Motts’ Movers – Rucks R9

by Motts on May 20, 2009

Rucks. The Big Fellas. My team already has Cox and McIntosh on the field and Meesen (out for season) and Jacobs (injured) on the bench. As I’ve said previously, I’m waiting on Naitanui to come in for the Eagles to make some cash on the Meesen trade but if you’re looking for options now and can’t afford either Massive or McIntosh here are some nice options:

Justin Koschitzke ($349,900, 82.71). If you’re prepared to wear the injury risk this bloke is playing in a winning team and has a fair average. He’s cracked tons in 3 of the 7 games he’s played this year but with some ordinary scores mixed in amongst them (17, 43 & 60) he’s dropped $72,300 in price. Won’t last long this cheap.

Paul Johnson ($308,900, 53.88). OK so his average is nothing special but the bloke has been competing for rucking time this year with the likes of Meesen and Spencer. With Jamar and Meesen out and Spencer struggling to get picked, Johnson’s scores (and value) are starting to rise. 82 last week, 92 the week before and a total price rise over that time of $30,400. With Melbourne playing Hawthorn this week he’s likely to put up some big numbers too.

Who to Avoid
Cameron Cloke ($344,500, 65.00). As much as I hate not recommending any Carlton player, this guy just simply does not justify his price. He’s great overhead but as soon as the ball hits the deck its donkey time. His shithouse form even saw him dropped last week. He hasn’t scored above 82 for the year. Spend the extra $5k and get yourself Kosi.

Troy Simmonds ($316,800, 62.33). Oh how the mighty hath fallen. This guy was a great pick up last year but this year he’s been crap. It appears as though Father Time has given Troy a tap on the shoulder. Opened with a 94 against my boys but since then has been more than mediocre. Even the rookie, Angus Graham, is out-averaging him. If you’re looking for a ruck and your allegiance to the Tiges dictates he’s gotta wear yellow and black, take Graham. Hell of a lot more upside.

I bowed to public pressure and grabbed Cox a few weeks back (pun not intended) due to Ottens and then Hille being out. Also with Jacobs injured i was left with very little in the big man department.

Kroooozer and Cox are doing well for me at the minute with Jacobs something to fall back on when he’s fit.

I’ve never really paid much attention to getting an A-Grade ruckman … but now i can see the merit. Although i don’t believe in covering 2 positions with stars on the bench … will always have a skinny few reserves and cover the other positions that field 6 players with some better talent.
