Motts Movers R13, 2013 – The Mids

Written by Motts on June 26 2013

Premiums

Ryan Griffen ($663,200, 125.5, 130) – No one in SC has played a better last 3 games than Griffo. Not GAJ, not Swan, not Barlow, not Pendles. He’s averaged a full 6 points a game more than GAJ in 2nd place. Since returning from a 2 week injury layoff in R7 he’s scored: 171, 101, 136, 176, 129 & 143. That, mi amigos, is Gablettesque. And still in under 6% of teams.

Gary Ablett ($690,000, 138.25, 126) – I wonder what its like not to have Gary and line up week in, week out against blokes who do. Scores a full 10 points a game more than the next best player in the game (Pendles) and has only missed the ton once in R2 against Sydney who managed to contain him to 99 points. The Suns have an unbelievable SC Finals run too: Melbourne, Port, St Kilda and GWS in the GF. Kinda makes me wish I’d held onto JO’M.

Dane Swan ($578,300, 118, 60) – I was about to write that D Swan is “SC’s Forgotten Man” but then I noted that he’s in 1/3rd of all teams. Hmmm seems he hasn’t faded completely from everyone’s memories! And with good reason. 3 weeks ago he was worth $544k and had just come off a terrible 3 weeks by his standards: 94, 84 and 67. He subsequently dropped to $523k the week after but went on a tear against some of the lesser teams to remind us that he’s still one of the hardest working and hardest to tag midfielders in the game: 131 against Brisbane at the Gabba, 148 against Melbourne at the G, and 149 against the Dogs at Etihad. Bang!

Midpricers

Travis Boak ($481,400, 105.36, 81) – He missed last week with a fractured digit and is only rated a 50-50 chance to meet Collingwood this week but whether he plays or not, he’s had a great year – pumping up his average by a full 15 points a game. 7 tons in 11 outings with a couple of 134’s his highest score.

Sam Mitchell ($496,700, 105.92, 112) – Not as damaging as he’s been in previous years hinting that Old Father Time is starting to lay a tougher tag on him but I’ve got no doubt there’s more than a few tons left in him in 2013. I will admit a R23 match up against Sydney is a little concerning though.

Luke Ball ($391,900, 97.25, 13) – Was a late withdrawal from The Pies last game against The Dogs but prior to that had averaged 108 over 3 games against Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. According to our Injury Report he’s a ‘test’ this week so if you’re dead keen on him keep an eye on the Weekly Teams. My advice is to avoid him – this is not the time of year to be bringing in a bloke coming off a recent Long Term Injury.

Rookies

Lachlan Hunter ($109,500) – Bashed out an 86 in his first game last week. If you’re desperate, make sure he gets named this week. If you’re not, give him one more week before bringing him in.

Nathan Hrovat ($161,900, 59.33, 4) – Another Doggie in the window. Last chance to get him if you want him. His 3 scores have been: 86, 62 and 30 (red vested).

  1. Traded in Griff last week and was stoked with the 143 on debut, Pendles comes in this week so I’m happy with the strengthening of my midfield. Have one more spot to fill which I hope will be Barlow once Tommy Mitchell/Kyle Martin fatten up.

  2. Here’s a stat for you, worked this out on a calculator before and I’m going with what I remember as the answer.

When Ryan Griffen tops the ton (taking out his 80-odd plus injury score) he averages 139. That’s huge.

  3. Interesting I pondered Griff Dog for my last premium mid spot and got a resounding Thumbs Down look elsewhere but hell these numbers can’t be ignored. Pity I have this Birchal, BGoodes backline dilemma to deal with this week also. But hey I Love this Supercoach business.

  4. I picked up Luke Ball a few weeks back before his first price rise for $301,800. He’s now $391,900 and has a BE of 13. He has a 3 game avg of 108.33 too. Not part of my long term plans but if you look at the Collingwood draw, their next five weeks is Port, Carlton, Adelaide, GC, GWS before a tougher finish to the season. Could end up at $500,000 before SC finals and should score well in process. Then i will upgrade him or Mitchell into the most inform elite midfielder and the other will become M9.
