Motts Movers R8, 2012 – The Mids

by Motts on May 23, 2012

Premiums

Brent Stanton ($646,100, 137.38, 76 ) – Had to rub my eyes when I looked at his last 3 game average – 153.3. He scored 154 against Brisbane at Etihad, followed that up a week later at the same venue against West Coast with a 164 then belted Richmond to the tune of 142 at the G last week. He’s starting to convince me that he might be f’real y’all.

Scott Thompson ($633,400, 128.38, 74) – Couldn’t resist him any longer last week and brought him into my SCTTL team. He responded with a 139 which coincidentally is his last 3 round average. The beard he’s sporting at the moment looks kinda Chapman-esque when combined with his nude nut. Makes him look tougher. Motts likes it.

Gary Ablett ($708,500, 145.50, 144) – The best SC player I have ever seen. Lowest score for the year so far? 125 returning from a knee injury. Turns the weekly captaincy poll into a farce. 65% of all supercoaches are kicking themselves that they don’t have him.

Midpricers

Sam Iles ($459,200, 95.40, 40) – Who knew? The 996 people who own Sammy (mostly family, friends and team mates) have been clicking their heels over these last 3 weeks. 103, 127, and 104. Handy.

Dion Prestia ($424,700, 86.38, 32) – And while we’re on the GC let’s include Dion who’s popped his head up with 2 107’s and a 112 these last 3 weeks. With him Rischitelli, Ablett, Horsley and Iles all running around the GC guts, why aren’t they on the board yet?

Mitch Wallis ($378,000, 85.17, 9) – Blonde afro (‘Blo Fro’?) has been getting it done in 4 of the last 5 weeks scoring 105, 105, 35 (he started as the sub in the Pies game), 110, and 104.

Value Picks

Dom Tyson ($227,100, 47.40, -28)Has scored 86 and 76 in the last 2 weeks but just be wary – the Giants tanked last game by resting a lot of their regulars.

Kyal Horsley ($278,500, 92.25, -19) – I breaking one of my unwritten rules by including a player in the Value Picks who’s price exceeds $250k but he is honestly that good. Tonned it up for the first time last week against the Dogs and will probably do it again this week against Port. Why he’s only owned by 22.5% of teams is beyond me. Projected to be around the $450k mark by the time GC have their bye in R13.

Darren Pfeiffer ($198,700, 62, -7)Not 100% convinced on DP but he worked his way up to a 94 against the Roos and is a handy DPP with a negative BE so he got a gig. Be warned though, his other scores this year have been 64, 60, and 30 #worldnotonfire

And great write up Mott.

I love the crows fixture especially the GF round against the Suns so Thommo may be a great player to have for that final period and even up till then. The emergence of Danger seems to have really helped him out.

Round 20 Qualifying final: Crows vs Freo at HOME
Round 21 Semi final: Crows vs Brisbane away
Round 22 Preliminary final: Crows vs Melbourne away
Round 23 Grand final: Crows vs Gold Coast HOME

Yep trade down to Zorko, he is going to go up and Magner will stay same price unless Neeld gets his act together and actually wants to win a game and move him back onto the ball.

wonder if Ratten will give Judd a week off before the finals? the way they are playing, they may as well play him to rnd 23 and give him, and the rest of the blues 6 months off..

I’m paraphrasing but Ratts said: “we open ourselves up for that type of criticism with the way we’ve been playing”. He may as well been saying it about the supporters as well.

Why not spend that dosh on an out and out mid? Boyd, Mitchell, Cotchin, Scottwood and Rockliffe will all probably average 110-115+ by season’s end. Shaw probably won’t (or he’ll do something stupid).

Probably not the best option out there at his price $614,200 but must be tempting for some.

Hi Motts,

Bit off topic mate, I remember last year you used to pick a team (22) each week using the regulars on SCT….. but I havent seen it this year. Just wondering if that comes later in the season/has been thrown on the back-burner or ya just to busy to worry about that anymore?

I have replaced A.Hall with Zorko in the forward line and kept C.smith as a reserve in the centre. If A.hall actually plays this week I have a dilemma. I have K. Hunt and Tomlinson in my back line and M. Johnson in my forwards. I could sell Tomlinson after swapping positions with Johnson and get Zorko relegating Hunt to the reserves looking to downgrade him after the buys to finish my upgrades?.
Is this sensible?

Since 2005 he has averaged 114.7 across 159 games.
Has never missed more than 1 game in a season since 2004.
I challenge you to find a higher averaging player across the same period with similar durability. Trust me, you won’t.

That being true statistics MJ, especially the durability.

Judd & Gazza would be the only contenders to come close, I would guess! I think Juddy has averaged over 100 for nearlly 10 years & Gazza, well he’s been a SC freak since 2007.

i was set on priddis, but now NDS could be a better option with the saints playing better footy.

mids now.
Stanton, Pendels, Watson, GAJ, Kennedy, Horsely.

What do you all think

thumbs up: trade magner to dal santo for mids of
ablett, watson, thompson, selwood, pendles and dalsanto with horsley as emg

or

thumbs down: trade bugg to birchall for def of
Broughton, Suckling, Birchall, Deledio, Goddard, Clarke, Morris and ellis emg

This i doing my head in just thought i would see what everyone thought so cheers guys

With either of these trade options Chuckles,

In round 13 bye round you will have no Ablett, NDS?, Horsley, Suckling, Birchall?, Deledio, Goddard, Ellis & Morris. Maybe look towards a player or 2 from the r11 bye as you seemed to be only missing S Thompson as a premium missing that round.

If you are planning to write off r13, disregard this opinion Chuckles.

cheers catta, i was planning to write off round 13, i think i already have to many out to get a win as is, i was more thinking which of the two trades might wield a greater ‘net gain’.

I think i will make the birchall trade as i think horsley has the potential to score 90+ pretty often as my M6

All week have been going Greene & Coniglio out for NDS & Zorko leaving 14 trades, 380K cash allowing a) Magner to Priddis after Magner has plugged a mid gap in Round 11 & b) Smedts (or Morris / Ellis) to a Round 11 bye def i.e. Beau Waters or S.Thomp (roos). Nice plan to improve already solid team & manouvre through byes.
However a vision came to me in the night… GAJ. Even though as a Saints man i love NDS & I have slights concerns on GAJ ref. long term effect of hard tags & scoring if not in the guts….. we are talking about the little master.

Thumbs UP: – NDS this week & have 2 further prem upgrades planned (& try & get GAJ in Rnd 14 to complete mids)

Thumbs DOWN:- GAJ this week & simply go Magner to Priddis after Rnd 11 with the 155k cash.

Any thoughts or comments as well as votes appreciated.

No keepers for that money, therefore maybe look at Rookie Round up for this week. Darley is on the bubble next week but go him a week early if you are desperate, however i am keeping Ellis as bench cover and will flick him prior to Round 13 bye or after that. Remember that he may not always be sub & could prevent a 0 or two during round 11 and 12.
