Poll – Darling Please

Written by Schwarzwalder on April 26 2019

He was touted as a sneaky F3 POD during the pre-season but he’s struggling to get near the ball at the moment.  Jack Darling killed off many League wins last week with a four-qtr on-field performance of just nine pts.   Do you stick with him after that?  Or cut him loose while you can?  What advice would you give his owners / Coaches?

What to do with Jack Darling (WCE)?

  1. Eagles have GC at home next round. If the crows game was anything to go by that could be a ten goal win.

I’m think GC will do what they did last year and win 3 of the first 5 then 1 for the rest of the season. or something like that. i.e be really bad.

    1. Good points as ever GraPol.

He’s clearly a confidence player. If he does kick a bag against the Suns next week, there’s no reason it can’t kick-start a purple patch. But if it doesn’t …

As a non-owner he could be a cheap target post-byes if he starts showing something.

Sorry but I have no idea what I’d do if I owned him. He will likely lose another $50k quickly, but:
if he equals his worst average from the last 7 years, he’ll average 75.2 from here. If he can deliver a similar average to last year, he’ll average 94.0 from here.
He’s still only 26 and should be hitting his prime right now. He just looks real low on confidence.

Given it is unlikely to get worse from this point and from his price perspective (long-term), and there is much potential upside, I think I might just hold. Whatever owners decide, the decision has to be made NOW. If you don’t trade him out this week, you’re holding for a fair while yet.

      Good luck

  2. Holding.

It’s near impossible to make a straight trade with him at this stage. I’d need to downgrade for cash, then upgrade him – waste of 2 trades.
I’ll just continue to hold until he hopefully regains form.

He’s actually on my bench this week, as I’m taking Drew against the Kangas as my F6 and loopholing Baker’s 84.

    1. That especially clinched it for me. If I’m not even fielding him and he is likely to drop a ton of cash in value didn’t see the point in holding

  3. Havent used many trades so bit the bullet and offloaded for Worpel. Was hoping to hold him until at least his bye, but the cash he is gonna drain and faith that worpedo will finish as a top5 foward was enough to give the flick

  4. I had him till now, flirted with holding him until a couple of days ago because I am mainly playing for league wins but then ended up upgrading him to Walters.

Playing in the wet this weekend at Kardinia Park I am expecting another low score and that would have forced me to hold for a while and I didn’t want to fall into that trap. Going into this week I had only used the 1 trade (R’OB for Parker last week) and used 2 this week Clark to Baker via Moore and Darling to Walters

  5. Hold.
I am a non owner but I rate him highly and believe he’ll come good. If you have started him and are going to keep him, then the money is irrelevant. You only lose money if you trade. True it sucks that people will get him dirt cheap (Including me) You started him, back him to do what you brought him in for. You’ll kick yourself when he’ll go 181 and you lost money selling him. Key position forwards will be up and down.

  6. I’ve ended up holding.
Toyed with trade options, if other rookies had of fattened up more I could of got 2 decent premos in by darling and a rookie out, however at this early stage couldn’t find something I liked.
I traded out butters for baker, upgraded Collins to laird this week. Trading feels like a loss, will loop when it suits tho.
In fact this week, field petrucelle or darling for bakers score is my conundrum- have bines to loop so can wait right til the end of the round

  7. Disappointed with his current performance which is further compounded by being a port supporter and bypassing Boak who was around the same price range and had sufficient funds for.

Holding as there are more pressing issues in regards to cash generation from rookies this season and intend to get a discounted J Westhoff to eventually loop with J Darling.
