Poll – Kelly Or Treloar?

Written by Schwarzwalder on June 19 2018

This one has been a popular theme in the Trade Talk thread as well as the Poling Station.  With many Coaches looking for that last M8 upgrade target, they’ve been narrowing it down to a choice of Josh Kelly (GWS) or Adam Treloar (COL).

Kelly has been slowed down this season with groin / hamstring issues that kept him out for seven weeks.  In the six games he has played, Kelly has still averaged 110pts.  A low score of 91 pts highlights his incredible consistency.

Many Coaches have been burned by Treloar in the past and are still cautious about trading him in.  Despite a somewhat disappointing season in 2017, Treloar is averaging 111 in 2018.  He’s only missed hitting the ton on two occasions thus far (including four scores over 120+).

So who will bring you more pts in the run home?

Who is the better upgrade target for the remainder of the season?

  1. I would have voted for Kelly if not for the injury risk. At this time of year, most people don’t have enough trades left to risk bringing in a guy who is rumoured to be suffering from osteitis pubis.

  2. i don’t have enough trades left but am taking the gamble anyway. bigger ceiling and super consistent. if he goes down, i’m hoping i’ll be able to go straight swap to another premium.
i’m 1000th and trying to get higher. if i was already up there and wanted to stay, i’d probably go Treloar!

  3. Kelly has only played the 6 games and he isn’t gonna have the luxury of playing Gold Coast each week. If I was sure he was at his best I would go him however he seems like he is going to hover around a 100 average based on the rest of his scores.
Treloar a bit less consistent but I think Collingwood’s run home is marginally better as well so I’m going him.

      1. easily Skyarm:
Fyfe, Titch, Cripps, Oliver, Coniglio, Dusty, Danger (I think / pray he will warm up in the back end) Callan Ward, Lachie Neale and Ollie Wines … all have very good 3 and particularly 5rnd averages …

Also, have to consider it’s not what they average to now … it’s what they will average for the rest of the year… still, each to their own!

        1. Fair call, but I’m hoping Kelly will ‘warm up in the back end’ as you are with Danger. Personally don’t think Kelly has even got started yet, has been both managed and playing within himself. Considering his TOG these last three weeks, I reckon he’ll be top 3 MIDs to season’s end. I hope so anyway. We all have different opinions, thank god or we’d all have the same teams, but Persoally think it’s worth taking the risk.
Would be content with any you mention and with one final spot left to fill, am considering the three of those I don’t have.

        2. I rate Dusty but his calf injury and form raise question marks for me. I need to see more before bringing him in.

Having said that, Fritch to Dusty via dpp in a couple of weeks has a nice ring to it.

  4. Seems to me with Macrea Injured and Dusty in cruise mode…

The top 6 mids on ave are Fyfe, Titch, Oliver, Cripps, Danger and Ed Curnow.

Treloar (110.7)and J Kelly (109.5) round out the Top 8.

Personally I cant see Ed Curnow keeping up that ave. Gibbs was $600k this time last year before he (and the Blues)dropped off badly.

There is a heap of Midfield talent that could also ave 110+ from here on in.. Wines, Selwood, Zorko , Cogs, Parker , JPK, Neale.. Just to name a few.

Will Dusty fire up post Byes?

Personally I think I’m going Treloar I didn’t own him last year.
The pies have a pretty good draw and I think he is less of an injury risk than J Kelly.

  5. Kelly has more upside but more of a floor as well based on recent form, Cogs’s presence in the side and his injury risk. Treloar will go 110 in my opinion whereas Kelly could go between 100-120 with an injury risk attached.

  6. I rate Kelly highly and started with him unfortunately. The OP casts a large shadow but he might be worth the risk.

He scored well last week with Cogs out, but other games this year indicate he scores less with Cogs in the team. I will wait to see how is scores with Cogs in the team this week.
