Progress Scores R2

by Motts on April 2, 2010

How’s the team doing so far this round, Coaches? I’m 3 players in, 224 scored and my captain hasn’t played (3/224/N).

Gibbs just scraped in with a ton but both Mitch Clark and Jarrad Waite were disappointing.

Who’s rocking your world this week? And who’s in the gun for next week?

Waite and Drummond to go along with Brown.

Relton Roberts copping a club suspension at Richmond this week? How stiff do you have to be! Looks like that’s a dead spot on the bench for me the rest of the season…

According to Fox Sports News it’s a one week suspension.

I’d assume it was for being late to training or something minor like that.

Yeah, I’m happy I bought the goose in.

It got me thinking, is there a point, where you would redefine a cash cow to a stayer, who you can rely on for a healthy score?

Any thoughts on this people?

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

Reply

Mike April 2, 2010 at 12:45 pm

It would be unlikely that a rookie/cash-cow could produce consistently good scores, especially the younger ones who might start well but then fade as the season progresses.

Last year I remember using far too many trades early on and ended up keeping Rich for most of the season, which served me pretty well. So if you’re not wasting trades I reckon it’s smarter to cash in on them.

Yeah well that can be different. Someone like Goose who is super cheap will be a pretty consistent performer imo. I still reckon that if you have trades up your sleeve then you should make the profit from him. Who else were you thinking of?

So much for the theory that Brown would start the season slowly. With scores of 130 and 171 he might not be this cheap for a while. I know it might mean 2 trades to get him but is anyone else thinking of picking him up?

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

He is in bloody good form, isn’t he? Fev is taking some of the defensive attention away from him, but, I wonder whether I would lose too much to acquire him. I also wonder, if teams will really start to focus on him and thus let Fev off the leash. This might impact his scores.

Couldn’t agree more. I’m definitely wearing the dunce’s cap after blurting out the “slow starter” theory. Having watched him on Thursday, he looks awfully tempting. My “no early trades unless absolutely necessary” theory could be holding as much water as my other theories – back to the drawing board.

I’m pretty sure the first wave of prices rises/falls will occur as soon as Rnd 3 is complete. Therefore, if you wait until afterward, JB’s price may have jumped a significant amount.

Through my rough calculations, JB just needs 7 points to “break-even”. Anything more than this, and his price is going up up up!

100/1/N – DPP has come to fruition here, moving Hodge to into the guts to replace Cousins which freed up Maguire’s spot in the starting 18.

Probably me just being slack with doing some research, but does anyone know why we had a Partial Lockout for Thursday night footy last weekend and this week we’ve got a full lockout from Thursday?

Luckily I scraped in with naming Farmer emerg. on my backline bench just in case Kennelly doesn’t come up, but if I’d left it to come back to today I’d be spewing!

Don Cottagers April 2, 2010 at 3:56 pm

I’m not 100% but my assumption is that it has to do with the fact that last week there was a Friday night game after a Thursday night start, whereas this time, Good Friday means that the second game of the round does not occur until Collingwood and Melbourne play on Saturday afternoon

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

Reply

Shane April 2, 2010 at 5:53 pm

I’d have thought that would be even more reason to allow for a partial lockout, more time between the Thursday night match and the Saturday match means more time for sides to chop and change.

Can’t find anything on it in the Q&A section. The only thing I can put it down to is the fact that last week was Round 1, giving people that extra opportunity to finalise a side before trade rules kicked in.

But still, if you’re going to do it for one week when we’ve got a Thursday game, you should be consistent with it.

they did it for Round 1 this year because in the past every one was trying to finalize their side and the server went into meltdown and nobody could get to log on, something like that i think.

3. Thought round 2 would be a partial lockout, put brown as captain instead of Ablett [success]
4. Despite injury and price chose Murphy [success]

I was sure Howlett was only going to last until McVeigh returned so left him out – good for him for retaining his spot but……..bugger! Moles in – that might please a few. Kennelly and Malceski still in – Roos, of course, could pull them at the last minute. I wouldn’t be too upset if he just pulls one and I can count Goose’s ton.

Funny? It’s just the ass-backward nature of Collingwood supporters… umpiring decisions generally don’t matter unless they go against them!

Best one I’ve heard from a Collingwood supporter when discussing losing grand finals against the Lions.

“Well you needed two teams to beat us…”

In thread related news…Brent Harvey is the latest player to score in the teens in my forward line… good thing St. Nick decided to have a day out to compensate!

My biggest knock on those 3 Lions flag (and the Swans 1), is that they were gifts from the AFL. Collingwood, Essendon & West Coast were dudded flags by teams with an inflated salary cap.

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

Well in argument I’d say all is fair in love and war when you have to travel to a different end of the country every second week to play the game.

A few extra dollars in the player’s pockets over a couple of home grand finals? I think the playing field is quite level in the Lions case…

West Coast would be the only ones rightfully complaining and they haven’t since 2006 and especially since drafting Naitinui. But I digress…

Blaming the merger? That was the point I was making…

Hey everybody (and happy easter),

I think i may struggle this week to get over 2,000 points. At the moment I have scored: 885/10/N.

I had shocking scores from Jack Ziebell (23 points), Paul Medhurst (46 points) and Mitch Banner (31 points).

Hopefully the remainder of my team will score well. I still have the following players to play:

Backline: Hodge / Enright / Kennelley / Hunt
Midfield: Barlow / Abblett (Captain) / Cooney
Ruck: Sandilands
Forwards: O’Keefe / Higgins / Franklin / Dangerfield

What does everybody think? I would love to get over 2,000 points. My league think that the score I reached was a fluke (cause I bet most of the boys!)

See ya later,
Leesa.

Looking at another 2200+ score this week which is good (: 1045/9/Y so far. almost swapped swan for capt with riewoldt, would’ve been seriously in the money if i did. Hitchcock the only real disappointment, cleaned up with the St.Kilda boys.

Got Hodge, Ladson, Kennelly, Hargrave, Barlow, J Selwood, Martin, Sandilands, Higgins, Murphy, S Johnson, Hal and Tippett to go.

Big one for the Doggies would help!

Still have ablett okeefe hall hodge mitchel cooney martin kennelly tippett and hunt to go. I doubt I’m breaking 2000 this week :(

Tippett & Hille could well be on the block for Kruezer and Seaby/Naitinui at this rate also!

Hille’s last quarter today was more like what he is capable of though…

Hille is going to improve, the only question was how long it was going to take. Maybe, the last quarter is a taste of things to come.

I still think that Tippet will come good, but, how long will it take??

I’d hate to think I was going to miss the bus on Kruezer and with Adelaide seemingly incapable of kicking a score the time appears to be now to make the swap.

I did this with a Petrie/Jolly swap last year and got burned so I’m rather skeptical of making the trade.

Couldn’t hurt… Mckenzie will most likely make you a fair bit of cash on his early performances with the obvious option for a trade down being Barlow if you haven’t already got him.

Brown for Hall would be a prudent move given the Lion’s run of opponents in the next month (includes the Dogs)

I’m with Dazza, thinkin of downgrading a midrange mid (masten or ball) and making the jump from BBB to Browny. Part of me wants to stick with the punt on BBB but it looks like hes actually being used as a decoy at the moment for higgins, murphy, hahn, etc. and drawing defenders away from those blokes

Well if you can live without Brown for another week, even given the fact that the Lions are coming up against an inform Port back line next weekend, you could be taking quite a risk.

Hall vs Gibson II could be the resurgence of Triple B though…

My current score is: 1725/17/N (Gary Abblett).

I think reaching 2,000 points may be in sight, given I have the following to play:

Hodge / Hunt / Enright / Abblett / Frankiln

A question for all of you ~ I have Jack Zeibell in my team, and I was thinking of dropping him for someone like Hayden Ballantyne. What do you all think. Any suggestions.

See ya later,

If you can afford it that probably won’t be a bad trade at all Leesa.

Geelong and St Kilda are Freo’s opponents in the next two weeks however after that it’s Melbourne and the Derby. I’d expect that Ballantyne will avoid all of the close attention from the top sides so it would be a safe trade.

Good Luck with the rest of the round!

Yet again my ruck division scored very poorly: Clark 54, Hille 51

Tippett, Hall and Hille were disappointing. Confident I’ll get over 2100 though. Selwood, Bartel, Mitchell, Enright, Hodge and Chapman to come!

Definitely thinking of trading Gram->Malceski and Tippett->Brown [Which should equate to 50-70points the next round].

I don’t even want to think about it! Shocking! 1409/17/n

I’m already weilding a bloody big axe!

Ball, Wells (yes I know!), Jolly, Pavlich, Harvey, Tippett.

I’m definately bringing in ROK. Always have him in the team, but for reasons best to known to my little finger, is not in this year. Think I will dump Tippet as he isn’t going to go to well while the crows are sucking, and they don’t look likely to improve until their injured players get some game time. And seen as all the rucks except Sandilands are going rubbish, will dump Jolly before the price crash and bring in Jolly’s Sydney replacement. Thoughts?

Made a couple of mistakes with my mid rooks in terms of who I played on the field but also had some woeful efforts (Tippett and Ziebs will definitely be getting looked at this week). Fortunately Rooey, ROK, Barlow and Goddard have kept me competitive. Should crack 2k today with Enright, Selwood, Hunt and Captn Gary to come but I’m not expecting big things out of Hodgey.

I’m certain Boomer’s game was a one-off while Hille will no doubt improve but I fear Tippett will be getting the axe for Kruezer in this week’s trade movements. The second I do that Mott’s look for a 150 effort from him next week!

Yaablett and Hodge to come. I need 223 to beat last weeks score, and that is possible. I reckon I can be satisfied with that. Hope Mottsy is wrong with his Hodgey call and am considering Tippy’s future with the club, maybe a straight swap with Kreuzer is the answer. Would I be correct in assuming that Tippy will need a BIG score this week just to maintain his financial value?

Only 6 players to score over 100 this week. The chasm between the top scores and non performers this wk is huge. Trade time, but way too early to be thinking about offloading Hall, Tippet, Gray etc, just yet anyway. Those with itchy fingers thinking about pulling the trigger on Tippet, he should score well/monster undersized Carlton & Melbourne over the next 2 weeks, plus he’s MPP.

I Plan on cashing out Waite for Malceski and Scully for howlett/shuey, pocket the $230k cash and look to bring in another premium next wk, sit tight on tippet gray hall and waite for malceski to bear fruit.

2288………Can’t even crack top 1000 ( currently 1237 after nearly 2400 last week) Would you believe i left Mitch Farmer on the bench in the midfield…… Goddard and Hodge played in Defence, had Scully – 18, Trengove, etc play midfield…..AND had Waters and Maguire on Defence bench….!!!!! = minus 82..!! ( Maguire 6 better than Hodge, who plays Mid and is 76 better than Scully……..
Mind you, I have done that 2 weeks running….1st week I tossed up..this week, I stuffed up…….
Captain was 7th highest scorer last week….AND 8th – YES eighth highest scorer this week….
You blokes need players, I need a COACH……. might let my wife take over….!!!!
( although I will be getting rid of 2 of Tippett, Hall, Medhurst Trengove and Scully this week)
Well done Leesa…..you go girl…….!!!!!!

I played Banner instead of Martin this round a bad mistake on my behalf. 2288′s a great score though and who would have guessed that Hodge would only get 94 and Maguire 100?

I agree that Tippett must be traded he’s really been a let down.
