Motts Movers R7 – The Mids

Written by Motts on May 11 2011

Thrillers

Jobe Watson ($510,200, 148, 120.29, 71) – At only $510k, Jobe is a bargain. Averages 120, hasn’t scored lower than 88 all year and on occasion pops out a game like his last where he scored 148. Gets his own ball, tackles like a man possessed, kicks goals, runs all day… just won’t be around in R24 when you need him. How many more SC teams would he be in if it wasn’t for the vagaries of the draw?

Trent Cotchin ($435,700, 130, 103.29, 59) – Is it any wonder Richmond are going as well as they are with blokes like Martin, Foley, Deledio, Newman, JRoo and Cotchin getting around for them? In the last 4 weeks, Cotch has missed the ton once and that was a 98. Like Jobe he’s a goaldobber, slotting a lazy 4 against the Dockers. Its not hard to foresee this guy ending up around $500k at the end of the year given the way he’s going.

Jimmy Bartel ($499,700, 112, 116.83, 102) – Jimmy dropped under $500k for the first time since the beginning of the season so I’m putting his name up in lights. In 6 games so far this year he’s only missed the ton once – a 75 against the Swans at the SCG. Take that game out and he’s averaging 125. Oooooph!

Honourable mentions: Matthew Boyd, David Mundy, Ryan Griffen, Brent Moloney, Dal, Colin Sylvia, and Sam Mitchell.

Chillers

Ben McGlynn ($349,100, 30, 71.17, 111) – I’m acutely aware of how bad the Wee Man is going because he plays in my team and I lost in my main league on the weekend by 15 points. McGlynn scored bloody 30. Its his last chance this week – Port at the SCG.

Adam Selwood ($340,200, 49, 64.83, ) – 2nd week in a row in this list but you’re not going anywhere when you score a 49.

Tom Logan ($297,100, 45, 61.00, 125) – Ditto for Logan.

Drillers

Stewart Crameri ($400,300, 98, 92.14, 63) – Sealed his spot in this week’s Movers post when off 2 steps he belted one through the middle from 58m out. I audibly gasped when I saw it. His last 3 round average is 110.3. He’s already gone up $144k this year but with the way he’s playing I reckon he has more in him. (Insert standard Essendon player not playing in the SC finals disclaimer here).

Rory Sloane ($366,600, 91, 90.5, 64) – They’ve got massive wraps on this kid over in SA and 2 games in to his 2011 season you can see why. 11 tackles in the Melbourne game (no, that’s not a typo). Opponents in the 5 weeks are: GC, Collingwood, Brisbane, North, and WC (at AAMI).

Daniel Kerr ($331,800, 129, 83.60, 7) – Injuries are of course a concern but looked as good as he ever has on Sunday against the Dons.

Special mentions: Isaac Smith, Matthew Wright, Sam Iles, and Ben Speight.

  1. Love these Motts keep up the good work, always good to know someone is thinking along the same lines as me.

Although I have a dilemma. I’m considering upgrading either one of my mids or one of my backs.
I was considering Jobe Watson or Jimmy Bartel.
Or do I upgrade to Heath Shaw in the backline then wait a couple of weeks to get Gary Ablett when his price drops further. Thoughts?

  2. i’m looking to upgrade one of my mids this week. Really tempted by Watson, but the final thing is a slight worry. Already have Swan, Hodge, Selwood as my big mid guns. Bartel/Pendles is a consideration but don’t want two mid-guns from one team.

Anyone have any thoughts? should i just get Watson he’s on fire!

  3. Please tell me if I’m missing someone

    Got $83k in the bank
    – Curnow to B Speight
    – Grimes to H Shaw
    Leaves me with $173k

Essentially I have $334.7 for a midfielder. I Smith can wait a week, Didak will drop, can’t afford Gilbee and Hibberd needs to get a 2nd game b4 I consider

  4. Do we think that Mundy is that good to hold his current average through the entire season?

  5. i agree with Jase about upgrading mids over def for the time being. Waiting for someone to get some consistency in the backline. Heater is prob best option if you already have lids gibbo god Newman etc. Mundy is the real deal. I’m still not impressed by any players that are on the 2 game bubble this week. I will be patient

  6. I (and I think alot of other coaches included) need some help!

My plan this week was to trade out Grimes and Curnow for Shaw and Swan. But! unfourtantlely because they both got injured at the start of the game and scored 14,12 there price has dropped meaning I don’t have enough cash to make both of those trades. So! Do I hold onto Curnow this week and wait for Swan to drop (BE 183) or do I trade out Grimes for Shaw and Curnow for Mundy

Option 1: Grimes ——-> Shaw (Hold Curnow for a week)
Option 2: Grimes, Curnow ——> Shaw, Mundy

    Thumbs Up = 1
    Thumbs Down = 2

  8. okay, I know that everyone has been saying upgrade mids over backs, but in my situation, I think j might be different.

Back – Gibbs, Goddard, Grimes (!!!), Hurley, Heppell, Toy, Pederson, Otten, A.Johnson

Midfield – Swan, Pendlebury, Boyd, Selwood, Harris, Liberatore, Curnow (!!!), D.Swallow, Pittard

    My options are

    Grimes —> Shaw
    leaves me with about $72,200
    or

    Grimes —> Puopolo
    Curnow —> Mundy/Priddis
    leaves me with about $205,000

If I do the second one, the week after I can trade a defender cash cow out and use extra money to buy shaw after he has gone down in price a bit.

    1 – Thumbs Up
    2 – Thumbs Down

  9. I think at taylors price he’s good value,

300k is a 60avg roughly he should be well above that, if with the 80k u get Pendles, mundy or priddis, who should get u a 110+ ur coming out ontop because grimes wasn’t really that spectacular this season. If u have saved ur trades and harry doesn’t work out downgrade him, he won’t drop much more in price

  10. hmm, with $192,000 in the bank, and both grimes and curnow, im not sure what to do this week..
-1) i can swap grimes out for heath shaw, then, depending on wether pederson gets named, i can put him in for danny stanley or mckernan. the following week i can put mundy in for curnow with the extra cash and see if i.smith gets named.
-2) i can downgrade grimes to a cheapie (pederson, puopolo) and throw mundy straight in this week for curnow. then next week put heater in for grimes and i.smith in as well.

even though my defence will be goddard, delidio, heppel, lower and 3 other rookies… (gibbs on the bench)
    what to do?

  11. Have downgraded Grimes to a rookie.

So now have $277K in the bank.

Thinking about upgrading Heppel to Swan/Pendles, but not sure if I should leave it a week or not to let Heppel’s price rise once more to get maximum dollars out of him and let Swan’s price drop to minimise the price difference.

I’m playing a side that hasn’t really performed in my primary league yet but has the potential to give me a run for my money, so should I get Swan in for Heppel ASAP or wait a week?

    Thoughts?

  12. Hey Lads.
Upgrading Curnow, and looking at one of these two.

    Matty Boyd thumbs up.

    Dan Cross thumbs down.

  13. Here’s one for you.
Had never thought of this until just now.
Ed Curnow into *insert drumroll here* Daniel Kerr.
Very unlikley that anybody would actually do it but if Kerr keeps his 1 game form up, why the hell not?
