Motts Movers R16, 2012 – The Mids

Premiums

Chris Judd ($524,200, 109.64, 36) – Hasn’t had a great week so I’m doing my bit to cheer him up. Juddy (THE Juddy), you’re a Midfield Mover this week! Over the last 3 weeks you’ve scored 126 against Hawthorn, 126 against the filthy Pies, and finally a 159 v North. Its unfortunate you won’t be playing with the boys for a month but take the time off to get the body right and come back in R22 and continue to dominate. Cheers, Motts.

James Kelly ($538,300, 103.33, 34) – Would you believe me if I told you that Kelly was the second highest scoring midfielder over the last 3 rounds? Its irrelevant because I don’t care, but he is. Here’s a bloke who’s in less than 1% of teams and he’s dominating – last 3 weeks: 115, 148, 148. Wow! Its his 11th year in the AFL so he is getting a little long in the toof but here’s his SC average since 2008: 91, 89, 99, 94 and now 103 this year. Can I honestly sit at my keyboard and recommend him to you? No. But his recent performances definitely earn him a Movers spot.

Trent Cotchin ($560,100, 113, 104) – Now here’s a bloke I can certainly recommend to you who hasn’t gotten the recognition he deserves from The Movers column in 2012. Allow me to roll out some stats for you: has only missed the ton twice (a 73 and a 99), played in every game, ranked 12th in the comp, scored higher than 120 6 times, has starred in a Jeep commercial and has a ripping ‘do. Remarkably, he’s in only 10% of teams (including mine). He’s a bona fide POD Premium. Get around him.

Midpricers

Bernie Vince ($436,200, 83.73, -9) – We all know Adelaide have a ripping SC Finals run, so if Thommo or Rory are either already in your side or don’t push your buttons, give some thought to Bern who has gone on a bit of a tear recently scoring 124 against The Mighty Power and then backing that up with a 152 against The All Conquering Giants. Bern started the year at $475k so he’s at a bit of a discount at the moment (despite rising $83k in the last couple of weeks). Conversely, you may want to wait until Adelaide have the WC and Geelong games out of the way in the next couple of weeks.

Simon Black ($470,500, 98.27, 57) – Over the last 3 weeks, Blacky has wrenched the fork out of his ass and screamed to the world “I’m not done!!”. That’s probably a little unfair given he’s averaging close to a ton but he has been going particularly well lately. 117 against The Dogs, 114 against Melbourne (after scoring 152 against ‘em in R1) and then a 117 against The Saints. With much of the tagging attention going to Rockliff, Redden and/or Rich, Black has been free to play his game. In less than 1% of teams and an A grade SC Finals run.

Toby Greene ($456,700, 88.92, 26) – Hasn’t received the attention of The Mighty Zork but I’m going to throw his name up as Rookie of the Year. He’s been doing his thang from R1, only missing 2 games along the way, has 3 tons and 9 80+ scores to his name and over the last fortnight has gone BANG! BANG! with a 126 against The Hawks and a 127 against Adelaide. That’s not like playing Melbourne and the Gold Coast! If he was in your team, and close to 12,000 coaches can say that he is, you’d be holding onto him right now – he’s defnitely playing like a keeper.

Value Picks

Elliot Yeo ($106,600, 57, -51) – His claim to fame prior to taking to AFL was the mention he got at the beginning of N.W.A.’s classic, ‘Express Yourself’: “Yeo, man. There’s a lot of brothers out there flakin’ and perpetratin’ but scared to kick reality.” Played his first game in R9 and scored 47 against North then played again last week for a 67 against The Saints. That puts him on the bubble this week. If Tommy Couch ain’t named, throw some consideration his way.

Stephen Clifton ($130,700, 55) – 55 in his first game and in a couple of weeks faces Port, then GC, then Melbourne in a 3 week period. Probably not as cheap as you’d like him to be but certainly an option if he gets named.

Sam Gibson ($220,900, 56, 11) – Still under $250k, getting games and scoring reasonably well. Ah who am I kidding. I just threw him in here because I needed a third name. At this end of the season you shouldn’t be throwing $220k at a rookie averaging 56.

  1. Motts, you’ve used Kelly’s numbers for Judd. He has a pair of 126’s from his last two before the chicken wing. Speaking of Kelly, I remember having him as a defender at the end of 2010. Considering that Deledio and Carazzo are playing full time midfield, they will probably also lose their DPP and will be less fantasy relevant next year.

I’d also steer clear of Black who has a dodgy knee and is basically a week to week proposition.

  2. I’m sure he’s been mentioned in previous Movers but Keiren Jack is absolutely ripping it apart at the moment. 147, 102 and 158 from the last three and a freaking mammoth average of just under 134 since RD 8. That’s right! Better than any season average going around!

Anyone pick him up for under $440k?
