Poll – How Many Trades?

Written by Schwarzwalder on April 9 2018

Alex A asked us in The Polling Station if we could get a gauge on the number of trades left for our Coaches.

So how about it, Coaches?  Have you been pounding the Big T button early this year?  Or have you managed to avoid the injury/form issues of certain premiums?  Did you miss any of the ‘top’ rookies to start the season?  Tell us your tales of woe……

How many trades do you expect to have left after the completion of Rd4?

  1. 30 trades still left for Catta’s Clan, like many of us a couple of rookie injuries to look at before R4 though!

Currently 431 points off the pace, sitting in 4338th

Like all of us, I’ve currently left 321 points either on the pine picking the wrong rookies on the ground in R1 & R2 or last round putting the VC on the wrong player ( totally my fault )

Just shows you have to make the right decisions weekly & of course have a bit of luck, to be up at the pointy end early in the season giving yourself a fighting chance for overall glory!

    Good luck everyone 🙂

      1. Lol

The fact you posted this, tells me it’s lingering in the back of your mind though

The season last 23 rounds, the rivaraly lives on forever Bearded one 😉

  2. I dodged the injury carnage but mid price madness got me.
I took Armitage & a certain ruck whom I am too embarrassed to name. I made the corrective trade for the ruck last week and this week I plan to trade out Armitage. I am looking to bolster FWDs with Hogan via DPP but it will take me two trades being Armo & Brayshaw (freo). So this leaves me 3 trades down already.
My question for coaches – is it smart to trade out Armo & Brayshaw for Hogan & cheaper rookie?

T/U: Do it! Armo will be upgraded anyway so it may as well be now since Hogan is looking like he could be a keeper

T/D: 3 trades after 3 rounds is too many. And besides, Brayshaw is too good a cow to downgrade

    1. Depends whether on not you’re going for ranking or not. I’m personally trading Armo out. But I generally try to go for rankings over leagues. Hogan is risky imo. His two best scores against lesser sides. There’s not much to go on. In saying that he’s coming up the ground and getting a lot of ball. So he might be a bargain

      1. Wognuts – I am trying to win my cash leagues (head to head)

Salamander – the ruck was Saaaaand ….. #%^& I cannot say it

  3. Half as many used as last year. Pity about the injuries but only one forced a trade, the others were corrective.

  4. 27 Trades left, current rank 8007.

2 trades used due to my own stupidity, traded Beams and Rocky out after round 1!

1 trade used because I had missed Kelly

I’m pretty happy with my team though now, and unless I get an injury I shouldn’t need to trade for two weeks, next planned trade at the minute is Oliver in a couple of weeks time

    1. This is a genuine question, how did you miss Kelly? I would’ve thought the 30 odd % of teams that don’t have him would all be ranked 100k plus and have no idea. What made you not want to take him?

      1. Forgive me, talking nonsense, while getting mithered at work!

The only thing i did wrong with Kelly was leave him on the pine round 1 (still subconsciously hurting me obviously) my brain is also trying to erase the fact i rage traded Hibberd to Shaw.

        I need to leave work!!

  5. Haven’t used 1 yet but due to Ryan being injured, I’ll have do something this week.

Was thinking maybe Waterman, I’ve only got 98k in the kitty so not much I can really do.

  6. Potentially 26 by the end of the round.
Injuries to M Crouch and Z Giles-Langdon required trades in RD3 with C Oliver and L Ryan selected. Oliver had his lowest score since Rd13 2016 and lowest score in a win since Rd 12 2016 and L Ryan copped an injury.

Considering several options this round including J McGovern, LDU and L Ryan (depending on injury severity) being traded, therefore S Lycett looks like he’ll be staying for approximately another month.

  7. Had to trade Ryder to Stef Martin and I also pretty much needed to trade Langdon (but I think I made the mistake of Venables instead of Waterman) given he was probably going to come back through the NEAFL and there was a chance he wouldn’t make the side. My only luxury trade was Naughton to Bonner and I think time will tell if that was a good decision (3 fk’s against took Bonner’s R3 score from 80 to 68) .
Ryan might have to be a 4th trade if he’s going to be out for the longer than 6 weeks and at this stage that seems likely. I will probably look to turn him into Ed Richards by moving both Garlett and Finlayson.

Not good but this type of luck won’t last and many will be in the same boat. At this stage I regret the Langdon trade but I didn’t see another injured rookie coming so soon or such a bad score from Venables (even though I wasn’t remotely interested in him during preseason)

  8. Haven’t made any yet and relatively happy with my side, even though I haven’t fielded all my keepers for a round yet (missing Danger round 1, Kreuzer round 2, and Sicily round 3). But I think I am going to be trading out a big fella this week as I am still worried about Kreuzer.

He’s averaging 80, brought him in expecting 105-110 for the year. I didn’t see the game, can anyone comment if he looked hampered or was he moving around well? If it’s going to take him 4-5 weeks to get back to scoring well, I may trade down to Nank or NicNat (maybe Grundy?) and use the cash to do an early upgrade on a fallen premo.

Other than that, just Billings and Oliver pissed me off this week but no point in trading either of them as I expect them to bounce back.

    1. I’m in exactly the same boat as you. Can’t afford to carry an 80 avg for $600k. I’m going to trade him for Nic Nat and pocket the $120k. Kruezer didn’t do much wrong on Friday, Grundy just had the beating of him. Didn’t help that Carlton were absolutely awful.

  9. Started with Zerret and Crouch so happy to be in top 4%. Crouch to Cripps and Langdon to L Ryan so far. Depending on length of Ryan on sidelines might keep him…at least until someone else with a 3 week price rise of $112k comes along. Either Garlett or Fritsch to Henry looks like only trade this week. Got the rookies right bar injuries so happy to average one trade a week if necessary up to r14, then come home with 16 trades for final 9 rounds.

  10. 26 Trades left , currently top 1.5k , top 15 are ave 100+ next 5 ave 90+.Feel I can let the team settle now and concerntrate on cows and byes.Would like to have about 12-15 trades left post byes.
Corrective trades ( Akin to being a Vegan in a butcher’s shop!!)
    Out Cox, Christensen, Hibberd,Barry(slow burn)
    In Acres, Bonner, Walters, Hayes

Cox and Hibberd was a good move as it freed up cash to get Acres and Walters.Probably could have sat on Christensen and I decided on Hayes as a loophole.Early days but in the main I’m happy with where the team’s at.Only rookie I’ve missed is L.Ryan but he may have an extended time out and has proved to be worthy as an expensive rookie when he comes back.Still a downgrade option

  11. My 3 trades so far:

    1) Lycett to English. Was very disappointed in Lycett round 1 and with NicNat doing ok it was very much a rage trade, although there was some science behind it. If English makes even close to the scores Lycett does he will earn far more cash, and the doggies ruck stocks and forward stocks are in a lot of trouble.

Of course, English spudded in Round 2 after I traded him in and Lycett went big, but normal service has now resumed, and Roughy out with concussion, Schache injured and Boyd underperforming in the VFL it looks ok for now, touch wood.

    2) Hibberd to Simpson. A luxury trade or s wasted one? Possibly. But the dees structure down back is a big question and a lot of people are concerned that Hibberd will not be performing the same as last year.

    3) Giles-Langdon to Fisher. As 2 and 3 were done simultaneously, the options were premo forward plus Bonner or Premo defender plus Fisher. Fisher had higher average and lower price, and at this stage I’m still far from certain on the forwards, where Simpson seemed a certainty.

I could have done better on 2 and 3 in round 3, but I think I’ll wait a few more weeks before I judge those trades.

My staring rookies were sweet. Finlayson, Murray, Doedee, Kelly, Holman, Banfield, Barry, Brayshaw, Fritsch, Waterman, Garlett and ZGL. Pity I couldn’t name them on the field in the right order.

Out of the rookies, I brought Garlett in at last minute round 1 when Ryan was extended bench, so dodged a bullet there, but ZGL I copped. Brayshaw needs to go, so I might be jumping on the Henry train this week. Will probably hold Naughton and Garlett for now.

  12. Pulled the trigger on Brayshaw to Ryan and felt like a genius until Ryan got injured. Might hold for a week and go to Higgins

  13. Hm. Stuck with Lycett & 230k in the bank. Have Langdon and LRyan on the pine.

T/u Downgrade Ryan and upgrade Lycett to premo ruck + fwd/mid rookie
T/D Hold Lycett, get Danger next week

Comment: Premo rucks. Leaning Grundy/Jacobs. Have Gawn.

      1. Mids: Titch, Dusty, Fyfe, Crips, Zerret, Parker, Kelly, Holman (Brayshaw, Banfield, D. Fogarty)

Fwd: Mclean, DSmith, Petracca, Billings, Fritsch, Garlett (Ryan/Langdon)

        30 trades left.

    1. I’m far from sold on Danger. He’s got a few weeks to drop price. Remember he needed to exceed his 130 to maintain price, due to the expansion of the player pool.

He will be shedding price for a couple of weeks. He’s at 1% to make his be. He will come good, but a couple of weeks down the track you might well be able to offload cash cows for him at a reduced price.

  14. Thoughts on Liam Ryan, not sure how long he’s out for, but if his out for an extended period and you need a loophole option then I would hold. His likely to finish up closer to 400k so there is plenty left in the tank money wise. If his injury is season ending then I would trade. I don’t have him at the minute but if his return could wait till around rnd 7-8 then he’ll make a great downgrade option.

  15. No trades as yet , thinking of Brayshaw to Crowden with DPP , about 100k cheaper and should make some more cash this week. Neither would be in the team long term and I think Crowden would score similar to Brayshaws current output.

  17. 28 – raged on Hibberd and have to sack Ryan

My (“girlfriend’s”) burner team down to 26 because I threw a hissy fit over being about $1k short of going Crouch to Oliver and BURNED my man Bailey Banfield at the stake to get it done.

  18. Ok I’m going to admit I did a really dumb thing b4 R1 – was on a long day trip and arrived 1/2 hour before game start Rich v Carlton. So I panicked and had to make some last minute adjustments to team, but in my haste I confused Chol (who wasn’t picked) with Shai Bolton (who was picked ).
So I still have Chol as fed and now lost Ryan as well, no fwd bench!
    Should I trade as –

T/U get rid of Ryan for a bubble boy (ie: keep Chol and when you win it all with 29 players you’ll be a dead set legend)

T/D get rid of both, cut your losses now

If I do 2 trades I’ll have used 5 by end of R4.
