Poll – Most Pts DEFs

Written by Schwarzwalder on May 14 2019

Alza has asked the question of Top 6-10 in each position from the Polling Station and we’re only happy to help……….

If you understand the principle of the ‘Fallen Premium’ then you need to approach this poll in that fashion.  We’re not necessarily looking for the Top6 DEFs for the season.  We’re asking which DEFs will bring you the most pts FROM THIS POINT ONWARDS.  Players are in order of total pts scored after eight Rounds……….

Which DEFs will score the most points from now till seasons end? (six choices)

  1. Ok, this might be a contentious topic, but can Lachie Weller average 90+ for the rest of the season? He doesn’t need a ton of the ball to score well (23 and 26 touches in his two tons this year) and appears to be playing the Witherden role of being their rebounder from their back half.

He’s only $436k, has MID DPP, and is a SUPER POD at only 0.6% ownership.

I’m seriously tempted to get him in!

    T/U: He’s an absolute Lach!

T/D: What on earth are you talking about?

    1. Ben, Lachie Weller was supposed to be the next big thing at the Suns, hungry to fill Gary’s shoes. The potential is there. If he tons up again, he’ll come into calculations, But is he consistent enough? He only had 2 tons last years having played all games?

    2. Well he’s had two in four games already this year Jeannot. One of those was injury-effected too, so could have gone bigger (albeit he only missed 10% of his usual TOG)

I did just post a tardy response to AA’s comment in another thread. Here’s an edited version:

I still like the look of Lachie Weller however. He’s gone under the radar a bit as he missed three games early. But he ticks many of the right boxes for a potential breakout.
      Age: 23
      Draft pick: Rd1, pick 13
Games played last three seasons: 66/66
Ave. has improved each and every year of four
Finished last year with an 89 average (last 6 games) with only one score below 79
      3RdAve: 100.7

His role is very SC friendly this year, either loose man behind the contest coming inside their defensive 50 or rebounding off HB. He’s also in a side that has improved significantly on last year. Couple of tough games coming up, but then NTH and STK into his bye.

There is plenty to like from what I see and he has talent.

  2. Currently have Laird, Rich, Crisp, B. Smith, and Williams in the backline. Lloyd, Whitfield and Hurn on the shopping list.

Whilst I’ll upgrade my D6 rookie (Clark) to one of those 3, I’m not sure who will be the ones to go for the other 2. At the moment, it looks like B. Smith and Williams, but it could really be any one of them.

      1. Yeah I thought he was a sneaky chance last week when he became a late emergency, didn’t happen tho.

        1. yeah me too. Still, if he could bubble on his bye (presuming he kills it), then happy days!

    1. Everyone is technically on 0 points, so the poll is who would be the top 6 from HERE to the end of the season.

        1. Laird averages sub-90 when either Seedsman and/or Milera play, so he likely won’t be either!

Seedsman likely back (through the SANFL) this week and Milera v soon too.

I know which is the more exciting option AND gives you more cash for another upgrade.

          1. Hey allsaints can you enlighten me on those stats, i just had a look at 2018 scores ,
Laird ave 108 over 20 games
Milera and seedsman both played 19
            Or am i missing something..

    2. This is really only true if you’re playing for leagues. Going for overall, the aim is just to get as many points as possible throughout the season; points-per-dollar-spent and how quickly you can bring them in are far more important here.

      1. Yep. From this point, there’s 14 games left, so the difference between a 95- and 100-average is only 70 points for the season so if you can get the lower-averaging player in a week earlier, you’re probably only down 30-35 points (depending on how much the rookie you have for that extra week scores).

  3. Currently have Lloyd, Whitfield,Hurn, Sicily and Williams. 2 more premos to complete this line. Thinking probably Stewart,Ryan or Laird. Milera’s out put prior to injury concerns me with regards to Laird,so probably the 2 former.

    1. I agree Joestar but Lairds role may have changed for the better because Luke Brown is back in the team

Neale, Cripps, Macrae, Sloane,Danger, Steele, Constable, Gibbons (2 -3 more premos to complete)
        Ruc
        Grundy Goldy O’Brien

    2. Surely you only need one more premium to complete that line? I’m counting five already, assuming you count Williams. Or are you aiming to have a premium D7 as well for cover?

      1. You make a lot of sense as ever Sal. And I’m delighted to see how well you are going, after adopting such a bold strategy at season’s start. Long may it continue.
Looking forward to this week’s Anomalies.

    3. Wow. I think this is the strongest def line I have seen this season Joestar! I’m planning on keeping Williams at D6 at this stage, but may luxury trade if I have a few spares (unlikely!)
Would be very interested to see the rest of your side mate.

    4. Structurally is great too. Ryan or Blakely post Rd12 and you’re set. Hope you have stuff to do on other lines in the meantime.

  4. Currently running with:
    L Whitfield, R Laird, B Smith and Z Williams.

Will use ROB money to bring in J Lloyd and S Hurn in the next month.

Then dependent on trades and cash generation I will likely either bring in 1 of L Ryan/J Sicily/T Stewart or 1 of H Andrews/K Simpson pushing B Smith to D7.
