Motts Movers R6 – The Forwards

Written by Motts on May 4 2011

Thrillers

Brent Harvey ($493,700, 129, 107.20, 90) – Remember last year when he scored 110 in the first game of the year and then 11 in his second at which point about 90% of the coaches who had him jumped off thinking his tired, old legs wouldn’t see him out another year? Over the next three weeks he slammed on 176, 109 and 110. Bit of déjà vu about 2011: he scored 64 in his first game of the year which I’m sure lead to more than few people trading him out again and since then has put up 102, 116, 125 and 129. Mercurial gun. Never doubt him.

Jared Brennan ($402,600, 100, 86.6, 66) – We all know the queries that have been raised in the past regarding Brennan’s consistency but we also know how a change of club can prove the world of difference to some players. Jared’s first game for the year was a stinker – 18 – since then he has amassed scores of 114, 86, 115 and 100. He’s only gone up $23k for the year on account of that poor first game. And you know he’ll get a run every week playing for the Suns. Anyone looking for a straight swap for Higgins?

Robin Nahas ($328,900, 149, 80.5, -19) – Its either hot or cold with Na-has (I can’t help but think of Nelson from the Simpsons whenever I hear his name). In the 6 games he’s played so far this year he’s scored at one end of the spectrum a 48, a 58 and a 25 (he got subbed at ¾ time). At the other end is a 104, a 99, and a spectacular 149. I reckon you’d be taking your chances if you recruited him but for $328k he’s kinda tempting.

Honourable mentions: Kyle Hardingham, Patrick Dangerfield and Leroy Jetta

Chillers

Jarrad Waite ($382,000, 49, 74.17, 120)

Brad Green ($370,200, 48, 72.8, 129)

Sam Gilbert ($373,500, 44, 73.8, 129)

Drillers

Jack Darling ($262,300, 100, 84.0, -16) – I brought him in last week at $214k and couldn’t be happier with the ton he posted. I still reckon he’s pretty cheap for the dominant type of player I expect him to become. Last chance.

Jack Riewoldt ($386,000, 109, 82.83, 24) – Opened the season with a 122, then had 3 bad weeks and over the last two has scored 136 and 109. If you missed him last week, you’ll be paying an extra $23k this week. With a 24 BE he’s not going to last long under $400k.

Kurt Tippett ($334,800, 102, 76.50, 46) – I know some of you will be shuddering right now just at the mention of Kurt’s name after last season’s debacle but the pack marks he was taking and the ba-na-na kicks he was making last Saturday night have made me think twice about him. Since starting his season in R3 he’s just got better and better with scores of 49, 70, 85 and then 102 against the Saints last week. Watch him this week and see if he makes me look like a clown (again).

Special mentions: Setanta O’Hailpin (1 game wonder?), Chris Knights and Andrew Krakouer.

  1. As a North supporter i feel truly blessed to have been able to watch Boomer Harvey’s career in it’s entirety. Due to North’s low supporter base and up and down form over the last decade we are not on free to air TV as much as the Collingwood’s, Carlton’s, Essendon’s and Hawthorn’s. Therefore, non-North supporters just see bits and pieces of what Boomer can do. A genuine A grader with so much ticker and love for his footy club. He’s uber-consistent and has been a star since his coming of age winning the last real EJ Whitten Medal in ’99 at a soggy MCG. Whether he will or not i’m not too sure but there is no reason why he should retire at the end of the season and should play next year. It will be a sad day when he retires for North supporters as he is our last link to the 90’s premiership successes.

    Love your work Boomer

  2. Don’t be fooled by Brennan’s good form. He will burn you the first opportunity he gets. Who among us will be caught in his web of deceit?

  3. Are you suggesting that we should all move on from Higgins Motts? He is listed as test in the IL but didn’t he have problems with his groin last year?

I can always upgrade him to Fyfe or Chappy.

  4. If higgins doesnt play this week (very likely), then I will be copping a doughnut. Rioli, Richardson and Krak (no mpp) the other offenders.

Should I cull him and bring in Chappy/Jroo?

  5. JackaRoo wouldn’t be a bad trade mousey, just gotta ride the bumps. Maybe wait a week or two. I have cover so im holding off for now. Things I’d be considering are can I beat my opponent this week with 21? Can I afford to lose this round? How many trades left? Will JRoo be in my finals team? How many games will Missy miss…?

  9. Love your movers articles Motts..

after reading this one and the comments I have got myself all confused on which option would be best..

Have dollars in the bank to upgrade a rook to a premium.

    Orignal plan
    Option 1

    Matera – Chapman

    Option 2 –
    Otten – Hibbered/Jacobs/ Popu(Hawthorn bloke)
    Richardson – Chapman

Now after reading the posts thinking

    Option 3

    Richardson – Harvey

    Option 4

    Prestia – Mitchell

Which way would the great minds of this website go?

  12. Not that anyone on your team team having an injury is a good thing but this gives me a chance to put Swallow/Harris on the field, I hate them scoring 80s on my bench and their score not contributing to my overall score, it just makes my selection easier.

  13. We should have registered a Supercoachtalk team and each week have a vote on who to trade… would provide some entertainment while our own teams stink it up. $50,000 divided by about 100 coaches = $500 each 🙂

  14. Opinions please.
This is the trade I am thinking of making this week.
    Duigan -> Puopolo
    D Swallow to Mundy.

Would like to go Priddis but just fall short.

This saves a trade of Higgins and still gives me another premium on the field if he doesn’t come up and goes on LTI I can then trade him and someone to get Swan next week.

    Current team is as follows.

Gibbs, Goddard, Broughton, Grimes, Heppell, Lower Thompson (Duigan, Stanley, Toy)
Pendles, Boyd, Joelwood, Higgins, Curnow, D Swallow (Harris, Libba, Atley)
    Sandi, Cox (Smith, J Tippet)
Pav, Franklin, N Roo, Goodes, Stevie J, J Roo, Krak (Petrie, Tappy, Matera)

  17. Is Yarran a must trade this week? He is averaging 81.4 and has a BE of 109.

  19. There’s no really compelling downgrade targets this week, so I’m thinking of a high risk strategy:

Trading out an over-inflated Swan at 586K for Scott Thompson at 492K, and then Curnow can become Chappy, who’ll I will switch with Higgins to complete my forward line.

Thompson has an average of 118 – with an easy run to come: the likes of melbourene, gold coast, brisbane, north melbourne, west coast – and could go 120+ for the next few weeks… while Swan misses 2 out of the next 7 rounds…

Swan has a BE of 180 next week and shuld tank 30K to around to 550K after his next game against the cats.

Next week I can downgrade Duigan to a rookie (after seeing Hibberd/Puopolo play)… and then the following week I can get Swan back again cheaply by upgrading Higgins (or Swallow/Harris who’ll be fatter after 2 more games…. )

It basically means get I Chappy and Thompson on the ground this week (I’m still going for overall) but it will cost me 4 trades in all (to regain Swan…

The main risk is if Swan gets 150++ against the cats next week, and i miss out his captains points. This is unlikely – his last game was 104, most teams are a little slow after the bye, and there will be massive competition for Champion SC points in that particular game… (Selwood, Pendles, Chappy, Enright, etc)

It’s more likely that i’ll make $$ while hopoing thatThompson cuts sick…

  22. Hey guys your thoughts would be great,
Ive got a 2 week trading plan, obviously i will wait until teams but just so i can plan ahead, are these good trades?

    THIS WEEK:

    David Swallow-Sam Illes
I think that Sam will improve and i can pocket the 200k and use it next week. I also dont think i should have more that 2 suns when coming to their round 9 bye.

    Andrew Krakouer – Mitch Wallis
Since Krakouer has his bye and Wallis will only get better, Why not pocket 170k

    NEXT WEEK

    Curnow- Pendlebury
Pendlebury will have had his first bye and Curnow will have his bye in round 8 so i can cash him in for about 370k. I also dont think Curnow needs to be held for much longer because Ratten was saying he will need to rest come midyear.

Libba- Nick Dal Santo, Matt Priddis or Scott Tompson
Libba will be at 300 k and i will pick one of those three guys as HALF PODS.

I am not getting rid of Duigan yet because there is no really good downgrade options with great JS except Tompson but he has gone up to much for my liking.

    GOOD TRADES- THUMBS UP

    BAD TRADES- THUMBS DOWN

    cheers guys 🙂

  23. Hi
Does anyone know the whereabouts of Dion Prestia from GC
He played rounds 2,3 and 4 , now hes dissapeared of my radar!!
    Is he injured or dropped????
His BE is 2 and hes a DPP so keen to keep for now if hes gonna play more.

    Thanks

  24. It’s an interesting debate. I think it depends on the structure of your team really. I think Joelwood is a must. Given the Cats bye in rd 22, I don’t think you can carry 3 cats into round 22 and beat quality opposition unless you have genuine Prems as cover on the bench or your team is so good you will have that week off. Therefore for me it comes down to Chappy’s scoring power and injury potential vs Enrights consistency. Remember that Cats also play GC twice = 2 more byes for Chappy?

Motts Movers R6 – The Forwards

Written by Motts on May 3 2010

Bit of a change up this week. Firstly I’m going to highlight the performances of players that haven’t yet played 3 games because I figure you want to know about them BEFORE their price changes. Secondly, lets celebrate the good before we rubbish the mediocre.

So lets kick it off with the great forward efforts from R6:

C Dawes ($260,300, 82.50) – Has only played 2 games so far but from what I saw of him against my boys at the G yesterday he’s going to be a handful for a lot of sides. If he could kick as straight as Jack Anthony, Anthony would never get another game. Had a 76 against us and an 89 against Essendon the week before. Don’t say I didn’t tell you about him.

T Varcoe ($370,400, 108.00) – Has only played the one game so far but racked up a ton in it. Gave a hell of a lot of scoring assists before finally kicking his own goal late in the game. Admittedly he played Richmond so his score is likely to look a little inflated but if he can keep that kind of scoring up you’d have to consider him.

D Bradshaw ($486,900, $+49,600 ($+71,200), 95.00) – Was there anyone else out there that was hoping he’d go to town on Brisbane on Saturday night? Has kicked 6,6, and 4 goals over the last 3 weeks to give him an average of 126 over that period. Seems to be fitting in quite nicely into the Swannies forward line. Back after R3 you could’ve gotten on him for $390k.

At the other end of the spectrum were these blokes:

J Roughead ($350,700, $-31,800 ($-70,900), 69.67) – Kicked 11 goals in the first 3 games and tickled 100 in R2 against Geelong with a 97 but since then has gone AWOL – no goals against the Dons and only 1 in each of the 2 games prior to that. Must be traded out now.

C Rioli ($386,500, $-43,900 ($-31,200), 76.20) – Why have you forsaken us, Cyril? So many showed faith by trading him in in R3 after a spectacular 4 goal, 140 point effort against the Dogs to see him score 77, 35 and 47 since then. If his groin is a problem can someone please give it a massage? 54,849 coaches would very much appreciate it.

L Davis ($439,300, $-43,300 ($-152,400), 74.17) – The problem with this guy was illustrated to all and sundry yesterday at the G. He snaffled the ball from a pack about 35 out from goal on a slight angle. Without another thought he turned blind and put it on the boot…only for it to sail across the face and go out on the full. ‘His radar’s off” said Grimmo sitting next to me. It sure is. Hasn’t kicked a goal over the last 2 weeks.

Feel free to add to either list.

  2. Every man and he’s dog was bagging Hargrave last week then he comes out and scores a 96, this week every wants him in their side. The same thing will happen to Murphs mark my words, he is too good of a player to be is such poor form, he’ll be notching up 100’s in no time.

    1. PA

Murph’s only season average over 71.5 in the last 4 years was 2008 @ 92.7 when he was the main hit up target who marked and kicked goals. Now he has to share with the 2 big boys and Acker, the competition has reduced his supply and he can’t get a sniff in the mids. Obviously, injury has impacted on past season scores however I think the odd ton here and there are a thing of the past.
Hargrave has durability and a current price affected by his Rd 3 – 9 pts.

      1. Disagree Deano, Muphs has the potential to notch up 100’s more often thanks to Hall’s presents in the forward line. He can become the mobile center half forward that takes the mark around 80m out ( if he ever holds on to one of them) but seems to me that he’s just not into at the moment.

He kicks to Handball ratio are one of the best in the business along with the effectiveness both on he’s left and right. If he can find some superglue to put on he’s hands to hold the bloody marks he drops and lay some more tackles on he’s SC score would benefit greatly.

My only concern is he might be carry an old injury that has flared up and we ( the public) have no idea about.

        1. You obviously see them more than me mate as they’re your boys so I bow to your judgement. I agree he could take up the role you say however from what i’ve seen, its Higgins, Eagleton, Gia, Acker playing that hit up role alongside Hahn at CHF.

          0

          0
          1. Acker and the bold eagle are on their last legs so they will be playing on one side of the ground and Muphs will be leading up on the other. As for HIggs and Gia they have more of a center role this year. Hahn is more of the tall forward pocket that has backmen questioning whether him or BBBH are the main target.

    2. I’m a big fan of the doggies and think the whole group will keep improving throughout this year. I have Murphy and am quite bullish about him. He had two ordinary weeks and an ordinary first quarter on fri night, but was pretty good after that. He’ll come good in my opinion.
That said, I may, or may not involve him in a swap for JB, or Pav. I’m still thinking, and selection is a few days away. Three people on another SC site have advised me to hold onto Rioli for now, and I am sure that a few people here would say the same thing. I am also thinking about a Varcoe, Dawes, P.Davis or Moore trade, but, all of these guys have their drawbacks, as well as their potential plusses.
In regard to Hargreave, I don’t disregard him, but, prefer Gilbee and Harbrow.

    1. For consistancy, probably Higgins.
Bradshaw is cheaper, but will the Swans dominate all year?
Murphy is pretty inconsistant. I almost took him at the start of the year, but am pretty glad I didn’t.

They have Richmond this week at AAMI and his goal kicking seems to have improved in the last couple of games.

  6. Just reed the HS article about Ottens, but there could bad some bad news for all you GAJ owners out there.

thompson also said that star Gary Ablett was no certainty to play this Sunday against the Swans at Skilled Stadium after missing last week with hamstring soreness.

He also said that Ablett fronted the leadership group to explain why he was out late at the Logies on Sunday night.

  7. Here is the report from the Geelong Advertiser. It has a different slant to the HS article.

“Thompson also said that star Gary Ablett was likely, but no certainty, to play this Sunday against the Swans at Skilled Stadium after missing last week with hamstring soreness.
Full back Matthew Scarlett must also complete the team’s main training session this week before being cleared to return from a back injury.
He also said that Ablett explained to the leadership group why he was out late at the Logies on Sunday night.”
