Motts Movers R8, 2012 – The Rucks

Written by Motts on May 23 2012

I’m going to a little bit more effort here than I have in previous weeks. Some call it guilt. I call it an elevated sense of social responsibility.

Premiums

Dean Cox ($593,300, 112.38, 82) – Those who thought his scores were inflated by the absence of Nic Nat had to think again on the weekend when he eased his way to a 139 with NN on the field. Boo ya, Doubters!

Ivan Maric ($524,700, 106.38, 64) – The 2012 Goldstein. Getting his chance, grabbing it by both hands, and scoring at will. Hasn’t missed the ton since R3 and over the last 3 has gone 129, 119 and 137. Somewhere Will Minson is contemplating a mullet.

Aaron Sandilands ($594,200, 119.83, 136) – Had his worst round for the year on the weekend – only managed to scrape together 100. I reckon there’d be more than a few looking at Giles on their field right now but seeing Sandilands in R13.

Mid-Pricers

David Hale ($442,800, 88.50, 56) – I wonder how many teams have Hale and Roughie do-si-do’ing as Ruck/Forward DPP’s. Last 3 rounds: 102, 124 & 90. To put his average in perspective, its half a point behind Kreuzer’s.

Darren Jolly ($435,300, 87.83, 77) – Generally pops his head up at least once in the Ruck Movers for the year and here he is. His durability is a little suspect (hell, he’s just had 2 weeks off) but he came back against Geelong and scored 88 after scoring 108 and 100 in Rounds 4 and 5. That’ll make him, um, jolly.

Sam Jacobs ($479,300, 97, 91) – Made Matthew Kreuzer his bitch on Sunday. But Krooz ain’t Robinson Crusoe there. Big Sauce has scored 4 tons in 8 games this year with 2 other scores in the 90’s and his nadir being a 75. Can you imagine how good Carlton could’ve been if we’d kept him, and Fev hadn’t gone off the rails, and SOS had stuck around for a few more years………………..*sigh*.

Value Picks

Josh Jenkins ($113,200, 88, -107) – 2 games for an 80 and a 96. Like BS I wonder how Adelaide are going to fit him in but when you see him storm inside 50 from inside the centre square then dob one on the run from 40-odd you kinda think they’ll find a way.

Orren Stephenson ($150,200, 54.67, -56) – Two big IF’s accompany this recommendation. IF you haven’t already got him and IF he gets named this week…… ah stuff it, get Jenkins.

I’m only going to mention Mike Pyke ($210,300) here to warn all the youngsters off getting him after he arsed his way to 95 against Melbourne on the weekend. He’s Canadian FFS. Do. Not. Get. Him.

  1. Its a shame the bombers had to let Jenkins go but he was never gonna get a game with the likes of Bellchambers, Ryder & Hille.
Should be interesting to see if Josh stays in the Crows side once Walker comes back.

Big O & Redden should get more games this season.
Orren was better than Trent West on the weekend & Renouf has a finger injury and not doin much when he is playing so Redden looks ready to step in & hopefully step up. The 1prem/3 rookie move is still alive… For now.

  3. @ Double D
I’ve seen McKernan play firsthand when he was at my old footy club. Was a gun forward….kicked bags most games. Jenkins will probably beat McKernan for selection due to form but McKernan does give the Crows more flexibility cuz he can also play back as well as forward & ruck. Should be a great game on Saturday either way!

  5. Any news on Mumford?? Still have him sitting on the bench which seems like a waste of 600k!!

Mumford to Jenkins sounds like a plan!

  6. any news on H-Mac recently? what to do with Giles, Kruzer and H-mac? seems like some good coin sitting on the bench each week that could go elsewhere

  7. The Jenkins/Redden move is one you’d make now if, like me, you had the Giles/Cox combination with no bench cover in a few weeks.

Thinking Zorko/Magner as well to cash in while I’m at it.

Leaves me with 650k in the bank for the inevitable upgrades during bye round.

  8. Suffice to say I’m pretty happy thus far with my iMaric selection (on the back of Goldstein last year).

McEvoy, not so much. Currently running with iMaric and Giles.

  9. Stemming from Coltas comments above it got me thinking about consistency in SC. Those that always top 100+. I’ve done some research:

The players lsited below are currently on a streak of 100+ of five or more. Format is name, amount of 100+ games this year, current length of 100+ streak (extending back in to 2011)

Some of the results are surprising. Sloane and Maric for example.

    ABLETT, 100+ in 2012 – 6/6, 15 game streak
    J SELWOOD, 7/7, 12
    JP KENNEDY, 8/8, 9
    DELEDIO, 8/8, 8
    NAITANUI, 6/6, 7
    SIDEBOTTOM, 7/8, 7
    SANDILANDS, 6/6, 6
    PENDLEBURY, 7/8, 5
    THOMPSON, 7/8, 5
    SLOANE, 7/8, 5
    MARIC, 5/8, 5

  10. I’m def trading Magner to Zorko this week but I have a bit of dilemma with my 2nd trade.

I’m currently holding Giles as my R3 (Cox/Sandi are R1&2 and Reddan is R4).

TU – Murphy>Thompson (leave the Giles trade until later in the season – prob trade to a dirt cheap ruck with no JS – and get a massive $ inflow just before finals)
TD – Giles>Jenkins (trade Giles now for a bit less than I’d get later in the year but have an R3 who has decent JS)

    Any help would be appreciated!
