Poll – How Many Trades Left?

Written by Huttabito on April 19 2017

Lisa asked for a poll, Lisa got the thumbs up, Lisa gets a poll! Simple as that. So how many trades have you got left?

After you make your trades for Rd5, how many will you have left?

  1. Thanks for the poll guys. I’m looking at 26 IF I follow through on my thoughts of trading out JOM & Roughy this week for Balic & a premium MID or FWD. Always good to see that I’m not out of control, yet.

    1. I’m out of control 😉 First four trades have included N.Riewoldt(2-6, my arse!!), J.Smith & Max Gawn. Now looking to purge Team Schwarz of O’Meara………Daisy 2.0, feel like he’ll either spud things up or just stay injured. Better to bring in a keeper and be done with it……

    1. Same here. 6 used, but each trade has improved my side so far and some have been forced. I was hoping I would only need to trade one of Riewoldt, Gawn Omeara and Roughy not all 4 by round 5!

  2. 25 at present. May pull the pin on O’Meara or Roughy or both. Florent has also woefully underperformed.

Or may sit tight, then double trade next week when some options come online.

Cash generation is key at this point. 11.4 million and rising rapidly. Trades are a great thing but without the cash to upgrade it’s swapping deck chairs on the titanic.

  3. I promised myself I wouldn’t make stupid trades this season then traded out Riewoldt. Dumb!!!

2 trades down so far and thinking of making 2 trades this week which will turn Roughie into Kennedy or Taranto into a premium

    1. When he comes out himself and says 2-6 weeks, you can’t hold onto him. Not Rd1 of the season with 30 trades. Horrible decision though, had him in all 3 formats and got rid of him in all 3. Should of at least kept him in one to make myself feel a little bit better. Now I’m just sour…

      1. There are those amongst us who held him.
Thought I might have to trade him out round three before price changes if he still looked weeks off but it worked out well.
I must admit , I was fairly close to trading him to Steele.

      2. I would agree, Hutta, except this exact thing has happened to me before so I decided to hold for 1 week and test the waters but got cold feet part-way through the round!

        1. I agree with Hutta, every decisions easy in hindsight, but most of us had Smith, Hibberd and Eddy who were all injured/dropped (Eddy came back as a late in) plus a heap of other rookies who didn’t look like they were gonna last long, given all the other carnage trading looked the safest option. Well done to those who held, but if a similar situation comes up again I’ll trade again.

    2. I traded him too. When the player says 2-6 weeks at the most price critical time of the year what else can you do?

  4. How can we dance
    With the pink batts sparking
    How can we sleep
    Whilst installers frying……

    A national tragedy

    1. If you are trying to make a political comment, it’s

      a) the wrong place

      And

      b) bloody stupid to conflate federal ministerial decisions with state based workplace health and safety legislation

      And

      C) worksite safety is the responsibility of the principle contractor on the worksite anyway.

Best you stick to footy. Because you seem to be no good at OH&S.

      1. Bwahahaha, comrade lectures me on a) and then gives us paragraphs of the ALP&CFMEU mantra….

        As I said – a national disgrace.

        1. HH was correct about point a) and I believe he works in Workplace safety so he knows his laws – I’m sure he’ll correct me if I’m wrong.

Listen to the thumbs mate and save the political stuff for the political sites as nobody appreciates it here. This is our relax and enjoy sport site.

  5. 25. Three rookie corrections, one rookie long term injury (smith), and J.Steven. In hindsight I probably could have held Steven, but who recovers from punctured lungs in three weeks? Sheesh.

Seeing Harbour Heroes on 11.4mil is deeply depressing! I’m only on 10.8 with loose change in the bank after upgrading my F5.

That might be another interesting poll: what’s your current team value (including cash on hand)?

    1. That’s 1 premo different by the end of round 4. Aggression early pays off so long as you can wind it back early.

Ok, i’ll be honest. Throwing Marchbank and Reid in early looks like a waste, either of those trade could have been Smurph and another 40k in value rather than bringing him in before last week.

And if I go with Yeo/Balic over Roughy/JOM one of them will probably be a wasted trade too.

But I will be around 12.5 million at the end of round 6 if I do it, which is a strong spot to be in, in a tough year for rookies.

The problems with aggressive early trading are simple – if you go before round 3 teams are named your sample size is too small. If you go after a player’s third round you lose at least 40% of the cash growth which comes on their first price rise.

And you have to wean yourself of the addiction of hitting the trade button at some point which can be tough. Well it certainly is for me.

Don’t forget cash is the name of the game. Many of our current rookies will struggle not just to see the 200k rise we hope for, but even the 150k we’ve had to accept in past years as break even for a trade.

Do you really hold on until round 9 or 10 in the hope of seeing $200k out of Florent or Pickett? Because it ain’t gonna happen.

      1. … having said that, my team value would be better if a few ‘premos’ hadn’t slashed big numbers off their price (i’m looking at you, Hannebery).

Glad i’m not the only one considering the Yeo/Balic combo this week. I haven’t had Yeo in my team the past, but by the sounds of things he’s burned plenty of coaches before. Hope he’s finally found some consistent form.

  6. Just the two forced outs as I saw it – Max and Smith – marking time using the “trades are gold” philosophy.

Looping Adams to the mid via Hibberd this round and if that works will use none and keep JOM for another week on the bench to monitor. If not JOM to a premo Mid. Maybe JOM to Smurph Friday, or maybe SPP to Smurph or….

    Confused, me too!

  7. 27 right now.

I might have to burn 2 this week to give myself the best chance in the STC CUP.

I’m usually conservative with trades this early.

    Dam you Roo Bloke!
