Poll – Has Libba’s Time Come?

Written by Schwarzwalder on April 30 2019

Lone GC Supporter asked the question in the Polling Station yesterday and we’re only happy to help………

In hindsight, Libba was an absolute bargain at $300k and we all should’ve jumped on for one of the better ‘Fallen Premiums’ in recent memory.  In the six games to date, Libba is running at a 105avg after scoring 75, 128, 150, 106, 98 & 71. Some Coaches are starting to wonder whether they should stick with Libba or use him as a ‘stepping stone’ to an uber-Premium right now.  What would you advise these Coaches?

Is it time to move Libba on?

  1. Didn’t start Libba but would highly recommend coaches that started him depending on their team’s priorities to trade him in the next fortnight.

Currently less than a $100,000 difference to grab J Kelly who hasn’t dipped below 80 in his last 40 matches and only under 90 4 times in the same period. Has a very appealing upcoming draw pre bye (Stk, Haw, Carl, Melb, GC, Adel, NM) and has displayed a tendency to perform better in wins than losses.

    Wins: 119.15 from 27 (8/27 below 100, 11/27 120+)
    2017: 119.31 from 13 (3/13 below 100, 6/13 120+)
    2018: 121.91 from 11 (4/11 below 100, 5/11 120+)
    2019: 108.33 from 3 (1/3 below 100)

    Losses: 97.36 from 11 (7/11 below 100)
    2017: 101.33 from 6 (2/6 below 100)
    2018: 91.5 from 4 (4/4 below 100)
    2019: 97 from 1

Also a $75,000 difference from N Fyfe and if you’re willing to wait a week or 2 on Macrae and his potential price drop then there could also be less than a $100,000 difference between LIbba and Macrae.

If you already have all of 3 then the situation becomes a bit difficult.

    1. He’s gone up in value to the tune of $187k, which is better than all my cows so far. I don’t see he him being in my team come finals so I’ll think I’ll let him go this week.

    2. You’re a machine mate – love your work. Every time I see your posts I can’t help thinking of Neo in the matrix when he sees in binary code. When you watch footy is all you see stats?
      Keep up the good work!

  2. Only one poor score since round 1. I suspect most of us would have bigger priorities right now.

  3. See the potential for Libba to score 100 or more a lot more regularly than Walsh is the same thought said for Walsh if he can go to an Uber move him
    T/u Libba
    T/d Walsh

    1. An aggressive move assuming you have one of J Scrimshaw/X Duursma and approximately 50,000+ remaining salary could be:
      RD7:
      Out: T Liberatore, In: N Fyfe/J Kelly
      RD8:
Out: S Walsh, J Scrimshaw/X Duursma, In: J Macrae, N Answerth (Bris) (assuming he gets named)

    2. Walsh with a BE of 67.
Libba with a BE of 115.

      Walsh up against North Melbourne.
      Libba up against Richmond.

If Libba has a poor game (70-80) he loses money. If he has a solid game (100-110) he loses money. If he has an outstanding game (120+) he’s set to rise for a few weeks.

If Walsh has a poor game (60-70) he holds value. If he has a solid game (90-100) he makes money and his BE goes up (but not above his average). If he has an outstanding game (110+) he’s set to rise for a few weeks.

I think there’s less risk with keeping Walsh. Almost no chance he loses money, and a good chance he makes money. Libba a chance to drop in value, more likely he holds around the same mark. But then you’re asking the same question the following week, and potentially rolling the dice again in the hope he goes big and last week’s poor score falls out of his rolling average and his breakeven drops.

My burning question for the week now is whether I trade Libba or Moore for Fyfe. Moore stands to make more money, but that trade represents a significantly bigger increase in points (75 -> 120 vs 100 -> 120). And unless Moore rips out a big one, he’s probably just a slow burn for another $30-40k from here to the byes.

  4. Just think he is one of those moves you make later in the season, if needed. If he keeps pumping out an average of close to 100 then get the rest of your side sorted first, surely?

  5. Time to be aggressive for me. He’s likely becoming Nat Fyfe this week.
Just waiting on Whitfield’s final status before pulling the trigger. Could bring in Lloyd for him via Drew and Moore, but was hoping to wait a week on the one.

    1. Walsh with his late Bye, is close to last traded rookie for me.

Unless he is injured or set to lose a heap of cash, I will stick fat.

I traded T Kelly too early last year.

  6. I am really unsure to be honest. I know I am definitely bringing in Fyfe this week for either Libba or Atkins.

I got 600k in bank and doing another big upgrade in the backline so do I save some money by going Libba or get rid of Atkins.

    T/U – Trade Libba
    T/D – Trade Atkins

    1. Not sure of your mid setup but if fyfe means you are pushing walsh/constable to m7/m8 then get rid of aitkins.

Libba & Fyfe is better then Fyfe and a rookie at least until byes

  7. Hold Liba. At least one more week. Fyfe needs at least another full game. If Libba is your biggest problem, then go ahead. Otherwise he is punching above his weight. Who hasn’t had a bad score ?

    1. Dave, soccer is not that good when City is running away with it and Spurs are still in the Champions League. Tex goes huge every few years, last time in round 20 …2017..good luck

  9. Strongly recommend trading libba this week, such a high BE and some mids (Fyfe) ready to get in. It’s his time, he’s done his job and enjoy the ride.

  10. I wasn’t thinking about trading Libba this week, but some of the points make sense.

However a certain Robbie Gray needs to be replaced and with his drop in value, I’ll have to roll the dice and hope libba racks up the points again.

    1. Great poll question
I think the results reflect the needs basis.
Sure there are low performing rookies that could go first but replacements are still pretty thin.
If I didn’t have Liard or Kelly I would go that direction and keep Libba. Will be good to trade next week if needed but also a handy m8/9
For me Fyfe is too good to pass up and Libba is how to get him.

      1. I’m not going anywhere near Fyfe. The guy always misses games. Maybe risk it going into finals but not before for me.
