One of the best key position backmen in the game today, Alex Rance. Always lines up on the #1 FWD and is one of the few Tigers players that consistently beats his direct opponent. After being tempted to head back home to WA over recent off-season breaks, Rance signed a long-term contract to stay at Punt Rd. (Thank Christ! – Schwarz) 😉
His first six seasons at AFL level, while quite impressive, didn’t really equate to any sort of relevance in Supercoach. Rance has lifted his game to another level over the last two years, averaging 97 & 98 SC pts as a result (2015 & 2016). It’s not that he racks up the disposals, 17 & 19 touches on average over the last two years. Rance is often one to leave his direct opponent for a big intercept mark or a Rebound50 while streaming out of defence. Along with his one percenters, these factors have pushed up his scoring ability to have him challenging for a Top6 DEF spot. His durability is also a key statistic. Rance has only missed two games over the last two seasons……..when he gave Jack Watts a clip behind the head in frustration……..no one likes being out-marked by Jack Watts 😉
There have been rumors of soft tissue problems over the pre-season and Rance is likely to be managed through the JLT Series. If he is available for Rd1, then there is nothing to stop him heading for another Top10 DEF finish while still in his prime. Have you entertained the thought of Rance in your side? Is there room for a key position player?
