OK by now everyone knows about James Podsiadly. Big Sexy’s mentioned him, Duck mentioned him months ago and then reminded us that he did today, he’s been in the papers, on the Monday night talkies, Christ you’d think he knocked off Carl Williams. So I’m not going to mention him again but if you need a forward this week, GET PODS!
The blokes you should be looking to trade for him if you have them are:
T Lockyer ($420,300, 67.5) – Was very good last year – I know because I had him. Finished the season with a 93 average. Has virtually dropped $38k 2 weeks in a row. Is it time to stick a fork in him?
T Hawkins ($323,800, 58.0) – This spot could have been taken by either Tommy or Tippy. Tomahawk got it because of the uncertainty in this punter’s mind of his future at Geelong now that J-Pod is up and about in the forward line.
M Hahn ($357,700, 60.75) – We never expected too much from Mitch but his price was calculated on last season’s 73 average. The 33 he scored up north last week dropped his price another $22k. If you’re on him, get off now!
Tippett (again!), Gumbleton, Ballantyne, M Williams, L Brown and Porplyzia all came into consideration for this section this week.
The blokes you should be hanging onto for dear life:
R Houlihan ($450,500, 104.0) – I refute all allegations of favouritism here because he has the 5th highest average of all Forwards right now. The names in front of him are Brown, Chapman, O’Keefe, and Pavlich. Fair old company to be in. Shocking month ahead though with the Cats, Pies and Saints to come.
D Thomas ($435,300, 100.25) – I scoffed when I saw him in Richo’s team at the start of the year. I mean, after all, he’s always promised so much and delivered so little. Well, he’s like my local Thai place these days, baby: delivering on a weekly basis. Last week’s 132 was brilliant. Wish I’d seen it. Was at the game but with all the free drinks Bobcat was pouring down my throat I got a little boisterous. Not angry boisterous. Fun boisterous. Either way I wasn’t watching the footy. His next 3 games are all at the G against Essendon, Carlton and North. Expect to see that average rise.
Eddie Betts ($415,700, 96.5) – Carlton’s 4th highest goalkicker has managed 6.11 in the first four rounds – can you imagine what he’d be scoring if he was just able to convert a couple more of those goals? Has missed the ton just once so far this year which means at this price that you have to consider him (although admittedly he does have a tough few rounds coming up).
Other players I thought were great this week were Chapman, Pav, and Brennan. If you’ve already got Pods, get on Rockliff.

Currently hurting from the ‘double burn’ effect of last year having Betts and Thomas, and then avoiding them this time round.

And I’ve just inflamed things by naming both of them in this post.

Are we all agreed that both Pods and Rockliff are equally safe bets to play enough games and score enough points? I have neither yet (damn) but I’m not going to use 2 trades to get BOTH of them. Can anyone argue for any difference between them?

I’m gonna put a poll up about that Mike. Great idea! Personally, I’d take Rockliff on the basis that he plays in the guts but I’d like to know what other people think.

I’m in the same boat, but happy with Peterson and Duncan. Will use a trade to downgrade to Rocky and free up mid cash for mid as I believe he has considerably more upside even though job security might be in JPOD’s favour (although I wonder how he goes when other teams work out his style and put more emphasis on stopping him). I’ve just got this rational (I think) voice at the back of my mind saying there is a good reason why 16 clubs didn’t draft a bloke for ten years – the fairytale is bound to end IMO.

same boat for me…. happy with Pieterson and Duncan, Hithchcock is looking Shaky, but I still have Moore from Rnd 1…… but only wanting to use one trade…. so unlesss one of my boyz gets dropped, or Moore gets a run, I’ll look to trade Moore for Pods or Rocky…. leaning towards Rocky.

Murph’s score of 19 puts him in the gun this week, he’s only saving grace was his 130 against the Maggies in round 1. In he’s last 3 games he has only managed 58 ppg, quite disappointing for my liking and it’s going to be a toss up between him and Hally for my Rocky trade.

Question: is Ballantyne for Pods a must-trade this week?

PS if I had done that last week, I would have smashed the chick in my secondary league who beat me by 23 points
yeah, I’m a little bitter, and not exactly the smartest thing I ever wrote… ‘ummm like….if I’d made this perfect trade last week, I would have got like a higher score’

With $240k in the kitty already and a fair few DPPs, I’ve got a plethora of options like:
- Hunt for any premium mid (incl GAJ) or back
- Shuey for a premium mid (or FWD, but prolly Murphy now or Judd next week)
- Walker for any premium FWD (prolly Chappy)
At this stage, I’d prolly sit on the trade and hope (1) Judd keeps cooking the hotsauce making the Shuey/Judd trade a no brainer or (2) Trengove or Martin go up enough to gimme GAJ for one of them (need roughly 10k from Martin on GAJ’s current price – if that doesn’t happen the Hunt trade will still be there as an option).
Also gives me a chance to see if Walker finally proves himself (but man he just isn’t hard at it this year if you ask me) and whether Shuey is named in the next couple of rounds.

I know that Rocky and PODS are the latest fad (given this week’s pricew increase) however I’d still like them to have some decent length of tenure before comparing them to Peterson and Duncan who’ve shown scoring ability over four rounds. What does everyone think about the four’s job stability???

Duncan = locked in on last 3 weeks…….
Rocky = lots of ball and probably locked in..especially with Black and Power niggles…
PODS = Bomber quoted pre-season that he would play “10 to 12″ games…hence i left him out…….. but i reckon he is a lock if he keeps going as is…….will play next 3 at least, as next 2 will be EASY for him…… = CASH COW..!!
Peterson = I’m not convinced yet.bit upsy daisy……. but got that ‘can jump’ aspect to him..which is scarce at Hawks at present…….
FYI – I have Duncan and Peterson, and will trade one of the others in this week………
