One That Got Away

Written by Schwarzwalder on July 19 2018

Jack The Salamander made the request for this thread in the Polling Station on Monday…….always makes for interesting banter ๐Ÿ˜‰

Which player do you regret ‘missing out on’?ย  Which player would you love to have in your team that is currently not in there?

While I’m fairly happy with my early season assessment of the ‘perfect team’ (have made up over 18 000+ spots in the rankings over the last nine weeks), I wouldn’t mind having Jake Lloyd right about now.ย  He has been killing it since Callum Mills went down for the year.ย  Around that time I believe he was still available for around $450k?ย  Bargain…..he’s on fire right now.

Who is it for you, Coaches?ย  Who’s your personal ‘Jake Lloyd’?

  1. Grundy & Lloyd for me. Chose Kreuzer who became Nic Nac who sadly still wont become Grundy this week. I also suggested the Chad to a mate during the byes who couldnt afford anyone better. I off course went Boak !! He is still thanking me and I am wishing I had less money at the time !!

    1. I don’t think you should feel too bad about Grundy. All we can do is make the best choices possible with the available information at hand. Based on that, no SuperCoach worth his salt would have picked him. Very unexpected that he’s played so well with Cox in the side.

  2. Ditto for me, question is whether itโ€™s worth bringing him in now for scilly at such price??? I personally think I will as will still have $227,000 for a rocky to macrae, gaff, Neale upgrade in the upcoming weeks

  3. Iโ€™ve already had my say on Jake Bloody Lloyd. I had Grundy all last year, and it would have been nice to repeat that.
But my biggest regret is passing on Dev Smith. Heโ€™s played every game and played hard in all of them. In a year where the forward line has been so difficult, I wish Iโ€™d had him there.

  4. Probably Grundy,i went with Stef due to Cox effecting his numbers. i was luckily enough to start with Lloyd and get Macrea in for Kelly very early on

  5. P Cripps.

Decided to start with M Crouch instead of Cripps as I was hesitant in selecting both Cripps and Coniglio. Crouch injured in rd2 and traded for Oliver in rd3.

Had an opportunity to select Cripps in rd14 for Holman but decided to trade Doedee to Andrews instead. Andrews lasted less than a quarter and Cripps scored 180 odd that week.

  6. Lloyd certainly. Had Mills early (a mistake), but can’t be disappointed as I replaced him with Simmo/Yeo in a double-trade.

Right now, I regret not bringing in Danger a few weeks back (with too much time up forward my key concern). Just thought I’d wait for him to drop a little more, but now I don’t have the trades to make those sorta moves unless forced upon me. While Sicily is down I can loophole Mihocek/Doedee this week to hopefully get c.80pts thanks to the Hawks Sunday fixture. Next week too if I have to. Hopefully Macrae will have dropped a few more $$s in the interim, and I can pick him up with a single trade. Can’t quite afford it right now, but will pounce if/when I can.

Good luck all. I’ve gone off topic again haven’t I?!?! ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Yep Lloyd for me too, was 2k off him when he bottomed out at 450k. Got Luke Ryan the week after which isn’t bad, but imagine if I had Lloyd instead

  8. I’d say Lloyd, but I couldn’t believe he would do that well as he burnt me towards finals last year. I figured he’d do the same, but i have been wrong so far.

I’d also say Oliver just from the fact he always ends up with a great average yet never makes into my team. Same happened last year, did so well but was never in my team.

Lastly id say Gaff just because of his consistent year. I questioned whether he could keep it up but never took the gamble on him

  9. Grundy would be nice . I did downgrade Ryder to Nank before round one and it helped to upgrade Dunkley to D Smith, wouldn’t have happened if I went Ryder to Grundy.

  10. Lloyd and Grundy for me.

I started Hibberd and Ryder ๐Ÿ™

Picking up Shuey under $400K would of been another thing I would do in hindsight.

  11. Definitely Lloyd, although if you ignore his injury you could also add Macrae into the mix.

To add insult to injury, I can’t even afford Lloyd as a replacement for Sicily.

  12. Lloyd for sure. Ive been lucky enough to avoid most of the carnage but started slowly with zerrett and m crouch. Went for Tmac early ahead of Lloyd due to nasty r14 byes and Tmac dpp. Will get Oliver this week for Boak and Macrae next week….who for remains the issue. Will head into finals ultra premo, 3 trades, and able to get Lloyd I think, and depending on match ups.

  13. Starting Martin over Grundy
    Starting Hibberd over Yeo
    Starting Armitage over O’Meara
Staying away from Cripps thinking his shoulders will buckle any minute from carrying Carlton all year

I will definetley start these guys in my team next year

  15. I upgraded to mveigh when I could have got Lloyd for a little more.
I just didnโ€™t trust Lloyd.( was already dealing with and still have hibberd in my team. I blame him)
McRae would be top of this list if it wasnโ€™t for his injury.

Started with Merrett when I probably could have managed Mitchell. I do have Mitchell now as of two rounds ago but it has been painful watching his scores all year.

Started with Goldy (instead of Grundy )and after holding both hibberd and Merrett, traded him out to Nic Nat when his form and price dropped(blaming hibberd again for that one.

I could probably go on but these spring to mind.

  16. Of the Rookies
Ronke, Higgins and not keeping Doedee
    Of the rest
Lloyd, Macrae, Grundy and possibly Tmac.

    1. By the way, that’s how damaging Billings was during that period, I had both Ronke and Higgins in my side on the Monday only to reverse trades on the Friday to avoid a donut.Watching Ronke kick 7 was like watching a pot of gold disappear right before my eyes. Billings would have to get 3 votes for being the most toxic SC player this year.Reakon he has almost single handedly derailed my season.

  17. Had McRae & Grundy all 2017, but the Cox factor & McRae loosing DPP in 2018 change my thinking. Thought there where better options than LLoyd.
If you don’t have any of them and are full Premo, then I don’t think its a problem.

  18. I don’t feel as bad knowing how many people missed out on Lloyd when he was cheap, saying that I decided to pick Simpson instead of Lloyd (after having Lloyd penciled in all week and changing at the last minute) and while that has still been a decent pick Lloyd decided to punch out a 173… talk about rubbing salt in the wounds

  19. One that didnโ€™t get away – Hibberd
