MRP – R11

Written by Motts on June 15 2015

No suspensions arose from Round 11. Here’s the wrap-up.
NORTH Melbourne’s plan to rough up Sydney Swans spearhead Lance Franklin has landed Michael Firrito in strife, with the Match Review Panel offering the defender a $1500 fine for striking the star forward.

Firrito made contact with Franklin’s head in a spoiling attempt in the second quarter of Saturday night’s match.

The MRP deemed the incident as careless conduct with low impact to the head and was classified as a $2500 sanction. However an early plea, due to no bad record, can reduce the penalty to a $1500 fine.

Fremantle captain Matthew Pavlich can accept a $1000 fine, with an early plea, after being charged with striking Gold Coast defender Trent McKenzie in the game at Metricon Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The panel classified the incident as intentional conduct with low impact to McKenzie’s body.

West Coast defender Xavier Ellis has been fined $1000 for engaging in rough conduct against Bombers forward Joe Daniher.

The MRP assessed the incident as careless conduct with low impact to the body.

Sydney Swans co-captain Kieren Jack can accept a $1000 sanction after being charged with a first offence for careless contact with umpire Jacob Mollison in the third quarter of Saturday night’s game against the Roos.

Contact between Geelong skipper Joel Selwood and Port Adelaide defender Tom Jonas from the second quarter of Friday night’s match was looked at but thrown out.

The panel also assessed contact between Power midfielder Brad Ebert and Geelong youngster Jordan Murdoch in the third quarter of the same game, with the panel believing Ebert had no alternative to contest the ball.

Geelong forward Tom Hawkins’ spoiling attempt on Port Adelaide’s Jasper Pittard, in the fourth quarter of Friday night’s game, was also viewed, although it was the view of the MRP that the force used was below that required for a report.

Contact between Gold Coast’s Charlie Dixson and Fremantle’s Hayden Ballantyne, in the third quarter of Saturday’s match, was also tossed out.
