Movers & Shakers – Round 21

Written by The Salamander on August 8 2019

Player Name (Other position) (Club, Price, Average, 3-round-average, 5-round-average)

DEFENDERS

Nic Newman (CARL, $523,100, 97.0, 110.0, 116.8)

Four of his last six scores have been over 100, including captaincy-worthy efforts of 147 and 161, with his two sub-100 scores were a respectable 82 and 87. He has been a great pickup for anyone who grabbed him at $415,300 after his bye.

Shannon Hurn (WCE, $500,400, 107.4, 91.0, 93.8)

Considered by many to be a ‘must-have’ earlier in the year, the balding Eagle has only managed two 100+ scores in his last six outings.

MIDFIELDERS

Jack Macrae (WBD, $655,400, 123.6, 142.7, 132.8)

Averaging 138 post-bye, Macrae has only been below 120 once in that time (and that was a 116), while managing five scores over 140, including three over 150.

Patrick Cripps (CARL, $544,800, 116.2, 101.0, 99.2)

I never thought I’d be putting the best player in the AFL in this slot, but here we are. The normally consistent Cripps has been up and down lately – his last six sores have been 194, 78, 115, 73, 152, and 78. You know what’s coming this week…

RUCKS

Brodie Grundy (COLL, $658,900, 131.3, 131.7, 135.4)

Less of a mover, and more of a permanently high fixture, Grundy has only been under 100 twice this year. Post-bye, he hasn’t been below 117. That said, with a post-bye average of 141, and with his last two scores being 117 and 121, with Gawn to come this week, he could well find himself in the opposite slot come next edition!

Shane Mumford (GWS, $354,800, 82.4, 58.7, 78.4)

Apart from a lean, money-haemorrhaging few weeks in the lead up to his bye (thanks, Shane), Mumford has enjoyed a pretty decent return to AFL action after coming out retirement. His recent form, however, would not have pleased the 4.6 percent of coaches who still have him in their team, with a 53 in round 18 followed up by a 13 (yes, 13 – and that was from 78 percent TOG!) in round 19. However, those two bad (okay, awful) scores were sandwiched between a 99 and a 110, so with his low price tag, he could make a good R3 for the last few weeks of the season.

FORWARDS

Toby Greene (GWS, $515,200, 90.4, 117.7, 112.4)

Back in the midfield thanks to the Giants’ injury woes, Greene has averaged 123 over the last month, including two scores over 130. Anybody who picked him up for $401,800 four weeks ago will rightly be feeling pretty smug right now.

Caleb Daniel (WBD, $471,800, 99.1, 84.7, 91.2)

Three of his past four have been under 90, and he’s just done a (likely season-ending) hamstring. Need I say more?

  1. Sicily. Was so happy with his first up effort in my team pumping out 140+ but has been a landslide since.

Treloar has to be the mover – going gangbusters
