Poll – Yeo Or No?

Written by Schwarzwalder on April 21 2017

Let me just clear the air straight away……….Yeo is on my ‘Higgins List’.  Now that may seem harsh given he’s only 23 years old, but he’s burnt me twice in the last two seasons and I’ve sworn off him for this year.  Now that that’s out of the way……….

Elliott Yeo has taken all before him in 2017, proving to be a surprise packet in Supercoach terms.  An opening month of 139, 102, 83 & 141 sees Yeo as one of the most sought-after FWDs in the game.  He has had similar patches of form in the past however.  If I may cast your minds back to 2015, Yeo produced a four-week-streak of 119, 91, 146 & 111 before ending the season with an 82 avg from 21 games (including a 40 in the SC Grand Final).  Another patch of form struck in 2016 where Yeo managed a 96, 118, 81 & 102 over a four-week-stretch.  He only crawled to a 75 avg from 19 games last year including a 29 in the SC Grand Final.  A pattern seems to be emerging………..

When injuries set in at the Eagles, Simpson turns to Yeo to ‘plug the gaps’ and gives him a run-with role.  In the immortal words of George W. Bush: ‘Fool me once……shame on…..you?…….Fool me twice………………….you can’t fool me again…..’ 😉  How do you rate Yeo in 2017?  Let us know below…….

Is Elliott Yeo worth another chance in 2017?

  1. Yeo is a very tempting option and i am considering him for my team. To bring him in i would trade out JOM and Taranto and bring in Yeo and a rookie.

My issue is i don’t have enough to bring in a playing rookie. I am left with 115k so is it worth bringing in someone like T.smith who played rd 3 and hope he get named in the future or any other similar rookie.

Or go with Strnadica and swap him to the ruck when Preuss is ready to be downgraded and bring in a FWD rookie.

    Or avoid completely

    1. If he produced the same set of stats but was 4 years older I’d worry this was just a run of luck. Since he is only 23 and he has been playing a lot of matches starting at a young age, I can see it being a real improvement. He is too young to write off.

If I do bring him in, which I am planning to, I am hoping everyone else does not. 🙂

    2. Interesting proposition natopotato, I would advise to go with Strnadica if you hope you keep up with this years elite.

Hughesy Tatters, the elitest of them all

    3. Like you I’m $300 short of trading JOM and Taranto to Yeo and Fisher….so it must be a sign from the Supercoach Gods

  2. Yeo looks to be settled in the half back line with the ability to be strong in one on one battles (ground or air) yet reads the ball well enough to take uncontested intercept marks, seems to be getting quite a few handball receives to utilize his long kick when Hurn isn’t around and is not afraid to take the game on. His role has become similar to Howe’s, if both Yeo and Howe can keep it 80% of the TOG in def half I can see them being top 6 in their respective lines.
I started with Howe, so O’meara to Yeo for me is a risk worth taking.

  3. Yep has moved back to his 2015 role. Looks very settled in defence. I’m bringing him in this week. Let the good times roll…

  4. This week I’m going Roughy to Yeo, and Taranto to Fisher a week early, which leaves me with 120k in the bank. Hopefully with that money, next week I can go either Otten, Marchbank or WHE straight up to a fallen premium.

    1. Sounds tempting, but Roughy at the MCG against WCE with the hawks been copping it all week, I think Roughy will go 90+.

I’m still not completely sold on Yo-Yo, so am happy to wait and pay a little more for a longer run of results.

  5. TU: Roughead to Yeo, with enough in the bank to do Taranto/SPP to Buddy/Fisher next week (if Taranto not named again and SPP doesn’t rip out a tonne).

TD: Roughead to Macrae, not enough in the bank next week to guarantee a reasonable upgrade target.

  6. Ordinarily I would avoid Yeo but there are few good forwards this year so and West Coast’s backline seems more settled than before with Barrass and McGovern.

    Tempted!

    Taranto -> Yeo

    TU. Pull the trigger
TD. Don’t he’ll be the Burn man 2.0
