Poll – Ryder On The Storm

Written by Schwarzwalder on March 26 2018

Natopotato88 requested this one in the Polling Station today.  If you want to request a poll, that’s the place to do it………

Patrick Ryder has been ruled out for the next 4-6 weeks with an achilles injury.  Considering the Power also have the Rd10 Bye, you won’t be seeing much of Ryder until after Rd11.  Normally we wouldn’t recommend trading after Rd1, but this is one of those exceptions.  Which ruckmen would make a decent replacement?

  1. Wanted to swap darcy cameron for english on sunday after ryders injury. Was busy and never got around to it.

Considering doing it this week instead. Using english for a filler and then seeing how the options go in round 2. Nic nat the leader for me at the moment

    1. Would expect him to miss. Probably the game at the SCG which is between our two trips to MCG. Sinclair/Towers is a good one to throw Darcy back in there.

  2. People are getting over hyped from Nic Nat based off one score. Yes he was good, but he has openly come out and said he is feeling sore today and will have managed game time until he gets back to full match fitness. Still a massive risk and no guarantee to play each week. You would want to hope you have ruck cover.

  3. 113 points in 55% game time is a good sign but well worth having a back up because I’m sure they’ll rest him for some games. English scored well, hopefully he keeps his spot.

    1. Or it’s a bad sign, he surely will not continue to score that well with such little tog unless he’s actually gotten better since doing his ACL, which is highly unlikely. I see that as unsustainable and it won’t be rectified in the near future. The injury risk throughout the year is all too real and without cover he’s a bad choice.

  4. Wow, people really aren’t loving Nic Nat are they?
He did soo much better than I expected him too. Personally, I thought he was rushed back, without having proper build up back to the afl. He showed why even an underdone Nic Nat, is still in the top 4 ruckman in the game. Given the way West Coast rushed him back, I’d say they’d be playing himas often as they can. Unless he gets injured… i think he’s playing.

    1. I mean when he only plays 55% game time or whatever and scores that well there’s some justification for the hype. The same problems as in preseason still exist though – massive injury list

  5. While im stoked that I picked Nic at literally the last second, I think everyon needs to be realistic. If I had Ryder I’d consider one thing. Am I going for overall or league wins? If you are going for overall then go for the trade this week. If your going for league then it only makes sense to hold for the week. Does it matter if you cop a donut of it means you can see how the rucks go over the next week? If I was picking Ryder it was because he’s a gun Ruckman, a real consistent premium that was under no injury cloud. I picked him knowing he would miss a game, but that’s ok because he’s a gun. If you want like for like you pick from Goldy, Martin or Jacobs. All are durable, all consistent. No way o would pick Nic this week. Whole he was sensational, he played 55% of the game and pulled up sore . He also killed it and tonned up. What happens once the return game hype ends? 55% of a game should be about 50/60 points. By waiting an extra week you have a larger sample size to pick from.

    1. I agree Matteo. The downside is we only have two trades next week and it is possible I will need both for rookies on the bubble.

As much as I would love NicNat, I am thinking Ryder to Martin.

P.S. As much as I would love to grab NicNat bc he is sensational. I thought the same thing about JOM last year. He had a couple of years injured and played well in jlt I think. But he burnt me in the home and away season.

  6. I think Witts is a solid option. However I am mindful of the conditions he played in last weekend. Horrid. It looked like a lake. I assume that lead to throw up after throw up and many more ruck contests than normal.

Did anybody see the game? Thoughts?

  7. Something to keep in mind about NicNat too, is that the last time he played, there was no ‘no 3rd man up rule’. So this time around he gets a clear run at it…

  8. Have made up my mind, and Martin is currently in position to take Ryder’s spot. Since there has been no sighting of Smith i have good confidence with Martin scoring well. Brisbane have a better fixture too and a good midfield to receive the taps. There is also no worry about injury or being rested like NicNat.

NicNat would make me nervous because of injury and then i feel he probably wont get as many hit outs to advantage due to what i see to be a weak midfield as there is no Priddis or Mitchell. He has the chance of being rested which id not what i want as i cant have faith in English playing when NicNat is rested.
