Poll – Long Gawn

Written by Schwarzwalder on April 10 2017

The #1 Ruckman from 2016 was a popular starter for many Supercoach teams in 2017.  After a very tidy start to the opening two games, Gawn has suffered a hamstring injury against Geelong on Saturday.  Scans have revealed that Gawn has tendon damage which will rule him out for a few months.  So who are his best replacements?

If you don’t already have Nankervis (like myself) then I’d suggest that he is the first option that you look at.  He can take the R1 position until you can upgrade a FWD rookie to another elite RUCK………

Should Nankervis be the first option for replacing Gawn?

OR if you already ‘have Nank The Tank’………….

  1. Mr Jake Spencer, Gawns replacement.

Averaged 94 in 2015 (4 games) before Injury and losing the mantle to Gawn dropped his scoring.

Priced at $236,400 but could make a fair amount of coin (similar to Witts) if he gets a 2 month extended run as the sole ruck.

Update: Gawn looks like he’ll miss 3 months.

    1. I’m tempted to do this too. I have a LOT to fix with my team and a cash injection is just what I need. Actually, a whole new team would be ideal, but I’ll go for the cash grab instead. He’ll be the sole ruck for 3 months, so it will probably mean 2 trades by season’s end. Nank was meant to be 1-3 game ruck cover for minor injuries and suspensions, not 3 months!

      Gawny 🙁

    2. I like it, I think I’ll put Preuss at R2 for 2 weeks and if Spencer looks good then go Preuss to Spencer, if not Preuss to Grundy/Stef.

  2. In the interests of trade conservation, I say Martin, then Grundy, and forget the rest. Goldstein is not a lone ruck this year; everyone else is not a top 3 ruck and/or will need to be traded again at some stage.
If I still had 30 trades, I might think about Witts. He’s still good value.

    1. Really like Martin but he still has chance of sharing the ruck with Smith at some stage. You would think Brisbane would wont to get games into him this year.
      I would go with Grundy

  3. have sandi, and have Nank in the forward line. I’m thinking down to witts who should get up to somewhere round $400k plus, then back to gawn (or another fallen promo) when he’s fit. frees up a lot of cash too !
    T/U good plan
T/D dont stuff around just get martin in

  4. Early preseason I thought Goldy Gawn was going to be a beauty. Glad I went with Sandi Witts instead. Everyone loves a cheap ruck.

  5. What about if you already have Nank in the FWD line, trade out Gawn for a premium in another position using DPP – Maybe add that in the poll?
I’m thinking of Gawn to Newman via DPP this week (giving 29 trades left) then next week upgrading someone to Hannebery etc

  6. I have both Gawn and Nank. Nank in FWD line though.

Thinking just leaving Nank in FWD line and Gawn -> Martin?

would give me Sandi + Martin in rucks.

    Good plan?

    1. Ive gone with the swing Nank to the rucks and bring in Rooooo. Do lose that flexibility though, but im not confident enough to bring in Martin and having 3 collingwood premiums do i bring in Grundy for 4?

    1. Looks like he’ll lose that Rare Gem status this week, TDA. I have Gawn but don’t yet have Nankervis. Looks like a no-brainer. He can fill in the Ruck until the “solo” Rucks consolidate themselves.

    2. I’m in the same boat, DA. SMartin was my only true POD until now. Like you said though, we’ve saved cash and a trade by starting with him
