Poll – Need For Sheed

Written by Schwarzwalder on March 29 2019

‘I feel the need……….the need for Sheed!’

#Need4Sheed requested this one in the Polling Station last Monday……….

Dom Sheed was the Man Of The Moment in last years GF with THAT goal………he had some impressive stats during the JLT Series this year and has belted out a 144 in Rd1.  Priced at just $394k , is it possible that he is a season-long keeper?  Is it worth using a corrective trade to bring him in?

Is It Worth Bringing In Dom Sheed (WCE) As a Corrective Trade?

  1. Firstly i don’t see him finishing a top 10 mid. Maybe top 20. Therefore he’s a mid-pricer for me.

At 394K if he gets to 544K that’s still 150K gain if you choose him as a stepping stone. BUT a trade to get him in and ANOTHER to get him out is probably hard to justify.

I think he’s a classic case of well done of you have him but maybe not worth it if you don’t.

    1. who will be the 1st breakout mid pricer , traded in by the masses & on the bubble , to go down with injury in their next game , there’s at least 1 every year

    2. Totally agree….Gaff back soon could change his scoring ability back to his priced average , even just slightly higher, I agree he will not finish top 8 this year, but ya never know!

  2. Roo Bloke, I disagree. I believe that he’ll have a breakout season this year. He learned his lessons and grabbed his chance during last year finals, backed it up with a good pre season and great JLT. He scored well with Gaff in the team, I think he has adjusted to the 666 quicker than most Mids. Top 10 for me. If you havent started him, it is good to wait few rounds, but bar injury in R2 an adjustment target for me.

    1. Sick of hearing about the 666 rule. Never mind the fact it’s actually 1514151 but it’s effect on the game is nowhere near as great as people are saying.

As for Dom, no doubt he can score with Gaff in the side and I’m not questioning break out status but I don’t see top 10. That’s pretty elite company.

All that said, the way Dusty’s performed, if Dom scores 130 it’ll be hard not to rage trade Dusty to Dom and bank the coin!!!

      1. Maybe next year it’ll be LFB FB RFB LHB CHB RHB…….LOL

NOTE for some trivia update, there was never back pockets, the laws of the game did and maybe still do call them left fullback and right fullback.

YES WE ARE GETTING MORE AND MORE LIKE NETBALL. For those that know the game you will see more and more positions getting similar which will make centres and chf the most important roles.

So I’d be watching centres and half forward key players for a reasonable up grade.

      2. Hey Roo bloke and Jeanott.

        I am torn .

Have Martin . Trading Martin to Sheed could potentially give me Harry Taylor to replace Hore if he has another great game. Sheed would be at no 6 so not too worried if he does end up top 20 as other lines would be strengthened. Potentially Taylor down back would mean Moore up forward and Parker back on bench.

On the other hand Martin could come good and saving trades now will definitely assist in bye rounds although already have 2 other premium mids sane bye round as Martin

Have Sheed in wife’s team. 🙂

        T/u Sheed and Taylor

        T/d Martin and Hore

Will assess at end of round

        1. PBuzz, The correct To Do thing is to keep your premiums and only make correction to good rookies that you missed early on.
This is what every one does and generally it works (but not always , Otherwise we’ll all win and that is not the case).

Last year I held on to my structure and my rucks even though there were signs that Grundy was having a breakout year . I followed the logic: You dont trade your premiums and he has never averaged 100+ before. I ended up bringing him in later anyway , more expensive and it hurt me.
I also ended up missing his 6 scores of 130+ before the byes while at the opposite Goldstein gave me 5 sub 80 scores and I still trusted him…sounds familiar? .
Today I will tell you, dont do what I have done. The rule stands but make an exception for injuries and “Dusty” type. The second consideration is about the Player you want to bring in. I believe Sheed will have a breakout year, bar injury. Period. On top of that look at The points gained and the money you can save. Check what the Bearded Burbler has to say and believe me we are fans of Dusty. But He just aint the same Dusty no more. And the reason people had him last year and this year is the HOPE that he’ll recover his premium devastating 2017 form. There are now many more SC relevant options, you’ll even be better with a Pendles or a Selwood, nice POD’s. Back to the subject:

Dusty for Sheed and H Taylor and money is a non brainer for me.

      3. Sorry I am a first time Supercoach talker. All the pundits call it the 666 rule including Wayne Carey, Ling, Simpson and the likes. Are you saying there is no change of rules ?

        1. I think RooBloke was more going on about how this rule change at the centre bounce was supposed to increase the scoring from all teams. However after the first round, it was actually the lowest scoring first round in so many years. It makes it seem the rule had 0 effect on the scoring impact.

          Also, welcome to the site!

            1. Don’t worry if you don’t completely understand everything. Many coaches are willing to help others out in any way possible. We have articles that get others opinions on certain trades or players. This is similar to that and you have done nothing wrong.
If you have any more questions, just ask and i am sure another coach will help you for your answer!

              1. As for H Taylor …. he’s a hard pass for me. There’s waaaaay too many Geelong players that will get points ahead of him plus he’s borderline not in their best 22 these days if everyone’s fit and firing.

                1. Roo Bloke. I always put my money where my mouth is. I had an injury and two dropped rookies in defence, so I brought HT in as my first correction. He has served me well over the years as he is an honest defender who will give you around 80 with the odd ton and 20+ games per season. He has come back from injury, but he is in the leadership group, and has a new roving role. First serious injury for years , he has one or two years left in him. For this price I take him. Most importantly Scott loves him. But I agree with you if you don’t rate him. Not everyone cup of tea.

      1. He might be getting the chop from me for Sheed.

I’d need to see something quick or Sheed to have a shocker.

  3. I thought Dusty would bounce back this season but watching him closely for 2 weeks it doesn’t appear so. I can’t put up with another season of clangers, missed set shots and prancing around the fwd line….I can’t, I won’t; If Sheed or Rocky go large again, I’m pulling the trigger…At worst I’ll have an M9 loophole option +150k in the bank.

    1. So many injuries at Tigerland. They are the most unfriendly SC side of any in the competition. Last night they posted the lowest SC score of ANY side in nearly two years!
Dusty doesn’t seem to have recaptured that hunger from what I’ve seen.
Don’t think he’ll be Top10, so why not?! Nothing to lose and lots to gain 🙂

  4. Unfortunately I see him as a luxury trade..

You can’t drop a Premo for him, nor can you upgrade a Rookie as yet. Unless you’ve made a major mistake with a Mid-pricer or an injury occurs, I don’t see it as possible.

Well done to those that went early though, could be a genuine break out!

  5. Barring an injury to one of my premos between now and the end of the round, I think I’ll be passing.

Only sideways option is Zac Williams, by swing Moore to D4 and Butters to F4, but that leaves me with three rookies on-field in the forward line which is not ideal. Will mull it over, but I just don’t think it’s worth using a trade on.

Given I’ve managed to dodge every single out this week (Balta, Collins, Hore, Ridley, Cuningham, Greene, Joyce, Wagner) I feel like perhaps this is the season to play the long game. While everyone is burning trades on those guys or rage-trading their ruckman (silly duffers), I’ll submarine for a little while and back myself in to be in a better position to weather the late season carnage.

  6. There’s a decent list of players who have taken ‘the jump’ in their 5th-7th seasons and have pumped up their SC average by 10+ points with some even inflating their average by 20 or so. Players like Taylor Adams, Jack Steven, Ryan Griffen, Hanneberry, Callan Ward, and even the likes of Dangerfield and Fyfe blew their previous double digit averages out of the water and went on to being premos or at worst an interesting POD selection for those playing for leagues. AFL footy might just be starting to click for Sheed now.

I haven’t watched West Coast since the GF but I’ll be watching them this week and keeping an eye on Sheed. If he continues to collect the ball like it’s going out of fashion then I’m 100% for bringing in Sheed for Dusty.

  7. Tempting, but he’s only done well since Gaff got suspended. It would be nice to wait and see what happens when Gaff returns, but it will
be too late by then unfortunately

  8. Not yet. Give him another week.

If he backs it up again, then it might be worth thinking about – especially if it lets you offload an expensive, underperforming player and use the money to beef up a weak-spot in your team.

  9. It is only worth trading this week if you have an injury. In that case, it is Sheed vs a comparable alternative pick, and, that choice depends on other factors (such as budget) so it is difficult to simply say ‘yes’ or ‘no’.
