Motts Movers R9 – the Mids

Thrillers

Dale Thomas ($464,200, 151, 103.75, 36) – Started the year slowly but in the last 2 weeks has gone wooshka for a 127 and a 151. Stepped it up a gear in 2010 and looks to be improving again in 2011. Specifically with his tackling – in the last 3 weeks he’s averaged 6 a game. And if you haven’t yet seen the set shot screwy he kicked from waaaaay outside 50 on the weekend, do yourself a favour and find it somewhere.

Marc Murphy ($504,800, 145, 114.0, 107) – Another player that has been smited (smote?) by the draw/the bye in SC finals and is hence only in 7% of teams. Has been racking up the numbers while contract negotiations have been in the background which leads me to wonder if he’ll try as hard once the deal to remain at Carlton is signed but with a 112 average over the last 2 years and a truly professional approach to the game I’m sure he’ll continue to perform.

Scott Pendlebury ($518,900, 124, 121.75, 118) – In my honest opinion, Pendles was a better pick up this pre-season than Swan. He was due to get better and he cost $70k less. To date, he’s averaging under 1 SC point a game less and with Swan looking like he’s carrying some kind of quad injury I expect will surpass him sometime soon. For a player averaging 120+, $518k is bloody good value. Next three games are against WC, St Kilda, and Melbourne (all at the MCG because the mountain always comes to Mohammed).

Honourable mentions: Joel Selwood, Andrew Embley,  Brent Harvey, Scott Thompson, Trent Cotchin, Matthew Boyd, Dustin Martin, Matt Priddis, Ryan Griffen, and Chris Judd (who will be playing this week according to an email I got from Ratts last night).

Chillers

Shaun Burgoyne ($353,400, 70, 82.75, 111) – In a game Hawthorn dominated he scored a 70 and lost another $24k last week. That makes a total loss of $131k loss for the year. The rest of the Maulers are tired of carrying him.

Dane Swan ($512,700, 80, 122.12, 169) – I hesitated putting Swanny in here because we’re talking about a bloke who’s averaged 120+ the last 2 years and is still over that in 2011. But his last 4 games have produced results well under that mark: 106, 104, 98 and 80. Time to admit it: Dane’s gone cold.

Shane Tuck ($422,800, 51, 46.67, 200) – Has either been the sub or been subbed in all 3 of his games so far this year. I think Damo has it in for him.

Drillers

Liam Shiels ($370,800, 119, 89.88, 35) – What a pick-up this guy would’ve been in R1 this year. Has shot up $142k since and over the last 3 has averaged 104.7.

Paul Chapman ($467,600, 112, 104.14, 134) – While everybody is talking about the Ablett and Montagna bargains that are available in the middle this week, let’s not overlook Chappy who at $467k is a steal. Yes his 134 BE is high but lets all just remind ourselves who the Cats are playing this week.

Jordan Gysberts ($291,200, 98, 81.00, 14) – Was a SC revelation last year and then disappeared faster than Wayne Carey at a party when Kate Neilsen walks into the room. Opened his account with a 128 in R3 this year and has had an 85 and a 98 over the last 2.

Special mentions: Daniel Rich (112.3 avg over last 3), Travis Boak, David Zaharakis, Jarrad McVeigh (106.3 avg over last 3), Adam Goodes, Nathan Foley, Reece Conca (has gone up a gear), Ryan O’Keefe, Andrew Krakouer, and Simon Buckley.

  1. Apparently swan has a thigh injury and isn’t confident with it. Hasn’t been used in the middle much and can’t kick the full distance. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets rested sometime.

  2. Happy to admit I jumped the gun on Burgoyne after a blistering start. Had him among my first picked in the pre-season and two first up beauties backed that sleection up. Has been a constant dissapointment since then. Is he injured?

Will be traded out this week. Extra bitterness towards him this week as he (as a supposed premium) cost me a 2500+ score!

Is there such a thing as being on tilt while picking your SC team?

  3. Motts, according to Homer, the word is ‘Smoten’.
As in: “O Spiteful One, show me who to smite and he shall be smoten!”

  4. Was set in trading out swallow for hodge this week but daisy is in the same “price” range im willing to spend.

What do you guys reckon of having 3 pies in the midfield?

Would be pendles, swan & daisy, along with boyd, judd and joelwood.

Will hurt when they have the rnd 14 bye but im almost happy to cop that considering what the line up looks like.

    Thumbs Up Hodgey
    Thumbs Down Daisy

    Cheers guys

  5. Happy to say I’ve had Shiels since R1. Thought I’d trade him once he’d made me enough cashola, but now I’m thinking he’s a keeper he just keeps on scoring and earning $$ 🙂

  6. Is anyone else hesitant in picking up too many Collingwood players for finals time? I know they will not be having a BYE, but I can just picture now Malthouse ruining finals time for Supercoachers in resting guys like Swan and Pendles, or making them a sub in some inconsequential game for them in the last few rounds.

  7. I’ve been considering picking up Hodge, as the GC in the final roundsmeans a big score. What scares me is that since it’s an easy game he might be rested, along with Buddy or Cyril. I think I’ll be waiting until after their second bye to make the decision, and see how the ladder looks.

  8. I thought at the start of the year Pendlebury was cheap, plan was to upgrade him to Swan after their bye. Also considering Selwood, and have to agree with you on Marc Murphy and Daisy.. they have been wonderful this year.
