Motts Movers R5 – The Backs

Written by Motts on April 29 2013

I’m travelling to Sydney on business this week – yes, I do have a ‘real’ job – and I’m out at dinner tonight so I’m going to need some help with The Movers.

If the mood takes you, give me 1 Premium (>$500k), 1 Midpricer ($200k-$500k) and 1 rookie (<$200k) backman. Try to make them different to previous nominations if you can. Thanks for your help!

  1. El Greco’s Movers – Round 5 – I think it’s got a better ring to it Motts 😉

Premium: Grant Birchall ($566,200, 118, 85) – The lad from Tassie’s having a scorcher of a season to date, and despite his poor (by his standards) 80 against a dominant North, he’s still got at least one last price rise in him until the 152 is out of his system. An absolute lock in defence, and in all likelihood will end up being the highest scoring defender this year. His next 3 – Adelaide (AAMI), Sydney (MCG) and GWS (Aurora) – don’t exactly beg for investment, although i warn you to ignore him at your own peril…

Midpricer: Charlie Dixon ($477,600, 115, 22) – A big pat on the back to anyone who picked him up at the start of the season, and kudos to anyone who picked him up before his price rise, you’ve made approx. 80K on him already, and are set for more price rises! Dixon went bananas on the weekend, finishing with 142 against GWS. He has a favourable next 3 – Freo (Metricon), Melbourne (MCG) and Bulldogs (Metricon); if you plan on getting him into your side this is the week to do it. Question marks over his season-long consistency, though he should finish up with an average of at least 100. Picked him over Heater simply due to his POD-factor; Shaw’s inconsistency can be frustrating.

Rookie: Sam Docherty ($115,900, 54, -45) – Aren’t the rookies looking thin this week? Docherty had a scorcher in his first game, scoring 86 in a team that got demolished by North Melbourne, and followed it up with a sub-effected 23 in a quarter of game time. Not that there’s much competition with rookies this week, the former pick #12 looks like he can play, although a returning Pearce Hanley may force him out of the side. Next 3 doesn’t look like fun – Sydney (SCG), West Coast (Gabba), Essendon (Etihad) – and with the 23 in his rolling average for the next couple weeks, he won’t make you a truckload of cash anytime soon. I would wait until the announcement of the teams.

  2. My brief nomination is for HARRY “swingman” TAYLOR. 103, 125 and 138. He looks unstoppable!

My midpricer is CHRIS YARRAN who has averaged 101 over his last three.

And the basement bargain is RORY LAIRD. On the bubble with two scores of 44 and 69. Who knows what he can do in a full game.

  3. Special mention for Lewis Stevenson.

Just when the naysayers were shipping him off to the slaughterhouse, he delivers a $30k increase, -2 BE and increased JS on the back of an 87!

  5. yep i flucked this week , paying the price now. Not havind a def/ mid link in the midfield has now forced my hand to scramble this week . The problem i have in the back line is gibbs out for 1 to 2 weeks , goodes out for 2 weeks , and doubts on luke brown and pittard so if i trade this week it most likely going to be luke brown .
