Motts Movers R3 – The Backs

Written by Motts on April 14 2010

These fellas were all above $500k when the season began but because of one crappy outing they’ve all dropped huge amounts. Keep an eye on them.

Ryan Hargrave ($447,700, 52.67) – Dropped the 5th highest amount of cash in the league last week ($66,500) mostly because of a 9 due to an early injury in the game against the Hawks. Will continue to bleed cash until that 9 is no longer counted towards his breakeven in a couple of weeks so keep an eye on him. Could be one of the backline bargains of the year.

Nathan Bock ($483,700, 71.33) – His problems seem symptomatic of the problems faced by the rest of the Cows right now. Had a 50 against Melbourne who won so you can’t argue he didn’t see enough of it. Prior to that had a 92 and a 72. He’s already a bargain at this price but I reckon give it a couple more weeks before drafting him in.

Chris Newman ($480,700, 72.00) – Normally this bomber is super reliable premium averaging 100 a week. His big problem was a 16 against The Baggers in R1 because since then he’s scored 128 and 72. If you’re looking for a backline trade and you REALLY like the Tigers then I reckon this is the week to get on him.

I don’t need to tell you this but the ones who are starring are:

Nick Freaking Malceski ($367,300, 127.00) – Damn I wish I had this guy. I wish I had him to the point that I’m bitter about it. I refuse to bring him in now out of pride. That and because he’s just gone up $93,800 and I know I shoulda paid less for him. Faces North (A), WC (H) and Brisbane (H) over the next 3 weeks so its not likely that he’s going to go backwards much. Maybe he’ll do his knee again…

Luke Hodge ($519,300, 123.67) – We all knew he was undervalued when the season started and he’s proved it to us. We all gained $33,700 with him in our team last week. The guy just throws himself into everything. He’s absolutely fearless. He’s kicked a goal in every game he’s played so far and even with the pink pig on him he managed a 94. Upcoming opponents include Collingwood, North and the Dons.

Heath Grundy ($422,000, 112.00) – What a start to the year for Reg. Has just got better and better with a 73, a 126 and last week a 137 which saw his price rise close to $50k. With the same 3 games coming up as The Eski he’s going to continue to rise.

Is there anyone I’ve missed?

  2. Gday Motts. i feel the bitterness for malceski too there pal. same feeling i got last year with gilbert. does it matter that he’s up $93K as a reason to not get him now though? if the prices didn’t go up until Rd 4, and malceski’s starting price was $367K, you’d grab him this week, true. i guess the concern if he does go down its 2 wasted trades, 1 to get him in, 1 to get him out again, rather than one to get him out if you had him from the get-go. those of us that didn’t start him we all deterred by that very thing, injury recurrence. I have bock, with josh hunt on the pine as cover.(maguire took his spot on the ground). should i hold on to the big fella. he is a gun after all. have enright, hodge, duffield, kennelly, waters, nason (bock, hunt, goose)

  3. Not sure where all the injury prone stuff came from with Malcheski. Last year he wasnt injured at all. He was dropped for poor form/confidence. He looked scared out on the field. I watched him play a reserves game and he was the same even at that level. Totally different this year.

  4. I feel the Malceski pain/bitterness to Motts due to the fact he burnt me last year when I jumped on and he went like a crippled crab so I was dead against getting him this year… but hey you can’t get them all right!

  8. I had Hunt in my back-line all preseason and was tossing up who to put in out of Kennelly and Malceski, as they both play a similar role and were both trying to push back into the team. In the end went with Kennelly coz he wasn’t coming off new radical knee treatment basically. Anyway, bout 10 minutes till final lockout changed hunt for malceski for some unknown reason and I know you shouldn’t make those last second trades but i couldn’t help it. But how lucky was that? So far…
