Motts Movers R17, 2013 – The Backs

Written by Motts on July 22 2013

Premiums

Scott D Thompson ($506,100, 99.38, 102) – SDT got a Movers guernsey last week and couldn’t be kept out after a 126 against The Blues. A great POD if you’re looking for uniqueness – he’s played every game and has 13 scores of 84 or more for 2013. He’s scored the 2nd most points for all Defenders behind BJ.

Corey Enright ($479,900, 94.27, 66) – Technically he’s not a premium given his price but I was struggling for numbers at the top so he’s scraped in. Enright is fantastically consistent. Has only missed one game for the year (excluding the bye) and every score has been between 76 and 116. With St Kilda, North and Port coming up in the next 3 weeks I couldn’t think of many better replacements for B Goodes.

Midpricers

Pearce Hanley ($463,100, 99.8, 67) – I snapped him up last week and was more than happy with his first game as a Mauler – 113, his third ton on the trot. Firing on all cylinders right now and I’m fully expecting another good showing out of him against Port in Adelaide this week. My one concern is his 42 against Geelong in R13 because Brisbane meets the Cats in the SC GF.

Brent Staker ($416,800, 87.56, 33) – Speaking of 3 tons on the trot, Stakes has also gone bananas recently – 110, 111, 114. Only has a BE of 33 but I reckon if you brought him in now you’d be paying overs. As much as I’ve loved his scores recently, I just don’t think he’ll be able to maintain the rage. More than happy to be proven wrong though.

Lachie Henderson ($449,100, 87.38, 41) – Another bloke I couldn’t not name after he belted out a 110 against the Roos. Another superb Goodes replacement if you have Staker in your forward line because he’s also a D/F DPP. Faces the Suns this week.

Ricky Henderson ($419,500, 82.55, -8) – 160 points on the weekend was the third highest score for the round behind you-know-who (178) and Jacky Steven (161). Due his score, he’s now the top scoring backman over the last 3 matches. And with a 101 in his 4th last match he’s probably leading over that time period as well. Another handy DPP swingman who’ll go Forward for you. Has Freo this week but after that faces Port, North, the Dogs and Melbourne before facing WC at Subi in the SC GF.

Rookies

I’ll give you two names here but neither are cheap and one is a week-to-week proposition at best:

Richard Tambling ($219,900, 56, -15) – No prizes for guessing which bloke is no guarantee to line up next week after only playing 2 games this year (in rounds 6 and 17). The upside is that he scored 75 on the weekend and is in only 1,480 teams (no doubt teams that were autopicked) if you’re after an elusive POD.

Mitch Clisby ($217,100, 64.4, -13) – Has now played 5 matches and had his highest score against the Lions on the weekend with a 77. North, GWS and GCS coming up.

  1. Great read as always Mottsy.
Thoughts on Trent Mckenzie? Been super consistent and faces GWS in the SC GF. Thinking about trading Brett Goodes to him

  2. I’m $800 from straight swapping Goodes – Enright. Kind of sums up my whole season. So near and yet so far.

McKenzie looks like the frontrunner if I were to bring someone in this week. I have cover with Staker swinging back, but with Bartel out up forward my resources are being stretched.

  3. Switching out B.Goodes, and just not sure who to choose:

    T/U Pearce Hanley
    T/D Scott Thompson

  4. I’m liking Enright at the moment. Backline has been a shambles all year and I love the thought of a consistent performer that I don’t have to worry about again. Has had a rest already and four of his last six games are at Kardinia.

  5. Gonna trade out Duffield …My Backs are already (Goddard, Hanley, Heppell, Shaw, Gibbs)

    Thumb Up (McKenzie)

    OR

    Thumb Down (S.Thompson)

  6. Anyone considering Jack Grimes Avg 99.6 before his injury. At 375k has to come into consideration in my opinion. Nth, GWS, GC, Freo (MCG), Adelaide, WBD Run home is pretty tempting too.

  7. Hmm for Goodes can afford S Thompson but im a tight a$$ as well so
    T/U Ibbotsen (easy finals run)
    or
T/D Enright (easy next few games then tougher finish)

Im thinking Enright wins in consistency but Ibbotsen has that draw in the finals period…then again an easy draw might hurt a defender who wont see much of the ball…

  8. I will probably see a barrage of thumb downs, and probably deservedly so, but anyone considering Hartlett for Goodes?

It would be a straight swap, reasonable finals run, and there aren’t too many established taggers in the teams he will be up against. I could then use the loophole with Staker.

    Thoughts?

  9. Hey guys got a buddy dilemma.
I’m not sure who to get for buddy and with my salary cap he will be at 491k when traded.
    Main candidates:
Seriously looking at n roo, pat ryder, and also jjk (though not too keen on him as I dropped him for d martin a few rounds ago)
    Outside options:
David hale (in past seasons he has finished with a bang), cyril, (discounted star) and cloke (consistency is shocking, though)
    Please help out guys.
    Oh yeah, 3 trades left.

  10. aaaaah crap!
Another to add to my list of ‘players who were injured or missed the week after I traded them in’
Hanley, Dixon, Thomas, Maric, Johnson, Scotland.
Got two games out of Birchall,
Blayne Wilson shouldn’t really count but qualifies.
    Think I’m forgetting someone else.
Probably bringing in McKenzie this week so apologies in advance if he explodes when running through the banner.

  12. looks like will have to ride it out with Scotland at D6 for a few weeks. 😡 on the plus side, Birchall and Hanley will be like handy come finals time.

  13. Hey guys (again),
Should I get rid of nic nat?
With 3 trades left and 20k in the bank I could go nic to simpson (cash cow) and then have goldy and nicholls as r1 and r2 respectively. Otherwise I could get in someone like ryder or maric and have them at r2 with nicholls on the bench. Nic nat is plummeting in price and I think he needs to go.

    T/U – trade him he’s useless
T/D – keep, he will come good

    Thanks
