Motts Movers R3, 2012 – The Mids

by Motts on April 18, 2012

Premiums

Gary Ablett ($708,000, 154.7, 93) – Who knew his 2012 starting price this year ($689k) was cheap? If you don’t have him, do whatever you need to do this week to pick him up. He is the one true perma-captain and you’ll get burnt if your opponent has him and you don’t. Next 3 opponents: Brisbane, NM, Freo (home).

Marc Murphy ($642,100, 132.0, 102) – Has started the year like a bull at a gate. Not a bad run coming up either with Essendon, Freo (away) and GWS. Followed by St Kilda, Adelaide (home), Melbourne, and Port (away).

Joel Selwood ($600,400, 122.7, 104) – Got the nod over a number of his contemporaries on the basis of his price, the opponents he’s scored that average against (Freo [away], Hawthorn and North) and his next 3 opponents: Richmond, Brisbane and Melbourne.

Lots of others I could’ve mentioned. FYI Scott Pendlebury has a BE of 206 – this week is NOT the week to bring him in.

Midpricers

Scott Selwood ($503,800, 134.7, -3) – He’s done it against some pretty easy opposition (Dogs, Melbourne and GWS) but you can’t argue with that average. And an injury to Bradd Dalziell could actually improve his scores. Either that or open the door for Koby Stevens (played his first game last week and scored a delectable 81). Next 3 opponents: Hawthorn, Richmond & North Melbourne.

Chris Masten ($376,300, 113, -37 ) – OK so his first game against the Dogs was nothing special (80) and he’s faced two easy opponents after that (Melb and GWS) but that average for that price means he gets a mention. Next 3 opponents: same as Scotty.

Brad Ebert ($391,400, 105.7, 25) – Got the nod over David Armitage because the quality of the opposition he’s faced (St Kilda, Essendon and Sydney) has been relatively tougher. Next 3: Collingwood, Adelaide, Richmond.

There’s always so many more that miss out on my top 3 picks. Coming in very close were Liam Anthony, Andrew Gaff, Rory Sloane, and Tendai!

FYI Keep an eye on Jack Ziebell ($428,500) this week – scored 132 in his first game for the year last week.

Value Picks

Lewis Jetta ($285,400, 87.3, 10)

Toby Greene ($206,300, 75, -18)

Dylan Shiel ($160,200, 58.7, -47)

Everyone knows about James Magner so I’ve skipped over him. He’d be at the top of the list otherwise. Other M/F DPP’s were named in The Forwards edition.

Good to see two eagles and a former eagle made up all your midpricers, brought in Scotty last week into my SCTTL team and was very happy, am actually thinking of fyfe to masten this week but will more than likely hold him or switch to trealor.

On a side note I saw the headline ‘Is Ablett Unstoppable?’ on Afl.com.au and read a whole article on if hevis or isn’t, I could of save them an article by just sayin YES!

You look like you have a very solid midfield there. Hold off Pendles for now until 2-3 weeks and then jump on him. But for now, worry about the other positions, there’s certainly nothing wrong with your midfield!

How’s about Michael Barlow.

He has been vested twice and still avg 83. His points per minute is around 1.1 which is among the very elite in the game. He has dropped down to 440k and his break even of 94 so this is prob the cheapest you will get him.

I brought in Pendlebury last week since he was performing,
I was in the logic that if he scored another 130+, he’d rise still.
Now I have to bite the bullet…

ffgenie is pretty good as well…

If you want SC Gold stats, basically they predict him to bottom out after next round against Port at 613.7k heading into the ANZAC day match.

They have a BE at 206 for him this week and projected him to score 128… so it depends on how much faith you have in SC gold.

FFgenie has him bottoming out under 600k and settling around the $580k mark in the next 2-3 rounds if he maintains his 119 average.

You could probably wait 1 if not 2 more rounds before adding him and you should get a great bargain.

Hope it helps!

Ablett was pretty clearly underpriced at the start of this year, given he didn’t have a preseason last year and took half the season to get going. If you take out his injury affected score of 19, his average was 142SC points for the second half of the season – not bad for someone priced at an average of 128SC points this year.

Pretty sure Dalziel being injured wont improve Scott Selwood’s scores – Dalziel wasn’t in the team when Selwood made his first two week’s worth of scores, and only played part of the game when Selwood made his 3rd score, so Selwood’s current average pretty much assumes no Dalziel in the team.

If you’re prepared to take a risk with the midpricers, Barlow and Hayes (both injury concerns) are also great value for their proven potential …

yeah motts is right, dalziel will not have an effect on selwood, he only came in for the game against GWS because Priddis & Rosa are ‘injured’. He’s only played a handful of games in his few seasons at west coast, every now and then he is called up but is not in the eagles best squad

Martin historically averages 80 in losses and 100 in wins so with the Tiger’s difficult first six Rds he was always likely to bleed badly. I have been lucky enough to have had a win from this strategy and will upgrade to him when he bottoms out at the same time Kennedy hits his BE.
If I had him from the start I would stick with him now as he will come good.

Made several posts to this affect during the PS mate but the Dusty bandwagon was off and gone! (Not trying to be a Monday’s expert on this!)

Interestingly with Lids though it is the opposite. He averages 110 in losses and 100 in wins.

Nathan Fyfe. Definitely the biggest issue this week is; what to do with him?
Theres 4 main options.

1) Swap for someone of similar value.
This would be the most travelled path us supercoachers would be taking. With the risk that it could pop out at any time, it simply makes sense. The only problem is, who for?
Every candidate has a potential risk. Roughead with his achilles, N.Roo with his knee, Boomer with his age, Sidebottom (and Zaharakis for that matter) with his lack of experience and Cyril with his hammies. Don’t forget Pav, Stevie J and Chapman, who are all out of form. Do we take the punt? Trade out Fyfe with the risk of his shoulder for someone else with a risk? Due to the lack of quality options, i’d steer clear.

2) Downgrade to a rookie. This option certainly looks appealing, I mean, Treloar was one of the most hyped up GWS rookies. Only problem was he didn’t make the round 1 line up. This certainly looks appealing. So whats the problem?
Goodes. Many of us have him, and his failure to learn from rough conduct 7 weeks ago presents us with a dilemma. With him on the bench, can we afford to lose Fyfe, a fellow star, for another rookie? Can we bank on Premiums such as Franklin to carry our forward line?

3) Bring Fyfe into the midfield and upgrade him to a star. To any teams with a quality DPP in the midfield, i would highly recommend this option. Upgrading Fyfe to Dal Santo sure does sound appealing ! For the rest of us, this option certainly isn’t ideal, as again, we lose some serious forward firepower.

4) Leave him ! Despite knowing Fyfe’s shoulder could pop out at any time, this definitely looks the goods to me. Why, you might ask?
If we look back to season 2011, we find that Fyfe’s 108 averaging year was riddled with partial shoulder dislocations.
http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/pg-fremantle-dockers–nathan-fyfe?year=2011&fantasy=y
If we have a look at the statistics, Fyfe scored below 80 thrice, and under 100 6 times, despite being having constant queries about his shoulder.
Freo surely wouldn’t risk the long term safety of perhaps their brightest young player would they?
Despite looking the ideal sub candidate for Friday, us supercoachers will have an hour and a half notice in advance to make a decision !
All the other options present a risk, surely keeping him and saving a trade is the most logical option at the moment!

does anyone know how break evens are calculated, and if they are just given weekly estimates to meet, or if it’s cumulative (if a player misses his break even one week by x amount, his next week break even increases by x amount) cause i don’t see how a player can get a break even of over 200.

But Freo’s first three Subs (Barlow twice and Mundy once) were due directly to their lack of a pre-season and hence match fitness. Fyfe has the appropriate match fitness, so what would be the point of subbing him ? His shoulder is not an “overuse” injury risk like Barlow’s leg …

Not sure how much you got to see last year Socks but it was when Roughy went into that second ruck role that his scores exploded and he was consistent too. It’s not necessarily his rucking ability (although his strength and leap makes him more than competitive at the hit-outs) but his mobility around the ground and second efforts at stoppages that get him the SC points. He will score better and much more consistently if he can maintain that role than he will if he plays as a pure forward.

After an 80 odd in his first hit-out after twelve months and a 120 last week he looks the goods. I was at the game last week and he is moving very very well.

From the look of the poll he could be a pretty handy POD as well.

Carey for mine (and I say despite him being my all-time most hated player too). Hird had the overall game but I have never been more worried about one player than Wankery.

He could single handedly take games by the scruff of the neck more than anyone I’ve seen. He would then beat the game up, have a few lines and sleep with the game’s wife :)

Unfortunately JYM, now and again some people troll through this site with several pseudenoms in an attempt to practice their weird, twisted form of humour which is interpreted by most as childish, imbecilic trash that has at times developed into abuse as GG experienced a couple of weeks ago.
The Mods of this site have, as is their perogative, practiced a very liberal policy with regard to disciplining such miscreants as the numerous regular, long term supporters of the site (in this case PA and I) have been successful in rehabilitating them or respectfully encouraging them to practice their wares elsewhere.
Of course, everyone is entitled to a second chance. In order to gain some context, I suggest you look through the “R3 is underway/R3 wrap” threads of Sun/Mon to assist in making a balanced assessment.
Whilst I am wavering on the precepice of over-dramatism, I offer the Edmund Burke “Triumph of Evil” quote in support of this assertion.

No one wants this site to fall into the depths of DTTalk in this manner.

I think its clear that you have demonstrated at times you can add valuable content to the SC debate and I look forward to that discourse.

Since we are on less hostile terms, I do have a question for you… Given Luke Dahlhauses easy run coming up would you consider him for fyfe? At the moment I have two courses of action I can’t decide between.

option one: Trade fyfe into the mids and do a direct swap for Barlow (leaving the forward line a bit softer than i’d like)

option two: Trade fyfe to dahlhause leaving me roughly 200k in the bank to help fun the upcoming pendlebury trade in. (I can see me having to burn more trades to upgrade dahlhause later on to a premium.)

My options on Fyfe are:
- keep if he plays (looking most likely as trades are gold and he played with it like this last year);
- MPP and trade to Barlow;
- if he’s out, keep for a week and trade to Chappy/SJ when they bottom out.
Under no circumstances will I consider trading to a midpricer such as Sidey, Danger of Dollhouse as this is a backward trade.

In SCTTL I am taking a punt and trading Fyfe>Roughhead, Mumford>Stephenson and banking enough to get Pendles from Conigs in two weeks when they reach their BEs.

mm… are you gonna start him if he’s playing or bench him?

He’ll play for me. There’s no way Rossy will put the vest on him unless he breaks down and gets red.

@Softsocks Why would you bench Fyfe if you keep him in your team ?? If you decide to keep him you play him as he is a Premium. If you were going to bench him for some bizarre reason, why not just trade him out and be done with it before his price drops more ?

The two trades options ive got this week is -
Thumbs Up:
Adam Goodes – Travis Cloke (playing Port)
A.Saad – A.Kennedy (playing the Crows)
Or
Thumbs Down:
Adam Goodes/Steve Johnson – Nick Riewoldt (playing Freo)
Greg Broughton/Heath Shaw – Andrew Carrots (playing Essendon)
If Thumbs Down which of the above gets traded??

Don’t think Barlow will get much cheaper than $440k, but the rookies haven’t MOOOOed enough yet. Hoping he doesn’t get into the 500s too soon

you can do much better than that, if you’re trading both fyfe and martin.

Looks pretty good to me and If he’s named I’ll be sticking with him.

Can’t wait to have a look at Hill. Don’t know that he will keep his spot and be fantasy relevant though.

Got a feeling this might be the Hawks’ way of helping the kid settle in. First game in front of family and friends back at home will be a big boost for him. Not saying he doesn’t deserve the spot though as he has been named on the extended bench at least twice already.

considering fyfe situation and in a worse case scenario he does his shoulder again would you consider doing this trade

fyfe- ->M Murphy

i no i tried to squeez him in at the beggining but went a little bit more unique in the mids with shuey.

i have found away to keep both fyfe and murphy

trade K Jack –> Murphy
Newman –> Trelor/simpkin/geary (trelor would move forward after swinging smedts to backline)
thoughts?

I got laughed off by my mates for having Ziebell warming the bench in the first 2 rounds but oh what joy it was watching him carve up Geelong last weekend. He is a gun. Anyone else worried by Fyfe or back him in?
