Poll – Feel the Byrne

Written by Schwarzwalder on April 18 2016

As requested by Yiorgiakis…………

There’s no denying it, the Byrnes boys are going to be very popular in trading this week.  With the job security of Tom Ruggles shaking like a polaroid picture, the Byrneseses (I was saying Boo-urns) seem like safe downgrade options.

Darcy Byrne-Jones (PTA, $123 900):  61 & 97 SC pts in his first two appearances.  21 disposals and a goal on Sunday against the Giants from 80% Time On Ground.  His spot looks fairly secure in this under-performing Port line-up.  Break Even of -85, projected BEs of -60 & -6.  Next five opponents: GEE, RICH, BRL, CARL, WCE.

Ciaran Byrne (CARL, $123 900):  67 & 67 SC pts from his first two games in 2016.  Collected fifteen touches (ten contested) but had seven clangers against the Dogs on Saturday night.  Had his face rearranged during the 3rd qtr but came back on to finish the game.  I see no reason why he wouldn’t get  a regular game at the Blues over the next 3-4 weeks (at least).  BE of -61, projected BEs of -12 & 24.  Next five opponents: FREO, ESS, COLL, PORT, NTH.

Can we afford a double downgrade this week?  With all the latest injuries and suspensions?  Or do we have to split the two?  Let us know in the poll & comments below………..

Which of the Byrnes Boys is the best downgrade option this week?

  1. Didn’t see Carlton, but the Port one looked pretty good in a poor form side. personally, don’t have the choice of one or both as I have to cull J.J.

  2. I’m in a dilemma – please HELP:
T/U : JJ to DBJ and Sam Gray to Z.Merret (left over 250K)
T/D: JJ to Biggs and Sam Gray to Buddy (left over 15K).

Sam gray has to go unfortunately, given him three chances to redeem himself.
    Thoughts appreciated.
    Cheers.

  3. Will be trading JJ to one then maybe get both as Sam gray just isn’t working out for me so could go double downgrade and have like 700K in the bank then upgrade season would be upon us

  4. The job security of rookies this year is becoming as important as their scores. I have Gresham, Dunkley, Hewett and Papley. Playing and scoring (albeit medium scores) is better than waiting three weeks for a third or fourth game. Thus I reckon both Byrnes is a good move.

  5. Byrne-Jones given 2nd best for Port on after-game radio summary and in the Advertiser today. Would have thought he’s safe for at least 4 games then see where he goes from there.

      1. Also Garland in Def still to return for the Dees. Wagner is a talent, but his run in the senior team will likely be short lived.

  6. As long as Martin is actually ok for the weekend (looks to be), Paps and Milera out for the Burn boys via a few DPPs.

  7. Might be worth Considering Jarryd Lyons too. Job security until the byes you’d think, with injuries to Crouch and Milera, and on the bubble.

Was unlucky not to be in the starting 22 in round 1 imho.

  8. Is it worth bringing in both Byrnes for papley and milera, via dpp, but if so will have moved adams, brown and tippa to the forward line, losing my forward-defense linkage?
