Motts Movers R9 – The Backs

Written by Motts on May 25 2010

Another quick one today seeing as I’m bashing it out on my lunch break. Today’s theme is Kennelly Replacements.

S Gilbert ($458,500 $+3,500 ($-50,600), 97.78) – The backline must-have from last year started 2010 well with 3 tons in a row but fell away a little after that. His last 2 weeks have yielded 99 and 106. Giddy up!

T Chaplin ($425,600 $-13,600 ($+13,200), 94.62) – Consistency is an issue with young Troy and his price is set to drop further after a 79 two weeks ago but he did have a 103 on the weekend and in the past has scored in the mid-120’s.

L Greenwood ($235,700 $-2,300 ($-900), 51.25) – “WTF, Motts?” I hear you say but how about this for a strategy I’m considering right now. I’ve got Gilbee in my midfield and there is a shortage of premium backs this year so if I bring Greenwood in (who plays as a D/M midfielder) for Kennelly I can swap him for Gilbee and then bench him. Either Bastinac, Ziebell or even Higgins (if the OP rumours are true) then gets upgraded to a Premium with the $145k I made on the Kennelly for Greenwood trade. The longer this season goes, the more value I can see in having DPP’s all over the field.

I’ll leave it up to you guys as to who makes the Donkey List but my votes would be P Duffield, H Grundy (sorry PA), and H Shaw.

  1. Mottsy, there’s not point in wasting two trades at this time of the season and I think i’ve found you a guy that might help you in your current situation.
Andrew Carrazzo (D/M) R9 score 42 ($455,900 $+3,300 ($+3,300), R10 Breakeven 94. Carrots might be value as Tadhg’s replacement Mottsy, but you’ll need to find $77k somewhere, hopefully in your bank.

    1. OK so obviously I like Carrazz coz he’s a Blue but (1) I don’t have $77k in the bank and (2) his consistency is a problem (last 2 rounds 42 and 143). Given that the 42 will affect his price again next week, maybe I’ll hold onto Tadgh for another week and wait for Carrazz’s price to come down even more.

        1. Ah, didn’t see it. Thanks for that. Just checked my bank balance and the $165k I have says I CAN afford him.

          1. Brought him in last week to replace McPharlin and he gives me a measly 42. Two weeks in a row with a defender injury, and I’ve been copping donuts for H-mac with no cover. 🙁 Please no more injuries this week, I need a chance to clean up my team and I’m down to 12 Trades. Got $270 grand or so in the bank that I need to get on the field and need to fix my fwds.

  2. You’ve inspired me Motts. I’m going to look for something left of centre to try and trade Ziebell, Bastinac, Petrie, McMahon and Thomas for Corey McKernan of the mid 90’s into my rucks, Greig of the 70’s and Schimma of the 80’s into my mids and Jock Spencer of the 50’s into my fwds.

Is this possible with the DPP???

    1. I believe McKernan scored well at The Leveson (the North Melbourne pub he owns) last week. Could be worth a look.

  3. I’m personally thinking about bringing in Kepler Bradley as a DPP (D/R) to replace Kennelly and using another trade to bring in O’Keefe for Brennan (both F/M DPP’s) with the money saved.

Will wait until Thursday to see if Kepler keeps his spot when McPharlin comes back.

    1. Bradley is a donkey and I will rename this site KeplarBradleyIsSpectacular.com.au if he plays again and scores anywhere near 100.

      1. Is McPharlin back this week? Thought he was out for 4-6? Dont tell me I traded him out for nothing?

  4. I am considering Gilbee (don’t have him) or Sam Fisher as my Tadgh replacement.
Waiting one more week for GAJ as well – hoping it doesn’t churn up Melbourne this week!!

    1. Gazza’ B/E is a whopping 255 this week, so I’m holding off till he’s price falls in the $600k mark, which should be in a couple of weeks.

        1. BE of 255 not a problem for the little master on his home deck. As for my Kennelly replacement i think i will play it safe with Gilbert. Not in a position to take risks at this stage.

      1. GAj wont go below 700k this year, if your going to get him he’ll probably be at his cheapest in a week or 2 but he’ll still be around 710k, the superstars tend to be accountable and are never down on form for long!

  5. Leaving Thai K for a few weeks as I have backups.

Looks like the Cats will make the top 2 rather easily. Hence resting players in the finals 4 weeks ( finals time) Do you take the GAJ & Chappy gamble?

There is only 1 guy you should pick up this week & his B/E is 59. Making every effort to get him with 2 trades and burning a 1st year player.

        1. Goodes would have scored well over 100 this week if it were not for 4 weird kicking clangers in the 1qtr. Still an A grader

          1. Also looking at getting Goodes in.
            Time to go:
            Gumbleton > Goodes
            or
Martin > Goodes and utilise the DPP with Chappy and O’Keefe in the forward line.

The forwards seem to be in a little more strife so I reckon I’ll go with the Gumbleton move.

Also could trade Kennelly > Hargrave, taking me down to 8 remaining. Probably worth just sitting Kennelly on the pine for a few weeks and playing either Silvagni or Webberley to save a trade. Opinions?

  6. Can’t believe u disregard Kepler Bradley so quickly Motts. Surely he could have improved? Two scores of over 100 in his only 2 games can’t b a fluke and he wasn’t too bad last year. His price will increase next week regardless how he goes . . . Great time to get on board Keplers Vessell! Haha

  7. PA’s Butt Muncher in Defence for R9.

Jacob Surjan ($290,900 $-23,400 ($-40,200) 60.56), Last three rounds he has a avg of 46 you’ll expect him (with his new VC role this year) to step up, but you can never trust a surgeon just ask the 7,280 coaches out there. Maybe he should go back to long jump where he has already won the national under 16 championships in 2000.

      1. Nah, I don’t have in my team Deano, off topic can’t believe the number of people who are thinking about bringing in Bradley in this week.

        1. Whilst I’m sceptical as to his long term worth given history suggests he’s a direct replacement for MJ, I’m not as dismissive as Motts as he’s a first round draft pick (2003) who although has an unusual gait, is not afraid of attacking the contest.
This gives him the ability to score well at SC with the required level of game time (which is problematical.)
In having said that, I’m not going anywhere near him at this stage of the season as he’s a long way from being a premium and will therefore cost you two trades.
The issue that astounds me with trading at this stage of the season is coaches considering bringing in players based on their next 4 opponents. Now is the time teams should be focussed on the LAST 4 games of the season surely.

          1. I question Bradds job security, since coming from the Bombers to the Dockers in ’08 he has only played in 26 games, that to me is quite concerning at his price. The fact he played in R7 had 25 posses and still got dropped the following week, show me Harvey doesn’t think much of Bradds.

  8. hey everyone,
i was thinking of upgrading D.Martin this round to finalize my mids.
i have exactly 198,000 in the bank.
this gives me 515,400 to work with.

How does a Martin>Dal Santo trade sound?

after the trade my mids would be:
Ablett, Swan, Barlow, Watson, Dal Santo, Judd 🙂
with Trengove and Howlett on the bench

    Any thoughts??

    1. Dal Santo is the perfect trade for you this round. This will be his cheapest price all year. And I like the idea of buying Saints players, as their last 4 games of the year (finals time for SC) are Port Adelaide (Etihad), North Melbourne (Etihad), Richmond (Etihad), Adelaide (AAMI). A nice run that should see plenty of points for the Saints with their skipper Nick Riewoldt back in the side by that stage. Go for it mate!

  9. The injury report lists Kennelly down for only 3 weeks. Would this justify saving the trade and putting him on the bench for 3. Do people think Hargrave will start finding his form of 2009 or was he a bit of a one hit wonder? He was certainly one of the best defenders last year, I loved having him churning out the hundreds.

  10. advice please gentleman

have scully and mcveigh in mid. no bench options (stevenson and armstrong dammit). have $257k in bank. If I sell both scully and mcveigh I have a bank of $936.6. What should I get? Have Ablett, hodge, barlow and cooney. Could get ROK and Didak both DPP. Could also get Burgoyne who has started well and will go up, leaving me $550.5k and a multitude of choices but probably having to take a DPP as I have none in mids and 2 in fwds. Also I could take ROK as my DPP andstill have 510k to spend leaving the likes of Murphy (love him in SC), Pendelbery, Gibbs or Del Santo. Any input on all this would be food for thought

  11. Sold on this Goodsey idea.

Assuming nothing fishy comes up in selection i will trade Vince for Goodes then swap Goodes/Rohan so Goodes is fwd and Rohan’s in M7 calculations with Trengove and Howlett. Next round i’ll then swap Waite/Davis so Waite is in def and Davis is fwd bench with Rockliff.

Like all this as i use one less trade than my intended trade of a downgrade of Silvagni for Heath and an upgrade of Hunt or Waters to Gilbee.

Still might trade Rockliff for Playfair as a straight swap but unlikely.
