Poll – Gray & The Chad

Written by Schwarzwalder on April 29 2016

A fair bit of carnage at the selection table this week!!  Two players, in particular, from Port Adelaide have got a lot of Supercoaches scratching their heads.

Robbie Gray is undoubtedly Port’s best player but has been a little out-of-sorts over the last two weeks.  He’s now expected to miss 2-3 weeks with a hamstring injury suffered at training on Wednesday night. Currently at $550k, his price will drop sharply again when he returns, thanks to a BreakEven of 195.

Chad Wingard started the season well against the Saints but hasn’t scored over 60 pts since then.  He’s now out for a week with delayed concussion.  Having already plummeted in price to $434k, his large BreakEven of 157 will ensure further losses in value when he returns.

So what advice would you give for owners of Robbie Gray & Chad Wingard?  Trade or Hold?  Let us know in the polls………

  1. I guess everyone’s entitled to their own strategy, but I honestly can not believe the majority would trade Robbie Gray. Two weeks ago he was a must have in the mids. If he comes back in two weeks time and starts pumping out 120s again, like he did in the first three rounds, what then? Do you trade him back in?
I admit I don’t have him, but if I did, it’s not even debatable. Hold for this week, at the very least.

    1. His gonna miss 2-3 weeks maybe more and has a very high breakeven so gonna leak cash when he comes back now is your chance to trade him for someone of value

    2. Yeah i would. If he hots form again. Its a strange one. Like rockliffe did it last year. If he starts to smash his 140s with his 10 tackles a game will people pick him back up at bargain price.

  2. Lucky me has both. Holding RGray for now as I’ve got Fyfe also and his replacement is the priority.

Really scratching my head on the Wingard question. If I trade there’s one more spot that needs to be filled to get to full premium. But is he even a premium with the crap output he’s delivered so far.

    Hhhhmmmm….

  3. Lucky I traded in Gray 2 weeks ago for his cabbage scores and now injury. Still no choice gotta hold and take the hit. Not happy about it but.

  4. i just got gray in for 600k and he scored 70 and 50 odd he has to be traded. 2-3 weeks or so projected very high breakeven and is 1 punch up away for being rubbed out for a week. may jump back onto him later

  5. It’s really hard to take in knowing that I traded in Gray only a few weeks ago for Rocky, but unless there’s more information (following scans on the injury), I will likely be holding Gray too, as I still firmly believe he can finish within the top 10 Mids before the season is out.

  6. I gotta admit, I’m really torn on this one……….
I started with Gray, was keen on him all pre-season. But worst case scenario……he’s out for three, then needs a week or two to find his feet. And like Nateo says, he’s only a love tap away from a suspension………holding for now but with the rolling lockout, anything could happen……

    1. Yep same – had him since the start and was a handy POD in the early rounds. Annoying!

Keen to hear what the diagnosis is after he has scans today – 3 or more and I’ll likely trade, given hamstring injuries have a high chance of reoccurrence.

  7. If you can cover Gray then hold is a no-brainer. I got one good score out of him so I understand the frustration. But say you bring in a Parker and he gets injured your situation just compounds

However, If you have other injuries in the mids and no reasonable cover, that would be the only reason to trade..

Having said that I traded Rocky for Gray and look now.. Tough call

  8. He’s been a less than ideal replacement for Rocky but I’m going to hold. It’s a long season and trades are gold. He’s been on a knife’s edge with the report card and I’m hoping he’ll cool his head during his down time.

Bright side, he’s opened a loophole option for me to VC Gawn.

    Stay strong!

  9. why is everyone so keen to trade wingard out? he is only missing the one week.
He showed in week one he can go large and two of his low scores have been due to injury.
He was rushed back after one week following the hammy injury so who is to know if the 2nd low score was also due to him being a bit underdone.
I am going to hold him a few more weeks.

    1. I love the sporadic amnesia many coaches suffer. I’m over here licking my lips personally. He was EVERYWHERE against the saints and I was losing my mind. He’s copped some poor luck and been hampered by injury since by all reports. The Chad under 400k got me like Big Kev.

  10. I think both should be held unless you’re gonna cop donuts. Don’t have Gray but I have Wingard and will use him as a loophole this week. He’s been rubbish so far but he’s too good not to bounce back, and 2 of his bad scores have been affected by injury.

  11. I don’t get why people worry about the price of their premiums when they trade them in. You trade them in to be keepers, not to make you cash… Once they’re in that’s it
Only time you’d worry about a premiums price is when you need to trade one out with injury

Gray is a bona fide premium without question

  12. He did the hamstring on Wednesday at training. I think that even if it’s not a serious one, he’ll be out for rounds 6-8. The 3 rounds are against teams at the lower end of the table, Richmond, Brisbane and Carlton.
