very consistent Selwood scoring for the season .. will continue to hope he brings it home.. at least I won’t be the only one ..
Damn pies..

LOL – if you had Beams, Sidey, Pendles, Swan, and Shaw in your SC team you’d need a physio just to get them playing from week to week !! Apart from Sidebum, they have all missed (or are about to miss) between 2 to 4 games so far this season, excluding the bye. You’d be absolutely cursing the SC gods of injury if you had them all in your team from the start !!

Yep, “point of difference” means just that – it is far more likely to be a bad thing than a good thing (generally popular players are popular for good reason). Hell, any crappy player who scores you less than the respected player most other people hold is a “point of difference”. In fact, every single team ranked outside the top 100,000 is comprised almost ENTIRELY of players who are points of difference.
Still, if you ignore the POD thing, Sylvia could be a good pickup, but it would depend on who you would be replacing (Zorko or Panos ?), whether it would be making you cash or taking cash away from other purchases and also how many trades you have left. Sylvia is a risk – and it might pay off – but you would need to calculate that against the criteria I listed above. ie. more info would be required for anyone else to venture an opinion as to his worth in your team structure and situation.

Well I was looking at trading Bugg out, substituting Johnson into the backline and trading Sylvia in. forward line would look like PAV, Reiwolt, Danger, Porps,Zorko Sylvia, Buddy, Hale , Sidebottom, it seems to strengthen my backline and gives me another Dpp in the forward line .what do you guys think good trade t/u bad trade td

Good trade. You know Sylvia is inconsistent and injury prone (consider Didak too at about the same price with similar flaws/potential), but he is just as likely to go well 2nd half of the year. Especially since Neeld recently put pressure on him by saying that:
“You either behave yourself in or, in some cases, some people might behave themselves out,” he said.
“Asked whether inconsistent midfielder Colin Sylvia was under that umbrella, Neeld said: “Colin has a year-and-a-half of his contract here.
“Colin has a number of attributes that should make him an elite AFL player. Colin will earn the opportunity through his actions to play senior footy in the second half of the year.”
He said the “right mix” on his playing list, combined with Sylvia’s next 11 matches, among other considerations, would contribute to a decision on Sylvia’s future.”

Loving the ROK write up Mr McMotts…… he is a classic case of missed end of pre-season and first game.. then eased in with the vest, and has been building…. and building and BUILDING and BUILDING….. prob one of my best buys of 2012…. again, it was a gamble at the time, but a gun player is a gun player and will always come good.
