Motts Movers R10, 2013 – The Rucks

Written by Motts on June 5 2013

Premiums

Will Minson

Nic Naitanui

Midpricers

David Hale

Zac Clarke

(I’ve been getting a lot of questions about Matthew Kreuzer – his consistency is just too much of an issue for me, I recommend you stay away)

Rookies

Nathan Vardy

Daniel Gorringe

Be careful with Thomas Nicholls – despite scoring 90 in his first game I’ve got some concerns about his JS.

  1. Moving Roughead from the rucks to the forwards next week, potentially, and trying to work out whether to go with which of the following…

Thumbs up: Minson [+ Roughy –> FWD]
Thumbs down: Bartel [+ Roughy stays as a ruck]

Thanks in advance! Currently have Nicholls traded in for Rowe but I may reverse that one…

  3. Don’t know why Nicholl’s JS is a concern, Zac Smith is gone and he played much better then Gorringe on the weekend.

  4. I thought Nichols looked pretty good was thinking the same on js.
Although when Dixon comes back may force him out. Maybe Dixon may revert back to key position and leave Nichols on the ruck. Guess we will have to wait till Thursday.

  5. Once Dixon gets back in only one of Gorringe and Nicholls will play.

Here’s what the GFC website has to say about nicholls:

Tom Nicholls is a lean project ruckman of Fijian heritage originally from Yarrawonga in country Victoria.

The 200cm ruckman will add more weight on his frame and will take time to develop.

Nicholls had his first crack at the big time, playing seniors against Adelaide in round eight before a knee injury wiped out the second half of his season.

He was unable to add to that tally in 2012, and will need to continue to ply his trade in the NEAFL to further develop himself into senior contention.

Here’s what they have to say about Gorringe:

South Australian Daniel Gorringe is a mobile ruckman blessed with fantastic ball-winning skills.

Taken by the GC SUNS at Pick 10 at the 2010 National Draft, Gorringe is a member of the GC SUNS highly-promising big man group.

Widely considered one of the best performed players at the 2010 National Championships, Gorringe, showed tremendous nous and deft touch in ruck contests against bigger opponents and proved himself a terrific disposer of the ball around the ground.

His goal-kicking is also a hallmark.

The young ruckman was hampered by hamstring and ankle injuries in 2011, playing seven games, including the Suns’ first two wins, and showed a great leap and mobility to go with his impressive tap work.

Things just got worse for the luckless Gorringe in 2012, with an achillies injury ending his season in the opening round of 2012.

With a full season of rehab, Gorringe will be hoping for a change of luck in 2013 to show everybody just why he was a top 10 draft pick.

The big thing that stands out for me is Nicholls being a “project” ruckman. Gorringe has always been mentioned as coming whereas Nicholls has hardly rated a mention at all before this year. I just think that they have Gorringe a fair way ahead in the pecking order, but hopefully this week’s selection can tell us something a bit more definitive.

  6. Blicavs $309,500 (ruck / mid) BE -21

    Rnd 1-8 avg 53.1
    Rnd 9-10 avg 103.5

The stepplechaser is really looking like he’s starting to get the hang of the game. Don’t recommend picking him up, more that i just want to give some recognition to the stepplechaser for his consecutive tons.

  7. I held big Maxy Gawn knowing (thinking/hoping) he would get recalled promptly. I went down n watched them in the 2s and he just looks far too good for that level. 15 touches, 4.3 and about 40 hitouts in the wet. I’m not sure whether to trade him out for 1 of the GCS boys though. Obviously this is the week for Gorringe, but could hold a week for Nicholls.

T/U – keep Gawn (if picked)
    T/D – trade to Nicholls/Gorringe
