    1. Chicken or the egg?

The better your rank the more likely you are to be winning league games.

I guess the main difference is trade strategy. Most of us are trying to save a few trades for league finals.

Someone like Frankie (24th) will be more likely to use his last trades to have a shot at top 10 or even overall victory.

      1. Agree with all that. Although at this stage I am holding my last 4 trades for potential injuries etc. But my biggest worry is that the season will end and I will have avoided injuries and therefore regret not using the trades around this time to improve my weakest players.
But no matter what happens if I still have them for the last 2 rounds they will be used.

    2. Back-to-back cash league champion. Going for the threepeat this year and currently second on the ladder. In the league, amongst others, is MJ, Schwarz, Thommo, Nath, Andy B and Rex. Needless to say its pretty damn competitive.

That’s not REALLY relevant but gee I enjoyed putting it up here.

  1. I Always try to be ranked as high as possible while still wanting to win leagues. In past years I generally end up finishing with an average rank and losing leagues due to lack of trades come finals time when players are rested or injured. Also because I try to get full premo as early as possible my choice in premos isn’t always spot on as early season form doesn’t always continue or I settle for fallen premiums rather than the pricy A graders.

Going ok this year though ranked 24th and hoping to stay high. Haven’t really looked at my league results or ladder all year so not fussed about that. Only got a couple of mates who play and they have already thrown in the towel so makes the whole league thing abit boring.

  2. Bit of both.

Went all out this year and peaked at 274 overall but by that stage was too far back for any sort of cash prize so turned to league focus. I do have a pair of Blundstones to win in LOEC3!

  3. Generally, like to focus on the cash leagues first and then check ranking.
Having my best year for awhile now and being ranked higher and still having trades has kept me interested.

  4. Like joestar I always go into the season planning to win the money league but this year I spent quite a few weeks in the top 1000 and ego took over . Luckily a shocker a couple of weeks ago saw me drop a few hundred spots and I am now refocused on keeping trades to get me through the finals.
$500 may not be $50,000 but it is more attainable.

Good luck Frankie. Great effort so far.

  5. Rank for me. I figure a higher rank will win you a few games. I usually finish top 4 but then run out of trades and lose out in finals when the inevitable carnage happens. This year I’ve kept trades to come home strong in the rankings, so I expect no injuries this year 🙄

  6. It was leagues for me a few years ago when i was new to supercoach but since finishing 87th last year ive turned my attention to wanting to have a good overall ranking since i never usually are in money leagues or anything. Having an average year but ranked around 4,000th at the moment hoping to finish off the season well.

  7. Definitely both. But I think rank means more to me than a league cup. Another thing to add is the amount of times I’ve finished in the top four or even been the best team all year. only to have one, just One off week or an injury or two and get knocked out. I’m sitting on top of all 3 leagues this year and I bet I won’t win anymore than 1 lol

  8. Definitely both – and hoping for another pair of Blundstones – currently on top in the SCT Chicks League and in a 3 way tie for 1st in SCT2. I’m always wanting to improve my overall rank – top 5000 was the goal this year after finishing just a little over that last year and at the moment I’m 3310th with a few trades up my sleeve, which I’m hoping to not have to use this week (Gawn – keep off that bloody ankle!).

  9. Overall ranking. Simply put, I find the idea of beating 200,000 other people to be more satisfying than beating 17 people.

This is not to say that I don’t want to win the leagues I’m in. It’s just not my main priority – I base my decisions around total points, rather than my upcoming match-ups. My philosophy is that if I build the best team that I possibly can, the league wins will follow.

If I was going to focus purely on leagues, I would do so in a draft league, the mechanics of which sound much more interesting than those of salary-cap-based games. This is something I’m keen to try next year.

  10. Being overseas, my main motivation has always been to stay up-to-date with the footy results. Supercoach has always been a great way to stay involved with AFL. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve had an ‘off week’ during League Finals over the years.
For me, playing Supercoach is an enjoyable hobby. Everything else (League win /overall ranking) is a bonus…….

  11. No cash league, my 4th year in AFL SC (NRL tragic here), so tried to crack the top 10,000 for the first time this year (best was probably about 20-25,000)… currently on 9,490, which is pretty nervy.
Went from 56,004 after R2 to an exciting 5,603 after R14, but reality has jumped on my shoulders and I’ve got the one trade left….
Full premo minus Danger (offloaded him to bring in Hurley, Jelwood and a fwd upgrade this week, the SCT folk voted it “just silly” over “ballsy, but silly” – could still pay off..) but have Nank in the fwds, Parsons as the E… considering going Parsons to Yeo to cap the trades off, keep the Ruck backup, and ensure another 50+ points a week! C’MONNN, stay under 10k!
