No noise is boring. There is already no atmosphere, let’s create a bit of harmless fun.
I guess, but I think if they’re going to do it in the name of fun, they should go all-out: animal noises, robot noises, fart noises, Jar Jar Binks noises… whatever noises! They could even let the viewers vote before each quarter on what noises they want for that quarter.
100% agreed. Round 1 felt a bit boring with no atmosphere and noise.
We’ve been listening to recorded laughter for years on sitcoms, why not play it after free-kicks…..???

If it shuts up Brian Taylor and Co. trying to overcompensate with their “banter”, I’d have fake noise in a flash.
Just like critics hating umps trying to make themselves part of the game, let’s make 2020 commentary about the actual football match rather than the ego’s of the “celebrities” who happen to call it.
They can’t even get score reviews right, how are they going to match the background noises appropriately?
I’m just watching the NRL on Nine now. I admit I was sceptical at first, but the artificial crowd noise is working for me.
It’s not as good as the real thing of course, but in the meantime it’s a good substitute.

Agreed. It was a much more visceral experience without the crowd, hearing all of the crunching tackles and the players’ exertive noises. Plus, listening to the in-game discussion between players, listening to their tactics as they happen. Fascinating.
Any fake cheering would dilute the intensity of the battle, especially if, for example, they don’t take into account the strength of the support of each team. I can’t imagine a game between, say, GCS and RICH would make any sense with an equal representation of crowd cheering for both teams.
AND, if they’re going to include cheering, are they also going to include booing? I can’t imagine how they would replicate the instinctive nature of the crowd to “BOO” a particularly bad or supposedly-biased umpiring decision.
All up, it seems like a mistake. Personally, I’d rather have the radio commentary on in-sync with the live telecast than listen to the fake cheering noises. Or maybe they could play it on 2 different stations, one with and one without the noise? Probably too much to ask, eh?
