Poll – St. Nick

Written by Schwarzwalder on March 27 2017

The first reports had Nick Riewoldt out for 4-6 weeks.  Those of us that were hoping for a lightning start from St.Nick weren’t left disappointed…….until that knee buckled in the last qtr.  You’d be a brave man to hold onto Riewoldt for 4-6 weeks.  Latest news is that there is no structural damage to the knee which was hyper-extended.  The Saints Doctors are hopeful that Riewoldt might be back in a week or two.  It’s a tough decision.  If you’re making that corrective trade this week, which premium forward are you looking at bringing in?

*Sidenote – JJK scored 180 in Rd1 last year & averaged 95 for the entire season.  Of course, he is a viable option……just don’t expect 140+ every week 😉

If Riewoldt were to miss two weeks, would you trade him out?

  1. 2 weeks, hold… 6 weeks, trade… After 2 weeks, its a real toughie of a call tho. At his age, you would think they’d add a week on every case to maximise his recovery, nay, season?

    1. I think the big issue is iirc last time he had a major issue he was gunshy (and fair enough too) for a fair while after.

Add his age and it makes a trade non negotiable on a 2-6 week range.

If it was 1-2 weeks, or even 2-3… then maybe.

But do you have reliable forward rookies to fill the breach anyway?

      1. WHE was the E, so yeah might be wise to just stick fat with the Roo til next week at least (when cows are easier to ID), or until we know more about his layoff. Cheers for the perspective!

    1. Jamie Cox from the Saints was on SEN this morning saying they’re hopeful he’ll be back running by the end of the week.

  2. Schwarz i question these polls having 3 picks rather than just 1.
It is alright when picking the Community Team , but not individual player replacements IMO.
You cannot replace Riewoldt with 3 players so why 3 choices?

    1. More choice usually results in more of a consensus. With one pick only, you’d probably come up with five options at 15% each. That doesn’t really help anyone looking at their options…..

      1. Also, if 1 pick has a high percentage (80%) and the others have 5% each, and you already own the popular replacement, it doesn’t really help you…

  3. Like Assassins and Grinter suggested above, there’s merit in the downgrade to a mid pricer you may have missed (Nank and Steele stands out) or a rookie (WHE or Houston). Means you’ll have cash for a correctional trade if needed or future upgrades.

    1. I’m gonna pull a downgrade. Dahl, Roughie, Nank and Steele look well and truly capable of holding down F1-4

All going to plan, I could have potentially had 5 keepers in the FWD line already.

Just one this week, bank the cash and see where I can splash it next week.

        1. Gotta give it one more week Chillo! They did lose on the weekend and I’m sure he had lots of jitters.

His price isn’t moving this week, reassess next week.

            1. Aren’t we glad they introduced the reverse trade button! Remember when they didn’t, you’d rage trade Monday morning then sit there in regret for the rest of the week.

    1. I started with both Steele and higgins. They both got 110+ this week.

How are those thumbs down you kept giving throughout the preseason doing now, boys and girls?

    1. Its genuinely a damned shame his career has been affected so much by injury, ey?
Take all the time he had on the sidelines and put that into game time and building skills/experience, and he’d probably be flirting with uber-premium status in both the AFL and SC.
Having said that, I too have strongly considered bringing him in for NRoo… is that so wrong? Could he string 5-10 games together in 2017?

  4. I am a fool.

NRoo -> Shaw via DPP shenanigans.

Why leave money in the bank when I know exactly what I’ll be using it on next week.

    1. Thank you very much for this comment. Made me realise there’s more options available to me than getting a Steele or Nankervis.

Now I just have to decide if it’s worth holding my structure or getting Nankervis in.

    2. I will be doing the same thing, bring in a DEF Premo instead of FWD Premo….

At this stage I am thinking of,
      OUT: NROO & J Smith
      IN: D Butler & T Adams

Both of my trades are LTI / Forced trades…

      Cheers…

      1. I also have to get rid of NRoo & J Smith.
I am thinking of bringing in Heppell & WHE by moving Hibberd to Def.
I think WHE will hold his spot and score above 70 most weeks.
        Good idea?

        1. Hep surprised me.

Hawthorn were abysmally poor though so you cannot use that one game as a forecast return going forward.

  5. Cannot believe we are already talking about trading N Roo.

No ACL, probably some bone bruising, any one remember Buddy going down final against Geelong, Levi Casboult last year I think similar injury.

They were back The Next Week.

Conservative approach from the Saints, but if he can Run no issue no structural damage.

    Hold till further information.

    1. I know. They’re saying he could be back running by the end of the week. I think people might be just using it as a way to get cash and upgrade elsewhere. Which I understand as I have both roo and smith. I think u have to wait this week and reassess next week at least. A week is a long time

    2. Normally I’d agree with you, however the cover offered by our rookies this year is slim at best and nonexistent at worst.

Need to way up the points lost and see if its worth a trade.

  6. TU: Trade for Josh Kennedy, Worry getting 2nd best premium forward

TD: Go for Jack Steele, could be good and is a cheaper option.

Comment: Another player or save the trade, although replacement would be pickett or Taranto.

    1. or, another option (like this reply)

      NRoo -> Hannan
Otten -> Taylor Adams (or can afford any defender (already have laird, shaw and doch))

      2

    1. Sounds reasonable. But if Otten was your worst-performing rookie, you’re doing a lot better than the rest of us!
