Movers and Shakers – Down Back

by Motts on May 8, 2009

This year’s Defenders are harder to pick than a broken nose. I’ll tell you who I’ve got now and then follow that up with who I’d like. The boys I have in the backline are:

Chad Cornes – was cheap at the beginning of the year and always racks up the points. No-brainer.

Tarkyn Lockyer – can amass huge scores on occasion (see last week’s 150 for evidence). My one concession to Collingwood in the team.

Brendan Goddard – has had an amazing start to the year. Have had him since Day 1. Has already had a 174 and a 175 this year. Gun.

Luke Hodge – wish I could say I brought him in this week but he’s gotta come good eventually

Jed Adcock – another cheap option early that can be a little hot (144 in R3) and cold (43 last week)

Stephen Hill – I questioned whether or not I should trade this guy a couple of weeks ago but after his 138 last week I’m glad I kept him. Looks to only just be hitting his straps.

Ryah Houlihan – one of the most picked players in the comp due to his silky skills and cheapness. The added bonus for me was that he was a Blue. Unfortunately he won’t be playing this week leaving me to choose from one of the following 2 options.

Jared Petrenko – cheap rookie option who has averaged a creditable 55.50 and gone up almost $120k.

Greg Broughton – played one game (R3), got a 70 and hasn’t been heard of since. C’mon Harvey give the kid a run, will you?

Here are the fellas that I’ll be keeping an eye on for the next few weeks:

Marty Mattner – had a superb second half of the year in ’08 and after a comparatively slow start this year (avg = 87.17) he’s dropped $71,400 to $456,700 and looks cherry ripe for the picking after a 118 last week.

Sam Gilbert – still only valued at $468,000 and averages 108.67. Those numbers speak for themselves.

Jarrad Waite – I love this bloke. Is superb overhead, great motor on him, directs traffic out of the back, and goes forward on occasion. Average is 100.83 and he’s worth $501k. It doesn’t hurt that he plays for Carlton either.

Corey Enright – the guy averages 95 yet has still dropped $46,900 to now be worth a smidge under $500k. Get him while he’s cheap!

If you’re looking for cheaper options have a look at:

Stephen Hill – still cheap at $282,100 and looks to just be coming out of his shell

Kyle Cheney – $161,000, got named again this week, and scored 119 in his first game. Definitely consider.

Ricky Petterd – Bob loves this bloke. Loves him. I don’t see the attraction – he hasn’t scored over 85 all year, his average is 62, and he plays for the Dees. But he has played all games and is only valued at $270,900. Hmmmmm maybe Bobby is onto something…

Good luck to everyone this week. Except the bloke I’m playing.

Cheers

I always had Chad, he was a starter from day 1. Jed Adcock has been OK for me but a little off the boil lately. Hoilihan going out injured and with Guerra back out too i had to make some big decisions.

IN CAME Kyle Cheney! Good price and freed up some dollars to pick up Cox in the ruck too …. all this at the expense of Ottens and Guerra. Let’s hope it pays off mate!

That`s not too bad mate, got Rance named as emergency and he`s playing so as long as there`s no other outs in my backline i`ll be OK
