Motts Movers R22 – The Rucks

Written by Motts on August 24 2011

Don’t know about you, but I found it hard to care a lot about the rucks this year. Big Cox was a set-and-forget lock for the first spot and once Sandi went down the second spot went to Zac Smith with Petrie swinging through for support.

Have any other rucks been getting the job done for you lately? And who’s gone missing?

  1. Recruited the big mummy 2 weeks ago for Zac Smith as his scores were rapidly decreasing…since then Mumford has scored 123 and 165 compared to Smiths 35 and 0…a trade that could prove to be a premiership key 🙂

  2. Agree Cox was a lock in. Had 211 and when he bemcjed had him covered with Petrie, Bailey and Tippett. Suffice to say all 5 playing!

  3. Totally agree with all of that Motts, picked up Bailey and Lobbe after Sandi crashed out the first time. They were cheap to go with the players you mentioned above and swapped them all around a lot with big Max being more than useful.

  4. had cox and sandi from he beginning, but made poor choices on my reserve rucks so when sandi went down, i had no backup……ended up getting Mr D.Hale from Hawthorn into my side…..he has served me very well, average has been charging up since i moved him into my team for cheap

  5. Cox and Goldstein from the start of the year. Probably downgraded Goldy a few weeks too early thinking he had peaked and McIntosh would come back and diminish his scoring, and Sandi would be back as well. Got Mummy in a few weeks ago and very happy!

  6. Couldn’t disagree more Motts. In previous years the set and forget theory has been in vogue with the rucks but this year there’s been real interest in the ruck stocks.

Firstly there was real value to be made in ruck upgrades this year. Look at these price rises:
    Zac CLARKE +246,700
    Max BAILEY +209,400
    Jonathon GRIFFIN +197,200
    Todd GOLDSTEIN +179,100
    Matthew LEUENBERGER +176,700
    Zachary SMITH +158,200
    Ben MCEVOY +154,100
    Rory THOMPSON +138,800
    Dean COX +122,700
    Tom BELLCHAMBERS +122,500
    Cameron WOOD +115,000
… plus VARDY, SEABY, BROWNE, WARNOCK, NAITANUI and VICKERY all making +75,000

Added to that seven rucks have averaged over 100+ for the season:
    COX .. 125.3
    GOLDSTEIN .. 114.3
    MUMFORD .. 111.6
    SANDILANDS .. 110.6
    MCEVOY .. 103.5
    GRIFFIN .. 101
    LEUENBERGER .. 100.4

Thirdly, there have been significant gaps in the season for the following:
    MUMFORD .. rnds 10-12 & 14-15
    SANDILANDS .. rnds 10-12, 15-20 & 23-24
    OTTENS .. rnds 6, 10, 14, 17-18, 20, 22
    SEABY .. rnds 2-9, 16-24
    JOLLY .. rnds 4, 6-14, 18
    JAMAR .. rnds 5, 8-13, 16, 20
    HILLE .. rnds 2-4, 10, 13, 24
    KREUZER .. rnds 1-11, 23

Plus, the Petrie / K Tippett MPP to cover bye’s and injuries

The rucks have definitely been of interest this year IMO

  7. Gotta agree, RB. It never ceases to amaze me just how well rucks can score – there is often quite a gap between DT and SC score. And add to the above list ginger Jacobs who has been quite a revelation (and a relief for an Adelaide supporter sick of watching Maric spud it up).

  8. I held on to Sandi and Jamar for too long when they were both injured. Eventually got Cox and McEvoy but the damage was done. Lesson learned for next year.

  9. I’m thinking with a pre-season behind him, Matty Kreuzer has to be a great Ruck option and I like Max Gawn as a bench option. Maybe Rhys Stanley will be ready to bloom next year as well.

  11. Just missed out on the Mummy train – waited one week too long and he had gone up too much for me to get him.

Had Cox and Sandi from start. Traded Sandi down to cheap ruckman and used Z Smith and Petrie rotating. Worked well to start but then with Smith getting worse and worse have used Petrie. Who had been good except for the last couple of weeks. Still not sure how Roos can beat Freo by 100 points and he scores a paultry 36. Hope he picks up this week!

On a side note – where are the league ladders Mottsy?? last year was great having it each week. this year been nothing. maybe one post about it…SCT1, SCT2 and even SCT3?? and also the LeOC??
