Jarred Pickett?
Good player just not fantasy relevant
You do realise fantasy relevance is not a prerequisite for the Rising Star? A nomination is, however, and Pickett hasn’t got one.
SPP, Burton & McGrath have been great but Charlie Curnow has gone past them all. For those who haven’t been watching Carlton games, look at his numbers. 14th in AFL for contested marks, averaging 99.4 SC pts in last 5 games. As Garry Lyon said on Footy Classified last night ‘this bloke is coming home like a freight train’!
No doubt he is killing it now but did he leave his run too late
Maybe, but it is a RISING Star award and he has risen like no other
It’s not just the last five rounds. He’s averaged 96 since round 14.
Carlton
Up the blues!
Mighby naming Carlton player would have been better
This is what worries about North’s stocks moving forward. We’ve played the kids this year. Lots of them. 11 have played so far this season that qualify for the rising star but ZERO nominations. Compare it to Carlton with 5 and Brisbane with 3.
Not arguing with the system, none of the guys deserve a nomination over those in the list but more talking about the direction of the club. There’s a reason why we are where we are. Hopefully they come on but when you compare it to a few of the other bottom of the ladder clubs it feels a long way back!!
Clarke, Simpkin, Durdin, Nielson, Vickers-Willis, Williams*, Hibberd, Larkey*, Wagner*, Mountford, Zurhaar* (* means they’ll be eligible next year as well).
Curnow deserves to win it, but I have a horrible feeling that a Carlton player is going to be robbed yet again.
McGrath arguably the best 1st year player I’ve seen for a long time, feel it’s definitely between Burton & McGrath IMO…..Curnow a distant 3rd
McGrath’s poise is unbelievable for his age, not to sound silly but he’s a 200+ game player for the EFC if they can retain him for his whole career.
No doubt Burton and McGrath will go on to be very good players, but Curnow could be the best player in the competition a few years from now.
Jarrod Berry very stiff to miss out on a nomination so far. Young fella definitely deserves one.
