Motts Movers R4 – The Backs

Written by Motts on April 20 2011

The Beatles

Dyson Heppell ($267,500, 91.5, -13) – Almost 200,000 coaches have D-Hep in their team so if you’re one of the ones that are a little slow on the uptake, get on him now. He’s one of them handy DPP’s, even though he has a tough game this week his price will go up even further, and he has a very becoming blond mop. There’s only one problem with him: he won’t play in the Grand Final for you meaning that eventually you’re going to have to trade him. Until then though, enjoy the ride!

Heath Scotland ($463,600, 105.5, 82) – I confess, I was one of the ones who wrote Heath off at the beginning of this year. At 31 and in his 12th year of AFL footy it was hard not to. But the guy has shown year after year that he has what it takes to compete in the upper echelons of this league. He hasn’t averaged less than 93 since 2006 and has only missed 10 games over that period (6 of which were in 2009).  Scored 133 on the weekend. Gun. On a related note, I met his wife Alisha at a party the night the Blues played the Suns and she was a ripper.

Dustin Fletcher ($432,400, 92.75, 65) – And while we’re on the topic of old men, it would be remiss of me not to mention Inspector Gadget. This guy is one of those freaks in the mold of Tuck, Harvey and Bradley who just keeps on and on and on. 18 seasons in the league and hasn’t averaged less than 85 in a year since SC began. Over 6 and a bit seasons he’s averaged 97.4. Why isn’t he in more than 15,695 teams? His chasedown of one of the fastest men in the game, Jeffy Garlett, was inspirational in a game when he also managed to dob a goal. Does it all and deserves all the props he gets. Respect.

Honourable mentions: Corey Enright, Chris Newman, Nick Duigan, Matthew Scarlett (WTF?), Ben Rutten (again, WTF?), and David Wojcinski.

The Stones

Harry Taylor ($336,500, 64.75, 152) – Sucked 15,695 coaches in with a stellar 2011 preseason when he averaged 120 in 2 games and then opened up with a 142 against the Saints but since then has done nothing scoring 41, 32 and 44. If you’d traded him in after R1 you’d be howling.

Graham Johncock ($435,000, 62.33, 149) – Almost 13,000 people expected more than a 62 average from Stiffy when they stumped up close to $500k at the beginning of the season. 10 seasons at the highest level catching up with him?

Cameron Bruce ($398,100, 62.25, 175) – After a 60 in R4 I had to name Brucey again. Will drop more in value this week. At some point he’s gonna be too attractive to pass over.

Note to Nathan Lovett-Murray – well done on responding with a 99 after I put the heat on you last week.

  5. Nice of you to give Kepler a nice mention in Fletcher’s write up after your scathing criticism last week Motts.

You can be a real charmer when you want to be.

  8. Looking for someone to swap in for Coad? Give some thought to Watson from The Blues if he gets a game this week. $103k and with a -58 BE. Tasty.

  9. I would bring him in – but already have gibbs and the little piece of skin between by sack and crack (Duigan).

But maybe a downgrade option next week for said bit of skin?

  10. yeah, i was considering bringing him straight in for coad then realised i would have him, gibbs and duigan in backs, and curnow in mids… seems too many of one team for my liking.

who would of thought so many people would be tossing up who of many carlton players to be choosing from! 😛 (essendon supporter :P)

  11. I already traded out Johncock for Murphy this morning, so very gratified that I’m not alone in my assessments.

Rob Murphy is a good pick because of his current role at the Dogs: Setting up attacks from the backline and providing movement through the ground. Add that to his silky skills and a good preseason and… I’m on him!

If he does a knee now I’ll cry.

  12. My favourite aspect of this thread is the correct usage of The Beatles and The Rolling Bones as headings.
